Script in ICT 11 On Setting Up Computer Networks LO1

The document is a script for a radio-based instruction lesson on setting up computer networks. The lesson teaches learners about different types of network cables like UTP, STP, coaxial, and fiber optic cables. It discusses cable installation guides and wiring standards. As an assignment, learners are asked to illustrate and share wiring diagrams for straight-through and crossover cables. The lesson aims to help learners understand concepts and principles for setting up computer networks.

3 TEACHER : Good day, Dear Learners! How are you today?

4 I hope that all of you are having a great and safe day.

5 Welcome to the second installment of the ICT CSS – Grade

6 11 Radio-based Instruction on Setting-up Computer

7 Networks: Install Network Cables! I am Teacher Elmer of

8 Bonfal National High School, your teacher in Computer

9 Systems Servicing. This lesson was made into script by Mrs.

1 Milagros A. Fernandez also from Bonfal National High

0 School.

1 This radio-based instruction was designed to provide you

1 with the source of information that will enable you to acquire

1 the knowledge and skills independently at your own pace or

2 with minimum supervision or help from your teacher. Before

1 we proceed with our lesson, let me just remind you about a

3 few things.

1 Indeed, learning in the new normal is still possible if we

4 follow proper health protocols, like making a Habit in

1 washing your hands thoroughly, Apply alcohol, Practice

5 social distancing, Protect yourself by wearing face masks and

1 face shields and You have to be vigilant at all times. So, my

6 dear learners, let us conquer viruses.

1 Are you now ready for our second lesson in ICT-CSS on

7 Installing Network Cables?

1
After this radio-based instruction, you are expected to: 1.
8
Plan and determine cable routes in accordance with network
1
design and actual installation site; 2. Identify and obtain
9 TEACHER
necessary network materials in accordance with established
2
procedures and check against system requirements; 3. Install
0
network cables and cable raceways in accordance with
1
established procedures and installation requirements and
2
perform installation works, 4. Follow OHS standards and 5S
3
principles according to enterprise requirements, and, 5.
4
Dispose excess components and materials based on WEEE
5
directives and 3Rs waste management program.
6
Learners, shall we proceed? If you answered yes, then let us
7
proceed with our lesson.
8
Cable is the medium through which information usually
9
moves from one network device to another. There are several
1
types of cable which are commonly used with LANs. In
0
some cases, a network will utilize only one type of cable,
1
other networks will use a variety of cable types. The type of
1
cable chosen for a network is related to the network's
1
topology, protocol, and size. Examples of network media:
2

1 1. Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Cable

3 2. Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) Cable 3.Coaxial Cable

1 4. Fiber Optic Cable 5. Wireless LANs

4 Let us identify each network media. Number 1. Unshielded

1 Twisted Pair (UTP) cable. It is the least expensive and most

5 popular network media. The standard connector for

1 unshielded twisted pair cabling is an RJ-45 connector. This is

6 TEACHER a plastic connector that looks like a large telephone-style.

1 The illustrations can be seen in your module Core

8 Competency #2 entitled “Set-up Computer Networks”.

1 Number 2. Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) Cable - UTP cable

9 may be susceptible to radio and electrical frequency

2 interference (it should not be too close to electric motors,

0 fluorescent lights, etc.). If you must place cable in

2 environments with lots of potential interference, or place

1 cable in extremely sensitive environments that may be

2 susceptible to the electrical current in the UTP, shielded

2 twisted pair may be the solution. Shielded cables help to

2 extend the maximum distance of the cables.

3 3. Coaxial Cable - Coaxial cabling has a single copper

2 conductor at its center. A plastic layer provides insulation

4 between the center conductor and a braided metal shield.

2 The metal shield helps to block any outside interference from

5 fluorescent lights, motors, and other computers. This cable is

2 commonly used by television industries. 4. Fiber Optic

6 Cable- Fiber optic cabling consists of a center glass core

1 surrounded by several layers of protective materials. It

2 transmits light rather than electronic signals eliminating the

3 problem of electrical interference. This makes it ideal for

4 certain environments that contain a large amount of electrical

5 interference. 5. Wireless LANs -More and more networks are

6 operating without cables, in the wireless mode. Wireless

7 TEACHER LANs use high frequency radio signals, infrared light beams,

8 or lasers to communicate between the workstations, servers,

9 or hubs. Each workstation and file server on a wireless

1 network has some sort of transceiver/antenna to send and

0 receive the data. Wireless networks are great for allowing

1 laptop computers, portable devices, or remote computers to

1 connect to the LAN.

1 Now, let us learn about CABLE INSTALLATION GUIDES

2 There are two most common network cable:

1 1. Straight through cable – Connected from PC to

3 switch/hub 2. Crossover cable – Connected from Pc to PC

1 (limited to two computers only)

4 Now, what is RJ45? RJ stands for Registered Jacks. These

1 are used in telephone and data jack wiring registered with

5 FCC. RJ-11 is a 6-position, 4-conductor jack used in

1 telephone wiring, and RJ-45 is a 8-position, 8-conductor jack

6 used in 10BaseT and 100BaseT Ethernet wiring.

1 There are two Wiring Standards for RJ45

7 1. T568A and, 2. T568B

1 Now my dear learners, what do you think is the importance

8 of what we just learned today? In what other subjects can you

1 apply what you have learned today? For those who said that

9 this is applicable to all subjects, you are correct!

2 As your assignment, I want you to illustrate or draw the RJ45

0 Wiring guides for Straight Through cable, and Crossover

2 TEACHER cable. Post this on Facebook and place the hashtag

1 LO1Assignment1 for me to identify your assignment right

2 away. For those without steady internet connection, simply

2 draw and picture your output and send it to my messenger.

2 And that’s it dear learners. We have just finished learning

3 about the concepts on Installing Network Cables. Do not

2 forget to become a responsible digital citizen by following

4 health protocols. Once again, I am Teacher Elmer, your on-

2 the-air teacher in ICT CSS only here at DepEd On Air Aha

5 Bestkaya! Stay safe everyone! Good bye!
