Aqualamp User Manual

The Aqua Lamp is an LED lantern powered by a magnesium fuel cell. To operate it, the user adds salt water to the fuel cell chamber, which causes a magnesium power bar to generate electricity and power the LED for around 100 hours. When the bar is spent, it can be replaced and more salt water added to reuse the lantern. The residual salt water and magnesium materials are non-toxic and environmentally friendly.

Thank you for purchasing the Aqua Lamp!

- an amazing LED lantern that does not use batteries, liquid

fuel, electricity or sunlight. Just add water and salt to produce over 100 hours of light! Regular table
salt and tap water is all you need or you can use straight seawater (without the added salt).

Aqua Lamp is powered by a Magnesium Fuel Cell and includes a pre-installed magnesium power bar
that when immersed in salt water, creates electricity. At about 100 hours (you can stop and start the
process anytime) the magnesium bar dissolves, stopping power generation. To reuse, simply replace
the used bar with a new one and add more salt water! The magnesium power bar and residual salt
water is safe, non-toxic and Earth friendly.

OPERATION

1. Magnesium Power Bar

The lantern comes pre-installed with a replaceable
magnesium power bar (Fig. 3). If a new power bar
is required, first empty the chamber of any salt
water by following step 3, Fig. 6 and 7 shown on
the opposite page.
Remove the old bar by turning the knob counter
clockwise to loosen and remove.
Insert a new power bar into the Drainage Port and
turn clockwise until snug.
Do not overtighten. MAGNESIUM POWER BAR Fig.3

NOTE
Before opening the Drainage Port, make sure there is no residual salt water in inside. If residual
water exists, first position the lantern horizontally with the Power Bar Knob facing up before remov-
ing so the water does not spill out. (Step 3, Fig.6 and 7).
OPERATION
2. Adding Salt and Water

(A) Remove the Feeder Portal Lid and Base Cap from the lantern.
Pour (2) scoops of salt (equal to 2 teaspoons / 10ml) into the
Feeder Portal using the included Salt Measuring Spoon (Fig. 4).
Small grain, common table salt works best. Do not use “Lite
Salt”.

(B) Using the Base Cap as a measuring device, pour 1-1/2 capfuls
of water (equal to 6 oz. / 180ml) into the Feeder Portal, ensuring
that all of the salt is washed down the funnel (Fig. 5).
Replace the Feeder Portal Lid and Base Cap, ensuring they are
properly threaded and snug. “Swirl” the lantern several times to
mix the salt water in the Fuel Cell Chamber.

(C) Press the On/Off button on the front of the lantern to turn on the
LED light. Fig.4

NOTE - USE OF SALT & WATER

Use only the specified amount of salt and water. Too much or too little will impair optimal perfor-
mance. Small grain table salt works best but larger grain salt can be used if ground to a finer grain
so it washes down the funnel. Break up any “caked” salt before pouring in the Feeder Portal. Tap
and drinking water are preferred but lake or stream water will work provided visible impurities are
removed. The cleaner the water, the better the performance.
If using Seawater, do not include additional salt as in Step 2. (A ) above.

3. On/O f f Power Generation

The On/Off button controls the LED light but does not stop
the power generation in the Fuel Cell Chamber. To stop this
and re-start at a later time, you must remove the salt water.
To do this:
(A) Position the lantern horizontally with the Power Bar Knob
facing up (Fig. 6). This will prevent water spillage when
removing the power bar. Turn the power bar knob counter Fig.6
clockwise to loosen. Remove the power bar and set aside.

(B) Rotate the lantern so the Drainage Port faces down (Fig.7)
and allow the water to completely drain. Using fresh water,
thoroughly rinse the inside of the lantern several times to
remove all residual salt water.
Allow the lantern and power bar to dry, then re-install the
power bar and store for future use. Fig.7
IMPORTANT OPERATIONAL INFORMATION - PLEASE READ
1. Maintaining Optimal Operational Performance
(A) With a new power bar installed, you can run the light consistently for about 100 hours before
needing to replace the bar as long as you change the salt water about every 24 hours.
Follow the same cleaning instructions as Step 3 (A & B). Add fresh water and salt and re-install
the power bar to continue using the light. Remember - even though the light is switched off,
power is still being generated and the power bar is slowly dissolving.

(B) When not using the light, it is best to remove the salt water following Step 3 (A & B). Allow the
power bar to dry before replacing and storing for future use.

(C) Clean after each use and before storing following Step 3 (B). If salt water is left in the Fuel Cell
Chamber more than one week without replacement, power and light may continue to generate
but the salt water and magnesium solution will solidify and could damage the lantern. If this
occurs, rinse thoroughly and agitate but do not use any implements to remove the solids. This
could damage the Fuel Cell Chamber.

(D) Wipe away any salt water and dissolved magnesium solution that may come in contact with
metal or painted surfaces.

! CAUTION
The residual salt water is non-toxic but drinking it may cause diarrhea. If accidentally
swallowed, dilute by drinking plenty of fluids. Keep away from children. Do not expose
magnesium bar to an open flame.
