Step by Step plan (numbered):

1. Lesson beginning: I will start the lesson by playing a video that reviews the letter R, the
sound it makes, and words that start with the letter R.
2. After the video, I will then write a lowercase r on the zoom virtual whiteboard. I will ask
the students what letter I wrote and they will answer. I will then write an uppercase R on
the virtual whiteboard and ask the students what letter this is and they will answer. Then,
I will ask the students what sound the letter r makes.
3. I will then create a word web with the letter r. I will use the zoom virtual white board to
do this. I will have uppercase and lowercase r in the middle of the web and I will ask
students if they can name words that begin with letter r. Words that the students suggest
will then be recorded on the web. After the web is complete I will save it as a possible
print out for students to take home or have as a classroom resource
4. After the web I will have students do two worksheets.
5. The first worksheet will be a review of the letter r. Together over the projector the class
will follow along as I begin tracing and writing the letter R. Then I will look for the letter
R in a mix of letters and circle them. Then as a class we will look at a variety of pictures
and we will color the ones that begin with R. All of this will be done together but led by
students because I will be asking them questions for the correct answer.
6. The second worksheet will be done independently to see what students are able to do on
their own. They will color in the pictures of the things that start with the letter r.
7. Closing Activities: For a closing activity I will talk to the class about the worksheet they
did independently and ask them to raise their hands and name some of the pictures that
begin with the letter R.

Key Questions (that you will ask):

● What sound does the letter R make?
● What does lowercase r look like?
● What does uppercase R look like?

Key Vocabulary
● The letter R, letter R sound, word web

Logistics:
● Timing:
○ Lesson Beginning: 3 minutes
○ Word Web: 10 minutes
○ Worksheets: 15 minutes
○ Closure: 5 minutes
● Transitions:N/A students stay at desks the entire time
● Classroom Management: To grab students' attention I will use the technique Mrs.
Rickey does. I will say “all set” and the students respond with “you bet.” I will also ask
the students, “put your hands on your head if…” This is used to show that they agree with
what is being said and to show they are paying attention.

Differentiation Notes

● Content: All students will have the same content

● Process: One student will have one of four teachers sitting with him at his desk during
the entire lesson to keep him focused and on task. One other student will need occasional
support and help when working with the letter sounds and figuring out which begin with
R and staying on task. The rest of the students will be fine with support from teachers as
we walk by and check their progress as they work on the worksheets. If a student
struggles to think of a word beginning with Rr or gives an incorrect response we will give
them two options such as Rope or cat to help them. When doing this we will stress the
beginning sound of the two words. If students are struggling to write their letters we will
write the letter for them in yellow highlighter and then have them trace over it.
● Product: All the students' products will look relatively the same as they are completing
worksheets about the letter R and its sounds and will have the guidance of teachers.
