Using Online Communication Platforms to Connect Parents to the Classroom

Introduction

In an age where collaboration between parents and teachers are more important than ever

in the academic success of students, it is vital that parents are in the loop of what their children

are doing in the classroom. With the rise of technology and internet, many options have been

created to allow parents a sneak peak into the academic world of their children. For elementary

school children, it is easy for students to forget to tell parents important dates and events.

Similarly, teachers may struggle to effectively relay messages to busy parents. With so many

options, what are the best online communication platforms for teachers to connect to the parents

of their students?

Body 1

Remind 101 is a program that I remember my teachers using in high school. Remind 101

has three ways to communicate to parents and students – they can send messages to them

through their designated app, email, or text messaging. It is not only useful for primary classes,

but also extra-curricular activities like sports or book club. Another useful feature of Remind 101

is that both parents and students have the ability to directly message the instructor in the event of

questions or concerns.

Body 2

Class Dojo is an extremely common tool for modern-day early childhood educators. Much like

Remind 101, Class Dojo allows communication between parents, students, and teachers.

However, Class Dojo has many features that Remind 101 simply does not have. For example,

Class Dojo has a feature that automatically translates messages between languages. This is

extremely useful for families that are not native English speakers! If a teacher needs to video

chat with their students and their families, they can easily connect Google Meet, a video

streaming program, to hold a meeting or conference. Not only is Class Dojo a good form of

communication for reminders and dates, it also allows teachers to create assignments and

families to submit them.

Closing

In the new age of technology, many teachers can utilize new communication programs in

order to effectively share information with parents. It may be difficult for educators to navigate

so many choices, but some are much better than others. Remind 101 has a plethora of

communication options, so it’ll be difficult for any important message to be lost. Similarly, Class

Dojo has many options to communicate and so many other features like auto-translations and the

ability to connect Google Meet for the sake of simplicity. An educator may absolutely use a

variety of these online communication platforms, but it may be better to find an age-appropriate

and all-encompassing platform in order to not confuse parents on where to go for vital

information. For early childhood education, I absolutely recommend Class Dojo while Remind

101 is a great resource for middle and high school education.
