Rewrite the sentences in reported speech.

 
1. Dad said, ‘I’ll give you £50 for trainers.’ Dad said he would give me £50 for trainers. 
1. Mum said, ‘I am very tired tonight.’ Mum said that she was very tired 
 
2. Paul told me, ‘I am looking my dog.’ Paul told me that he was looking his dog 
 
3. Maurice told her, ‘I have never tried sushi.’ Maurice told that she had 
 
4. Al said, ‘I’ve been trying to call you for hours.’ Al said that he had been trying to call me
for hours 
 
5. They said, ‘We’ll be back here in half an hour.’ They said that they would back here in
half an hour 
Rewrite the questions in reported speech. 
1. He asked me, ‘do you like grapes?’ He asked me if I liked grapes. 
1. She asked us, ‘What language are you speaking? She asked us , what languages
did we speaking 
2. Dad asked me, ‘Will you help me? Dad asked me , if I would help him 
3. He asked me, ‘What time do you have class?’ He asked me, what time did I have
class?’ 
4. I asked him, ‘Have you seen the new car yet?’ I asked him, if he had seen the
new car yet? 
5. He asked me, ‘How often do you eat sweets?’ He asked me, how often did I eat
sweets?’ 
 
Complete the sentences with a reporting verb. 
1. He warned me not to go into the basement. 
1.  She reminded me that our homework was due the next day. 
2. They accused me of cheating! 
3. They admitted breaking the window. 
4. We apologised for arriving so late. 
5. She denied having seen anyone enter the bank. 
6. The coach ordered us to run faster. 
Rewrite the sentences using the words in brackets. Use between two and five words 
1. He said that he would lend me a pencil. (will) -  He said, ‘ I will lend you a pencil.’ 
1. She said, ‘I’m sorry I left early.’ (apologised)  
She apologised for learning early. 
2 He said he hadn’t eaten the cake. (claimed)  
He claimed that he hadnt eaten the cake.  
3 ‘I did it!’, he said. (admitted)  
He admitted that he did it. 
4 They warned me not to drink the water. (not) 
They said, ‘Dont drink the water.’ 
5 ‘Will you be there tonight?’, she asked him. (he)  
She asked him if he would be there that night.
