Activity 2
a. Write a myth related to physical education that they have heard in their locality and put its
counteracting fact. (Note: Do not copy the myths stated in the notes.)
• Myth: Students with Disabilities Cannot Participate in Extracurricular Athletics
• Fact: All schools are required to allow any child who is eligible to try out for after school
teams/sports (http://www.ed.gov/ocr/letters/ colleague-201301-504.pdf). Students with
disabilities must have “equal opportunity to or to reach the same level of achievement, in
the most integrated setting appropriate to the person’s need”.

b. Essay:

Create a reflection related to the discussed topic using the following questions: (Will provide google
form for this, just have draft the answer for the meantime.

- Do you think you already acquired the physical and health literacy? If yes, state a scenario or
an example which applies about it; if no, explain your answer and write what you need to do to
become physical and health literate.
➢ Yes.
We have our own level of literacy which affects us wholly. Prior to my knowledge, I already
acquired physical and health literacy but somehow not all was being applied. Though there are
people who are knowledgeable towards the possible outcomes yet still neglecting the
circumstances that may happen. Moreover, health is wealth. Indeed, it is essential to maintain
our good physique and not just rely on self-diagnoses because it is better to have a proper
knowledge rather than guessing upon it. Furthermore, health literacy plays a key role on the
overall health and wellbeing. Thus, it is suggested that promoting health literacy will make a
healthy community, and it should be considered as a primary public health goal. As health
literacy is defined as “The degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and
understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health
decisions”. Meanwhile, "Physical literacy is the foundation of physical education, it is not a
programme but an outcome of any structured physical education provision, which is achieved
more readily if learners encounter a range of age and stage appropriate opportunities."

- How physical and health education affects you as a person?

A sound mind is in a sound body in a sound environment. Physical and
health education affects us in multiple aspects. By all means of physical activities,
it helps us to attain and maintain physical fitness which contributes to our
productivity and efficiency. Meanwhile, it develops our mental alertness and
qualities such as perseverance, team spirit, leadership and obedience. Moreover,
it leaves positive impact to our totality as an individual which reflects on how we
live our life.
With physical and health education, it encouraged us to work as a team or
as individuals with a mind bearing the good thinking skills. Furthermore, it will help
us to stimulate our lifestyle by having a proper knowledge on how to be fit and
obtain proper growth.
Therefore, physical and health education affect us mentally, socially,
physically, emotionally. Thus, when you are healthy physically then your mind will
work well and active as your body will become productive. It will contribute in
creating a harmonious relationship to others. When you have positive thinking, you
won’t be easily affected emotionally because it is how you set your mind.

- Why physical and health education important?

A healthy mind leads to a healthy physique. An active being can lead a
healthy community to a healthier society and a better country. Promoting ones
physical and health education is like a compass to every child. It emphasizes the
holistic growth of ones physical, social emotional and mental development. Thus,
it primarily equipped learners with appropriate knowledge, skills, capacities, values
and enthusiasm which bring human to a healthy living.
Basically, without P.E and Health, learners would not be able to again
physical and mental growth. They would not be called as physical and health
literate. They would not discover their skills and potentials they possessed.
Apparently, they would not be called as fully equipped. For education system is
incomplete without P.E and Health. Where is the justice when you’re good
academically yet lack of physical and health progression? There will be imbalance
exactly. P.E and Health teaches us to become a well-rounded person. As the
government invested on us, so therefore, we are expected to return the favor by
the time comes.
All over, P.E and Health came to existence to produce students that are
physically, emotionally, socially and mentally oriented and positively developed
self-esteem and self-confidence. Thus, it can be integrated in different subjects as
well as in different levels.
