SAK2 Memory Analog Board

The SAK2 memory analog board serves several important functions for the computer control system. It provides battery-backed RAM for communication between processor boards, generates the bus clock, monitors voltage levels, processes analog inputs, and provides a serial interface. The SAK2 acquires analog input signals, stores the data, and exchanges it with the control computer. It also facilitates communication between the control computer and servo drives via its serial interface.

SAK2 Memory analog board

SAK2, design
The memory analog board SAK2 is in
the computer plug-in unit REE.

Fig. 1 Memory analog board SAK2

SAK2, task
The memory analog board SAK2 has
several tasks. These are:
 It provides a battery-backed
RAM (write/read memory) for
the communication between the
two processor boards in the board
slots REK1 and REK2. Thanks to
the battery back-up, preset
parameters (e.g. specific job data)
are not lost in the case of a
voltage drop or when the press is
shut down.
 It generates the bus clock for the
entire control system.

 It generates the signal /PFAIL2

which reports when the supply
voltage for the electronic
components which perform
control functions is too high or
too low.
 It processes the signals from the
16 analog inputs and transmits
them to the processor board in
board slot REK2.
 It provides the serial interface for
the communication with, for
instance, the servo-drives.

SAK2, function
The memory analog board SAK2 is
equipped with a battery-backed write
and read memory (RAM). The data
stored in this RAM will not be lost
when the press is shut down (e.g.
totalizer reading, variant code,
presettings).
Via another memory (dual-port
RAM) the processor boards REK1
and REK2 communicate with each
other. The SAK2 generates the clock
signal for the processor boards in the
board slots REK1 and REK2. Only
when this clock signal is present can
the processor boards communicate
with each other.
Apart from this, the SAK2 processes
the signals from 16 analog inputs.
This analog section and a serial
interface are controlled by a
processor. After the initialization, the
processor board REK2 transmits the
program for this processor to the
SAK2 memory.

SAK2, interfaces
Parallel interfaces
In the initialization phase, the
processor board REK2 transmits the
program code to the SAK2. Apart
from initialization and test routines,
the program code contains modules
for the handling of the 16 analog
inputs and the serial interface and for
the transmission of data to the control
computer (REK2).
In its main program, the processor of
the SAK2 constantly acquires the
signals from the analog inputs and
stores the acquired data in a memory.
Thus this data is available to the
control computer (REK2).
Apart from this, data is exchanged at
defined intervals between the SAK2
and the control computer by which
they check each other's correct
functioning.

SAK2, basic initialization

After a software exchange or the
exchange of one or several processor
boards, a basic initialization must be
carried out on the SAK2. This is
achieved by short-circuiting the two
pins (Fig. 2 /1) for approx. 20
seconds.
Note
If you want to know how to
carry out the basic
initialization, please refer to
the chapter describing the
exchange of the processor
boards REK1 / REK2.

Fig. 2 Basic initialization on the SAK2

Serial interface
The SAK2 has a serial interface
which is operated by a special
interface IC. By means of this
interface, the SAK2 links the servo-
drives and the control computer. Via
the memory of the SAK2 the control
computer passes current parameters
to the servo-drives (via the servo-
drive control board SSK or SSK2). In
the opposite direction and via the
same route, the positions of the
precision potentiometers (pull lay) are
returned to the control computer.
SAK2, inputs and outputs
The inputs and outputs of the SAK2
can be divided into two groups:
 analog inputs,
 digital inputs and outputs.
Analog inputs
These inputs are 16 signal inputs and
8 differential inputs which are
grouped together to blocks of 8
signals each. The division into blocks
corresponds to different function
areas whose signals are evaluated
separately.
The 8 differential inputs monitor the
correct functioning of the power
supply units which supply the voltage
to the electronic boards.
Digital inputs and outputs
The digital signals are input signals
and bidirectional bus signals as well
as control inputs and outputs of the
memory analog board SAK2.

SAK2, exchange
Caution - observe the
protective measures for
ESDs!

Incorrect handling may

damage the electronic boards.

1. Select the display "Totalizer" and
write down the totalizer reading
(Σtot).
Button sequence: "Entire press",
"Actual value", "Paper run",
"Totalizer".
2. Select the display "Variant code".
Button sequence: "Entire press",
"Service1", "Variant code".
3. Select the displays 1 to 3 with the
left-hand +/- buttons and write
Fig. 4 Display "Totalizer" down the variant code.

4. Write down the powder
timing, i.e. the beginning of
powdering (if available).
Button sequence: "Service",
"Delivery".
5. Write down the grease
lubrication interval for the
delivery chains (lubrication
cycle 1).
Button sequence: "Service",
"Lubrication".
6. At the CPC1-04 console, store
Fig. 6 Display "Powder timing"
the job data on the job
memory card.
7. Set the press to straight
printing and maximum sheet
size.
8. Select the O.S. as pull side.
9. Bring the feeder and delivery
piles to their lowest positions.
10. Switch OFF the press and
make sure no-one can turn the
power back on.
Caution - with CP2000 the
power supply can only be
cut off at the control station

On presses with CP2000, only

cut off the supply voltage via
the button "Switch off the
press" (service display) on the
touch screen.
Fig. 7 Display "Lubrication" 11. Actuate an "emergency stop"
and lock it.
12. Exchange the SAK2.
13. Turn ON the main switch.
Leave the "emergency stop"
in its locked position.
Note
To switch presses with
CP2000 on again, first turn
the main switch to the
position "0" and then to the
position "1".

14. Compare the totalizer reading

and variant code with your
notes. If you lost the variant
code, reenter it.
15. Switch OFF the press (on
presses with CP2000 only
via the touch screen) and
release the "emergency stop".
16. Turn ON the main switch (on
presses with CP2000 first to
"0" and then to "1").
17. Enter the grease lubrication
interval for the delivery
chains.
18. Set the beginning of
powdering (powder timing) as
per your notes.
19. If the press is equipped with
Autoregister (CPC42), the
initialization of CPC42 must
be checked at the CPC1-04
console. If necessary, carry
out a re-initialization at the
CPC1-04 console.
Safety check

All the press equipment which

ensures the safety of the press
operator and of the press itself
must be checked afterwards!
Record the implementation of the
safety checks on the time record
sheet and have the customer sign the
sheet to confirm that the checks have
been carried out correctly.
