PROPERTIES SEGMENT ANGLES TRIANGLES

REFLEXIVE AB ≌ AB ∠A≌∠A ∆ ABC ≌ ∆ ABC

AB ≌ CD ∠ A≌ ∠ B ∆ABC ≌ ∆ DEF
SYMMETRIC
then CD ≌ AB then ∠ B≌ ∠ A then ∆ DEF ≌ ∆ ABC

AB ≌ CD and CD ≌ EF ∠ A ≌ ∠ B and ∠ B ≌ ∠ C ∆ ABC ≌ ∆ DEF and ∆ DEF ≌ ∆ MNP

TRANSITIVE then AB ≌ EF then ∠ A ≌ ∠ C then ∆ ABC ≌ ∆ MNP

OBS : Algebra : reflexive properties x = x

Symmetric properties x = y then y = x
Transitive properties x = y and y=z then x = z or x +y = z and z= w + t then x + y= w + t
CHAPTER 4 ANGLES
Definitions
1. An angle is that union of two rays having a common endpoint.
The rays are called the sides of the angle and the common endpoint is called vertex
2. Two angles are adjacent if they have a common side and disjoint interiors.
3. Two angles are vertical ( vertically opposite ) if their sides form two pairs of opposite rays.
4. The interior of an angle is the set of all points interior of this angle.
Postulate 8. Protractor Postulate
 To every non-zero angle there corresponds exactly one positive number less than or equal to 180
 If O is any point of line AB and H is a half -plane of edge AB , then to every positive number between 0 and
180 there corresponds exactly one ray
 The measure of a straight angle is 180
Postulate 9 . Angle Addition Postulate
If D is interior to ∠BAC , then m∠BAC= m∠BAD + m∠DAC
Type of Angles : right, acute , obtuse, straight angle
Pairs of angles : complementary ( complements of each other ) if the sum of their measures is 90 and supplementary
( supplements of each other if the sum of their measures is 180
Congruent angles : two angles are congruent if they have equal measures
Bisector of an angle : an interior ray that cut in half the measure of that angles .
Theorem 4.5 if ray M is a bisector of ∠BAC , then m ∠BAM = ½ m ∠BAC
CHAPTER 5
Two types of classifications of triangles
 Classifications of triangles by side: scalene , isosceles , equilateral
 Classifications of triangles by angles
 Acute triangle: all angles are acute
 Obtuse triangle : one of the angle is obtuse
 Right triangle: one of the angle is right
 Equiangular : all three angles are congruent
 In a right triangle , the side opposite the right angle is called the hypotenuse ; the other two sides are called legs
 In an isosceles triangle, the congruent sides are called legs and the third side is called the base of triangle.
 In an isosceles triangle the angle opposite to the base is called the vertex of the triangle and the other two angles are called its
base angles
 Two triangles are congruent if there is a correspondence between vertices of the two triangles that their corresponding sides
and angles are congruent

Theorem 5.2 Isosceles triangles theorem - The base angles of an isosceles triangle are congruent
Theorem 5.3 Converse of the isosceles triangle Theorem – If two angles of a triangle are congruent, then the side opposite to tjhese
angles are congruent and the triangle is isosceles.
 An equilateral triangle is equiangular , an equiangular triangle is equilateral.
