GOOGLE CHROME:

Larry Page and Sergey Brin under the umbrella of Google and it was created in September 1998.

Features:

 Light weight, colorful, peaceful, easily browse facility, contains own task manager, great
bookmark facility...And so on.....
 Google chrome contains its own task manager in that, we can see the options like,
memory, cpu, network..Contains information how much memory the website occupies
and how much the cpu and network usage can be observe.

 Because it is new release the add-ons are not available. May be Google provide the add-
ons later. at presently not available.
 Main advantage of this browser is default searching facility. if type something in the link
bar...the browser automatically shows corresponding searching results. If you type
website address in the link bar if it is available, the browser will find the site and
displays. Otherwise it will search related information and displays like Google search
engine. Just type in the link bar that's it what we have to do.

 Another advantage of it is, we can see the most visited web sites in the tab. new Incognito
mode is a Google Chrome browsing mode where your subsequent web searches are
recorded in your Google Web History. In this case, if you want to make sure your
searches are not stored in your Google Account, you'll need to pause your Google Web
History tracking. Browsing in incognito mode only keeps Google Chrome from storing
information about the websites you've visited.
 Encoding facility, text zoom are also available in this browser. This is super fast browser.

 Searching history facility is available in this wonderful chrome. This option is available
right up corner.
 View source, debug java script, java script console are available with chrome at
developer option. We can observe the download history and the process in the bottom
when downloading something. If the add-ons are released the wonderful browser will
occupy the first place.

 You can find only the back and forward button and refresh button and the address bar
along with the above mentioned two control menus in the entire browser. If you want to
add in the homepage button, you can do so from the customize option available.

Drawbacks:

 Because it is developed in 2008.It is available with beta version as usual. It‘s software
requirement is winxp service pack 2.Google developed this product for windows only.
 For some websites like hub pages…its not supported browser, because many products
download software are developed and supported for existing browser like IE, Mozilla,
opera and so on. it is also available for vista also. It is not available for Linux users
immediately.

 Another disadvantage of Google chrome is its history search box will fetch all types of
data - even text from HTTPS-protected financial sites (dslreports.com and tgdaily.com).
 Like IE and Mozilla and opera there is no menu bar shows file ,edit, tools and so on
rather we can customize in customize Google chrome option.

Drawbacks:

2 E. Commerce. BBA 6 A
[WEB BROWSERS] Zarak Khan

 Use more memory than other browsers.

 Certain websites do not render as expected in Firefox.

 Mozilla Firefox does not provide an MSI package.

 Slow startup.

INTERNET EXPLORER:

Microsoft, August 1995.

Features:

Speed

IE seems to be noticeably faster than old versions, which users will welcome. The actual speed
difference may be in milliseconds, but the faster downloading could help Microsoft win back
some customers.

Updated Content

An RSS feed on your favorites bar will indicate to you any updated content on sites that you
have listed as favorites. This information shows up as a green icon in the upper right hand
corner, which alerts you to this update so that you can access it immediately.

Similar Sites

IE will suggest to you five similar sites to the ones you are currently viewing. This will enable
you to find more information quite easily if the site you are on does not give you enough details.

Integration

Internet Explorer integrates with other Microsoft applications like Outlook Web Access and can
show presence. This is a big plus in company environments where a number of persons are
online at the same time.

Stability

If one window in a tabbed environment crashes, the other tabs do not crash simultaneously, and
this is a big plus point. Internet Explorer has been able to open a window with tabs in their

3 E. Commerce. BBA 6 A
[WEB BROWSERS] Zarak Khan

previous versions as well, but this new ability to contain the crashing of any one site is a new
feature.

Compatibility

IE has become more compliant to web standards than its previous versions. It has a compatibility
button which you can press if sites that have lower web standards do not display properly. This
then enables the browser to open the site in the more compatible, lower version.

Drawbacks:

Similar Sites

Internet Explorer does indicate to you up to five sites that are similar to the one that you have
opened. But, this is restricted to the better known sites which have better page rankings.
However, a user is generally already aware of such sites. This additional list can only be of help
if the sites listed are some of the more unfamiliar ones that are not so frequently visited. This
would broaden the web experience.

Memory Requirements

IE recommends a minimum of between 64 MB and 512 MB of memory. However, this seems

inadequate and is better served with a memory of at least 2 GB. This would mean that home
users and small business users may be forced to go in for costly upgrades if they are not to find
the performance of IE disappointing.

Page Display of Sites

Sites that have still not complied with the latest web standards may not display easily or correctly
in IE. The compatibility button does not easily open all such sites, and you may be forced to wait
for the upgrade of the site itself before you can view it properly.

Microsoft Playing Catch Up

IE really seems like an effort by Microsoft to catch up with other browsers like Firefox but no
real attempt at anything new. So, whether this will help Microsoft retain its market share is
something the market has to decide.

Heavy to Load

Internet Explorer is quite heavy to load, and smaller home users may have to watch their hard
drives before they can decide on an upgrade to IE.

Even with the advent of tabbed browsing, which allows you to keep multiple Web pages open in
the same window, Web multitasking, can be a pain. You have to constantly click back and forth
among tabs if they contain fast-changing material you check often, like the status of your friends
in social-networking services, or updates to news feeds.

OMNIWEB:

The Omni group, 1995.

Features:

 Separate window form editing

Click the square in the upper right corner of multi line form fields to open it in a separate
window. This helps when you wish to add lots of text to an area which is very small and you
want to see all of it at once. This feature also allows you to enter tab characters.

 Workspaces

Groups of web browser windows and tabs in them. A user can have multiple workspaces for
different web research topics and quickly switch between them with a key shortcut or menu
choice.

 View Links:

By clicking on this button in the toolbar, one can quickly view all the links contained in the
page.

 Ad blocking:

Omni Web uses a powerful pattern match ad blocking feature to stop images from loading
from servers matching the pattern. It is also possible to block images that don't originate from
the current server you are browsing and to block images that match common advertisement
sizes.

7 E. Commerce. BBA 6 A
[WEB BROWSERS] Zarak Khan

 Shortcuts

allows one to type a key word or phrase to open a certain web site or begin a specific web
search.

 Site preferences

Omni Web allows you to specify preferences that apply to specific websites. For example, if
you adjust the font size on a given web page, the adjusted font size will be used on all other
pages of the same site. Preferences are saved automatically and retained between browsing
sessions.

Drawbacks:

 Slow.

 User interface mistakes.

 Page Display of Sites.

 Heavy to Load.
 Large memory Requirements.
 Updated Content.
 Bad security.

 Tabbed browsing.

SAFARI:

Apple Inc., January 2003

Features:

Improved Web Inspector

A good web inspector is extremely important to most web developers. Many people still
prefer Firebug, which is an extension for Firefox, but the Web kit inspector has improved
dramatically in the last few years.

8 E. Commerce. BBA 6 A
[WEB BROWSERS] Zarak Khan

CSS Inspector
In Safari 5, the web inspector has an improved CSS inspector panel, which lets you jump directly
to a rule definition in the source file.

DOM Inspector
The DOM inspector is much improved, now allowing you to add attributes to DOM nodes in
your document, remove nodes, and edit nodes as HTML, which lets you edit the entire tag as if it
was a source file
.
Resource Panel
The Resources panel is also improved, letting you see all HTTP redirects, along with full header
information, including the HTTP status code.

JavaScript Inspector
The JavaScript inspector now lets you disable all breakpoints with a single click, and if you
hover over an element while on a breakpoint, you can see the actual object values of what you
are hovering over. This will be extremely useful for debugging purposes.

Timeline Panel
Safari 5 now has a new Timeline Panel, which provides information about everything that the
browser is doing while you browse. This includes loading data, parsing it, laying it out on screen,
and rendering it. Very cool for working on the performance of your website or application.

Audits Panel
Another added panel is the Audits panel, which much like the popular YSlow and Google Page
Speed extensions for Firebug suggests ways for you to improve the performance and
compatibility of your site.

Console
The last change to the Web Inspector is that a separate panel for the JavaScript console has been
created. This is nice because it allows the console to take up the entire height of the Web
Inspector rather that the small part that it used to. It is still available in the old location, however,
for convenient access while looking at another panel. For more information about the updates to
the web Inspector, check out this post on the Web kit blog.

Drawbacks:

 High Memory usage.

 Slow startup.

9 E. Commerce. BBA 6 A
[WEB BROWSERS] Zarak Khan

 No add ons.

 No download notification.

 No Phishing protection.

CAMINO:

The Camino Project, November 2010.

Features:

Tab Overview.
Phishing & Malware Protection
Tabbed Browsing Improvements.
Download Notifications.
Annoyance Blocking.
Keychain Support.
AppleScript Support.
Spell-checking.
Feed Detection.
Session Saving.

Drawbacks:

 No Add ons.

 User interface mistakes.

 Memory Requirements.
 Use more memory than other browsers.

 Slow startup time.

SWIFTFOX:

Jason Halme, 2010.

Properties:

Binary code optimization

The Swiftfox executable has been compiled with the highest level of compiler optimization,
rather than optimization for binary size. The compiler supports various flags that will perform
different optimization levels during the compilation process. Firefox is compiled with -Os flag
10 E. Commerce. BBA 6 A
[WEB BROWSERS] Zarak Khan

(which enables only the optimizations that don't increase code size and also a few optimizations
designed to reduce code size), while Swiftfox is compiled with -O3 flag, which basically turns
on all available optimizations. Binaries incorporate additional instruction sets supported by and
also optimization specific to the microprocessor architecture. Moreover, Swiftfox has been
compiled with a newer version of the compiler program (GCC v 4.0.4), while Firefox uses v
3.3.2.

Increased security
Swiftfox offers better protection against buffer overflow attacks as a result of using
-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 while compilation. Firefox has been compiled with an older version
of GCC, which doesn't support this.

Removed or disabled feature

Pango is not included, allowing Unicode fonts to remain supported, but without certain extra
features provided by it. Pango is an open source computing library for rendering
internationalized texts in high quality, integrated into GTK+ 2. Moreover, Ipv6 DNS lookups are
disabled.

Changed default preferences values

HTTP pipelining is enabled by default. This is a technique in which multiple HTTP requests are
written out to a single socket without waiting for the corresponding responses but unfortunately,
it's only supported in HTTP/1.1, not in HTTP/1.0. The pipelining of requests results in dramatic
improvement in page loading times, especially over high latency connections such as a satellite
or wireless Internet connection. However, this preference can be enabled in Firefox 2.0 or one
can use an extension called Fastefox, which provides a GUI to adjust these settings

Drawbacks:

 Data URIs are not separately cached from their containing documents (e.g. CSS or
HTML files) so data is downloaded every time the containing documents are re
downloaded.
 Content must be re-encoded and re-embedded every time a change is made.
 Data is included as a simple stream, and many processing environments (such as web
browsers) may not support using containers (such as multipart/alternative or
message/rfc822) to provide greater complexity such as metadata, data compression, or
content negotiation.
 Base64-encoded data URIs are 1/3 larger in size than their binary equivalent. (However,
this overhead is reduced to 2-3% if the HTTP server compresses the response using
gzip[citation needed]).
 Data URIs make it more difficult for security software to filter content.

OPERA:

Opera software ASA

Features:

 One set of third-party speed tests concluded that Opera 9.5 was indeed faster than
Internet Explorer 7 and prerelease versions of Firefox 3 and Safari 3.Technology website
ZDNet's speed tests in early 2008 showed that out of Internet Explorer 7, Safari 3, and
pre-release versions of Firefox 3 and Opera 9.5, Opera was the fastest in some areas, but
the only browser that Opera clearly outperformed was Internet Explorer. However, as of
version 10.5, Opera features a new JavaScript engine, as well as a new vector graphics
library, which together significantly increase Opera's overall rendering speed.

 Opera includes built-in tabbed browsing, ad blocking, fraud protection, a download

manager and BitTorrent client, a search bar, and a web feed aggregator. Opera also
comes with an e-mail client called Opera Mail and an IRC chat client built in.

 Opera includes a "Speed Dial" feature, which allows the user to add up to 25 links (or
more, by editing the speeddial.ini file) shown in thumbnail form in a page displayed
when a new tab is opened. Thumbnails of the linked pages are automatically generated
and used for visual recognition on the Speed Dial page or can be modified using Opera
Image Dial Generator. Once set up, this feature allows the user to more easily navigate to
the selected web pages.

 Opera supports Opera Widgets, small web applications that start from within Opera.
Alongside Widgets, "User JavaScript" may be used to add custom JavaScript to web
pages. Greasemonkey support is limited, and there is no interface to manage scripts or
toggle 'Greasemonkey-on' functionality.

 Opera is extensible in a third way via plug-ins, relatively small programs that add specific
functions to the browser, and as of Opera 11, third-party extensions. However, Opera
limits what plug-ins can do.

Drawbacks:

 No page progress bar

 isn't supported by all sites and that includes Google Mail

 Not as customizable as Firefox...but maybe that's better for beginners

12 E. Commerce. BBA 6 A
[WEB BROWSERS] Zarak Khan

 Initial load up is very slow.
