Electromagnetism Worksheet

The document discusses electromagnetism and contains two main sections. The first section calculates the attractive force between two parallel wires carrying opposite currents using the formula provided. The second section defines Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, Lenz's law, and the difference between magnetic flux density and magnetic flux. It then provides an example calculating the magnetic flux and induced emf in a coil placed in a uniform magnetic field.

Electromagnetism

1. Two wires carrying current two long parallel wires, both of length l,
separated by a distance, r, carrying currents, I1 and I2 , in opposite directions

a) Show that the force between the two wires is given by

b) State whether this force is attractive or repulsive.

2. a) State Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction

b) State Lenz’s Law.

c) Distinguish between 'magnetic flux density' and 'magnetic flux'.

d) A flat coil of wire consists of 500 circular loops of radius 2.0 cm. It is placed
between the poles of a large electromagnet so that the plane of the coil is
perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field of 0.15 T.

i. Calculate the magnetic flux through each turn of the coil.

ii. Determine the e.m.f through the coils
