m11 Lesson Idea
Set a goal that you want to achieve with this plan for learning with the use of multi-media tools? Will you
use your video as a sample of what students will design or will you use the video for meaningful learning
about a topic? Be sure to mention what tool you/your students will use
I used my video as an intro into the moon phases topic. I used iMovie specifically because by the end of the
unit, they will be creating a video of the different moons every night. In the video, I ask the students to look at
the moon tonight and draw it to talk about it in class. This is because in this unit, the students will keep a
moon log. Then at the end, the students will share their moon log using iMovie telling about the moon
phases.

☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.
☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) iMovie supports all students because they can as creative and as basic as
they would like to be. They can talk over their pictures, they can video themselves, or they can have words on
the screen. This gives the students with a small voice, a big voice.

MultiMedia Tools: Video
thinking levels by having them demonstrate this. I can use a flashlight, a pencil and a foam ball and allow the
students to work with partners to see when the different moon phases occur. I will conclude the lesson by
showing the different videos. The students will love to see themselves on video, and this is something they
will have worked hard on. I will give feedback after their video is shown, verbally.
Importance of technology: Technology is important because it causes the students to explore and strengthen
their skills. Other technology that the students will use is a camera, microphone and they will play with video
editing tools.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: When students are looking up information about moon phases, they
could run into some ads. When they are viewing my video, they could run into ads. However, to prevent this, I
am going to teach digital citizenship. This is something I will have already taught but would like to go over and
over and over again because of the importance. To alleviate fear in my parents, I am going to send them a
video of me explaining everything their child is going to be doing. I will do this for multiple projects to keep
my parents my loop and so that when a student needs help with something they can either help them or
know where to look for further information.
Reflective Practice: I think this lesson plan is fun and interactive. I think it takes learning the moon phases to a
new level. I do however think that when I implement this in a real classroom, I will have a series of videos. I
would probably do it as an investigation to find the answer to the problem I had in the video. I told the
students I had a problem; I couldn’t find the moon. In the future, I will probably not answer this problem as
quickly as I did. I will create an investigation. Then I will go into the moon phase log and how I want them to
look at their findings. I want them to grow the skill of investigating further when they have a problem. I also
want them to be able to explain their findings. I think this lesson plan is a great start to this.
