Module Descriptor*

This management accounting module introduces students to management accounting and


control systems which are needed for the effective functioning of an organization. Prior to
undertaking this module, students are required to have basic management accounting
knowledge, i.e. Introduction to Management Accounting.

The design of management control systems involves a strong understanding of the


underlying strategy of an organization and effective performance measurement systems
so as to establish effective control systems. Student progress is assessed via mid-term
exam, student led tutorials, case study report and a final exam.

2. Learning Outcomes*

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:

1. Identify and decipher the link between strategy, planning and control systems.
2. Identify and utilize suitable performance analysis methods through appropriate
variances.
3. Analyze the role of performance measures.
4. Evaluate different methods of transfer pricing and pricing decisions.
5. Analyse the role of inventory management.

In this module, you will be encouraged and facilitated to develop the ability and desire to:

• Acquire the skills required to learn, and to continue through life to learn, from a
variety of sources and experiences;
• Adapt acquired knowledge to new situations;
• Think and reason logically and creatively;

This is the same textbook prescribed for ACC1010 Introduction to Management Accounting.
(AY2019/20 Trimester 2). A copy can be purchased from Booklink Pte Ltd. There are also
a few copies of the textbook held in SIT’s library for reference.

Lecture notes: Soft copies of lecture notes will be made available on the Learning
Management System (LMS) one week before each lecture. It is the responsibility of the
students to print the lecture materials.

future. For ACC2008, the resources in Connect are not assessable in the module. Instead,
students are encouraged to utilize Connect at their own discretion to enhance their
learning experience. Please refer to LMS on the details of how to register for Connect, if
you have intention to use it for self-study purposes. Connect can be purchased together
with the prescribed textbook.

Group Assignment – Case study


Students are required to prepare a group case study
report. Each group should consist of a maximum of 5
students. Peer feedback and assessment are rquired to
allow all group members to provide comments and 30 Jul 2021,
assessment on all group members towards the 20% 5pm
allocated group task. (week 12)

Pass Requirements

A “C” grade or above is considered as ‘Pass’ and an “F” grade is considered as “Fail”.
Students with grades “D” or “E” will be given the option to repeat the module but the
maximum GPA for the repeated attempt will be capped at 2.0. Successful completion of
the academic module is also based on fulfilment of any other requirement(s) set by the
module coordinator and programme director.

Marks are final after ratification by the Board of Examiners.

Do note that the criteria for acceptable standing in any given trimester is maintaining a
minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0. Refer to the SIT Academic
Guide for further details.

Late Submission

The following applies in this module:

Assignments:
Late submissions for assignment, without penalties, require a written application to be
submitted prior to the submission deadline. If the right for a late submission was not
granted, late submission will then be accepted until 4 days after the original deadline, with
a penalty of 15% per day. Later than 4 days after the original deadline, no marks will be
awarded to late submissions.
