Model For Effective Instruction Miner

The document describes a lesson plan using a cooperative learning model to teach 12th grade students creative writing. Students will work in small groups to design imaginary worlds and illustrate them with details. They will watch two videos on worldbuilding and use worksheets to collaboratively develop a setting for their stories. Each group will then present their world's key features to the class, sharing ideas that other groups may want to incorporate into their own worlds. The reflection notes that cooperative learning allows students to combine creative ideas but may lead to distraction or conflicts if too many ideas are generated. Some students may also benefit from different worldbuilding instructional methods.

Model of Effective Instruction:

Model of Instruction: Cooperative Learning- in this model students are working with each
other, usually in small groups, to learn and complete assignments. This usually works when
students in the group are facing each other, as to interact with each other. Students will also have
shared resources and assignments, as it makes it easier for them to cooperate. This can lead to
students having higher achievements from help from others, having higher self-esteem from
working with others, and can gain leadership skills as well.

1. Standards: one subject standard selected from Nevada Core Curriculum Standards for the
subject and grade level selected.

English- Creative Writing. Grade- 12th. Standard- Write narratives to develop real or
imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-
structured events sequences.

2. Observable objectives: write 1-2 observable objective written using Bloom’s Revised
Taxonomy verbs.

Students will be able to design their own worlds with groups. Students will be able to illustrate
their worlds with various details.

3. Instruction-learning process: Write a detailed instructional outline of the teaching and

learning process following the instructional model selected.

• Do First: Having students write in their journal to explain what about world building they
like the most. Is it the places, time period, settings? Students will work together in their
groups and talk about which tools they like the most. (10 minutes, 5 writing and 5
discussing).
• WorldBuilding- How to start video. (14 minutes).
• WorldBuilding- 3 basic design tips. (17 minutes).
• Work with groups as they work on the world building worksheets, as they build the world
they want to work on and write about. Students will have to work with one another on the
place that they are going to center the story about. Students will work on this design for about
a week. (10 minutes).
• Students will be able to create events during their imagined place to create conflict within
their story. This will lead to creating a story out of many authors/students and be able to be
presented when the story is done.
• Exit slip: Students will go up as a group and explain their world to the class. This will
include a few key factors and a few interesting factors that is not as important as the key
factors. (9 minutes.)

4. Resources: In APA format list all resources used.

5. Reflection: Evaluate the effectiveness of your Instructional Model assignment.

During this lesson, 12th grade students in the creative writing English class will learn how
to create their own world setting and place in order to create their stories. During this lesson, the
model of cooperative learning will be used. As students will be in small groups of 3 to 4 and
working together. The students will rely on each other’s creative minds in order to bring a
fantasy world to life. Students will watch two videos in order to gain an understanding of what
ideas and what problems need to be figured out. Afterwards, students will work within their
teams in order to create a world where their story will come to live. Students will then afterwards
explain to the class what they can up with, as they could have ideas that the other teams may
want to use in their worlds.
Students will be able to work together in order to create their worlds, which will give
them different creative and unique ideas. However, too many ideas can lead the students off-
track or fighting amongst each other for their ideas to be used. Students may also wish to have
different types of methods used to learn about the world building process.
