INVITATION OF APPLICATIONS FOR 2021/2022 ADMISSIONS

BSc (NURSING AND MIDWIFERY) AND BSc (ICT) PROGRAMMES

A. ABOUT DAEYANG UNIVERSITY

Daeyang University is a Christian University founded by the Miracle for Africa Foundation
(MAF), registered and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The
campus is located within the complex of Daeyang Luke Hospital in Kanengo, Lilongwe. It is
off the M1 Kasungu/Kamuzu International Airport road behind Malawi Institute of
Management (MIM). It started with the establishment of Daeyang College of Nursing in 2010
and Daeyang College of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in 2014. Both
programmes are registered and accredited by NCHE.

The University believes in biblical principles and values and these are reflected in its teaching
and training process. Therefore, students are required to apply the same in their learning
process. Its graduates are expected to demonstrate professionalism and desire to live a God-
centered life. Throughout their lives, graduates will have a heart to love all people from all
nations, a desire to live imitating Jesus Christ as servant-leaders, and a passion to work for
the Kingdom of God.

B. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSIONS

The University is now receiving applications from interested candidates to enrol for the
Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery Programme (BScNM) and Bachelor of Science in
Information and Communication Technology (BScICT) as detailed in the table below.

Bachelor of Science Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent with: 4 year
(Nursing and Midwifery)  At least six credits which should include English, Physical
Science, Biology and Mathematics and any other two subjects
 An aggregate of not more than 30 points in the best six subjects
obtained in not more than 2 sittings;
(September 2021 intake)  Candidates should be aged between 16-45 years at the time of
application;
 Female candidates are encouraged to apply.

Bachelor of Science Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent with:

WEEKEND PROGRAMME
Bachelor of Science Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent with at 3/4 years
in Information and least six credits which should include English, Mathematics and

Those with computing certificates from recognized institutions
( August 2021 intake) will have an added advantage and may be considered for entry
into Year Two of the programme.

and Communication aggregate of not more than 36 points in the best six subjects
Technology obtained in not more than 2 sittings. At least 4 credits that
should include English, Mathematics and any other two science
(August 2021 intake) related subjects. Those with computing certificates from
recognized institutions will have an added advantage and may be
considered for entry into Year Two of the programme.

Bridging Programme This is applicable to those applicants with Malawi School 6 Weeks
(Entry Route into Certificate of Education or its equivalent with an aggregate of not
Diploma/Degree in ICT more than 36 points in the best six subjects obtained in not more

and Communication Technology (ICT) BUT they have a pass in
either English or Mathematics or both.

Interpretation of IGCSE Grades:

The following is the interpretation of IGCSE results for admission purposes: A*= 1; A = 2; B = 3; C = 5; D = 7;
EFG = 8.
Note:
 Candidates who failed to satisfy the admission criteria in one year but successfully improved their grades
after re-sitting a maximum of four subjects in the other year, may use their supplementary statements
for purposes of accumulating credits.

 Candidates cannot combine grades from two independent certificates for purposes of accumulating
credits.

C. FEES
Tuition fees:
o Nursing: K590,000 per Semester
o ICT: K480, 000 per Semester
Administrative & registration fee : K60,000 per Academic Year
Students’ Council fee : K5,000 per Academic Year
Medical fee : K21,600 per calendar year
Meals : K45,000.00 per month for 3 meals per day
Library and Internet user fee : K10, 000.00 per Academic year
Accommodation : K25,000 per month (Only few places are
available and offered on first come first serve basis.
Successful students will be required to apply for
accommodation. Students who will not get space on
campus will be required to make their own
accommodation arrangement outside campus)

The fees are subject to revision at any time. The above fees do not include costs for other
requirements such as personal lap top computers, uniform during practical placements,
protective wear for laboratory sessions and other programme-specific requirements.
Therefore, candidates should prepare for these additional costs. Detailed will be provided to
the successful candidates at a later stage.

D. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applications should be sent by post, courier or delivered by hand at Daeyang University.


Applications sent by e-mail or by fax will NOT be accepted.

Applicants must include the following information in their applications:

a) name, date of birth and sex;


b) contact telephone numbers and for the parents/guardians/sponsor(s);
c) e-mail address(es);
d) disclose any form of disability;
e) religious affiliation and statement about motivation or willingness to abide by the
Christian values of the University;
f) name of previous school;
g) year when the Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations or
examinations for the equivalent certificate was obtained;
h) examination number;
i) list of subjects written and the grades obtained in each subject;
j) proof of ability to pay fees by attaching a letter from a parent/guardian/sponsor
confirming sponsorship;

k) attach a certified copy of the academic qualification or notification of results or letter
of results signed by the head teacher, bearing a school date stamp.
l) Applicants must indicate clearly the programme and intake they are applying for in
case of ICT.

Alternatively, applicants may fill in an application form which can be obtained from the
University Campus or downloaded from the website www.dyuni.ac.mw. The application form
can also be requested via the following e-mail: [email protected].

A complete application package with the above information should be sent or delivered with
evidence that you have deposited a non-refundable admission application fee of K15,000.00
Applications submitted without attaching a bank deposit slip for the admission application
fee will be disqualified.

E. INTERVIEWS

Applicants for all programmes will be required to undergo oral interviews. For BSc Nursing
and Midwifery programme, candidates will also be given a written exercise.

The date for the interviews will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates at a later stage.

Candidates will meet their own costs for transport, meals and accommodation. Candidates
shall also be required to bring writing materials.
