Parañaque: A Walk Through Art and Time
Parañaque: A Walk Through Art and Time
“A love for art is the fond for creation with a story. The imaginative and creative execution of a
story through art makes an artist distinctive”
Art has always been a part of our lives, dating back to the dawn of time. People have been
making, viewing, criticizing, and loving art for thousands of years. As time passes by, art
evolved into many forms and was categorized depending on its distinctive characteristics among
the others. One type of art is Contemporary Art. Contemporary art is the art today, produced in
the second half of the 20th Century or in the 21st Century. Artists for this type of art toil in a
globally influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world. Due to this, artists
and arts arose locally and internationally. The Philippines, as one of the countries that strive to
conserve the culture and the arts, showcase world-class art forms. To support this, one of the
cities that exhibit extraordinary artwork is the Parañaque where famous art galleries operate
constantly.
Parañaque has known for its outstanding art galleries, Kulay-Diwa Gallery of Philippine
Contemporary Art, Artists Gallery, and Ang Kayamanag Asya Ink are the example of these.
Artists from different corners of Parañaque gather in these galleries to exhibit their creations.
Each gallery differs from the other. To support this, let’s define each three. Kulay-Diwa Gallery
of Philippine Contemporary Art is a privately owned venue for artistic expression. It is
strategically located within a cluster of progressive communities South of Manila. It has an
independent exhibition area able to accommodate large-scale works, and a spacious garden ideal
for outdoor programs, performances, and sculpture installations. Kulay-Diwa Gallery of
Philippine Contemporary Art has the goal to discover and promote the works of talented, young,
and deserving Filipino Artist; To serve as a cultural outpost and make the arts more accessible to
the fast-growing communities South of Manila; and to foster cultural interaction and exchanges
with the local regions, Southeast Asia and other countries. Meanwhile, Artist Gallery formerly
called Artists Haven is an enchanting place that’s been around since the early ’80s. It is a two-
story art gallery and cafe that was once the home of owner Cynthia Jamlang and her daughter
Gel. The art gallery will welcome its guest with its creative interiors starting with the salmon-
colored walls, curved entryways, and rounded corners that encourage gallery visitors and diners
to roam around, sip a glass of wine or coffee, and be inspired by art itself. Cynthia and her
daughter Gel, who is also a visual artist in the US, personally designed the space. One section
features geometric tiles softened by floral accents and contemporary artworks by Gel and other
artists like Raul Isidro, Efraim Samson, Tinee Nuyda, Roger San Miguel, and painter/printmaker
Fil Dela Cruz. And also, Artists Gallery offers workshops for all ages and sizes. There are 8
module sessions with lessons in basic and advanced drawing, rendering in pencil, oil pastel,
acrylic painting, portfolio-making, and more. Staying in theme is their menu as well, see if you
recognize any or all of the artists and paintings the dishes were named after. And lastly is the
Ang Kayamanag Asya Ink. Ang Kayamanang Asya Ink is a newly formed Philippine corporation
dedicated to bringing to the public the very best of Philippine art, antiques, and collectibles as
well as those of our Asian neighbors. They showcase different artworks from across Asian
countries to promote diversified art traditions. One of the artworks that are showcased in this
gallery is the skillfully crafted sculpture of seated monks in lacquered and gilded wood wearing a
bejeweled robe. Some statues are believed to invite good chi and positive energy into the
household. Mandalay style from Myanmar/Burma.
It is indisputable that Contemporary art has emerged in the lives of many through the
years. From the well-known galleries here in Parañaque, art never stops to evolved and impress
the crowd. From these art galleries, people can see how alive and rich the culture and the art of
the place. It tells story how time aged the creations so fine. It is like the person’s travelling
through time while appreciating the beauty of an artwork. Therefore, art has submerged into
different forms and extend through time and space. As Michaelangelo’s saying goes, “If people
only knew how hard I work to gain my mastery. It wouldn't seem so wonderful at all.”
