Reflective Essay
Over the course of this semester, my writing style has changed and improved. I struggled
many times throughout the duration of this course. There was the mild snowstorm that left most
without power and water, and so we had to cram two weeks’ worth of assignments into one. I
overcame and was able to submit essays and assignments I believe to be some of my best
writing. I struggled with getting assignments in on time, I learned how to adapt to my professor’s
writing expectations, and I wrote multi-paragraph essays with minimal difficulties. All these
One of the main and disappointing aspects of this course is how much work is due per
week. In the first week, we had around 11 assignments we had to turn in by next week. Although
each assignment was relatively easy, it caused me to stress and miss a couple of the assignments.
The workload did not let up until we neared the very end of the semester. However, between the
first week to the last week I have missed a total of 5 easy assignments I could have turned in
because of tight due dates and the amount of my workload. I do blame myself also because if I
had managed my time better or did something to decrease my stress, I would have been able to
decrease the number of missing assignments I have now, as well as gotten the grade I wanted.
The way I was able to improve this semester was learning how to adapt to my professor’s
requirements and writing expectations. I feel like this is one of the best skills to have when going
off to a University. Learning how to adapt your writing to the way your professor wants will
ensure you get the highest grade possible and take what you learned from them to improve your
writing even further. At first, I was confused and a little upset that I had to change the way I
wrote and added quotes but realized this was helping me. I was able to learn a new way to insert
quotes that I like much better than the previous way I did it. Being told to change my writing
style to the way my professor wants will help me in the long run.
A very important skill I learned while in this class was how to effectively write a multi-
paragraph essay. Along with many others in my class, I was filled with dread when seeing the
Rhetorical Analysis Essay and the Casual Proposal Essay. I had no idea how I was going to do
the essay to the best of my ability, even with a prompt. That dread disappeared when I learned
that we were not going to do the essay all at once but break the paragraphs into sections and
complete them individually. I found that this really helped me to write an excellent essay with
little to no mistakes in them. I also liked how my group peers reviewed them for any mistakes I
may have missed. All these things allowed me to be able to write a multi-paragraph essay with
little issues.
I am proud of all the improvements and skills I learned throughout the duration of this
course. I learned important techniques that will take me even farther as I continue my education.
I am also grateful for the struggles I encountered this semester because it has helped me learn
methods to overcome them. I am sure I will be using each and everything I have learned this
