This document discusses using sawdust as a partial replacement for fine aggregate and used engine oil as an admixture in hollow concrete blocks. Sawdust is a waste product from the timber industry that causes land pollution, so using it in concrete could provide ecological benefits. Previous research found that replacing fine aggregate with materials like plastic, corn cob, and quarry dust in concrete blocks is acceptable. However, increasing the sawdust content may reduce workability and compressive strength. Adding used engine oil as an admixture could help maintain workability and strength by reducing the water content needed. Therefore, partially replacing fine aggregate with sawdust and adding used engine oil has the potential to lower the cost of producing hollow concrete blocks while providing environmental

shop. It is possible to decompose, but it produces contamination during decomposition.
hence, The re-
use of used Engine Oil in a concrete composition is an alternative way to reduce its quantity. The use of Waste Engine Oil in concrete composition showed an improvement in consistency , setting time and workability. Slump values and compaction factor values are improved due to used Engine Oil, which ensures that greater workability can be observed during casting and placement of concrete. The compressive strength of used Engine Oil Concrete decreases marginally with an increase in the content of used Engine Oil [9]. This research will investigate the use of sawdust as a partial replacement for fine aggregate and used engine oil as an admixture. This includes the determination of the chemical and physical composition of the Sawdust, the assessment of compressive strength, density, water absorption and fire resistance. 1.2 Statement of Problem Hollow concrete block is the primary material most commonly used in the construction of walls. Recently, in Ethiopia different concrete blocks have been introduced in the low-cost housing project. The various materials used for the manufacture of HCBs includes cement, fine aggregates, coarse aggregates, water and mixtures. From these materials, the aggregate is up to 70 percent. The fine aggregate is one of the primary contents of the development of hollow concrete blocks. Scarcity of fine aggregate due to lack of nearby source, expensiveness, scarcity of resources and restriction due to environmental concerns make the development of hollow concrete blocks look for an acceptable alternative to fine aggregates. .From the researches conducted so far plastic pet, corn cob , quarry dust , tyre rubber and sawdust have been tested for alternative replacement of fine aggregate. Due to the large growth of the timber industry in Ethiopia, a huge amount of wood waste has been extracted. This waste is an industrial by-product and is characterized by its very fine particles and disposed in the form of landfills which cause an enormous amount of land pollution. To address this issue, an appropriate usage of Sawdust as an alternative material by partially replacing a fine aggregate would be introduced. so that it would bring 3 ecological benefit and minimizes the economic background. However increasing the amount of saw dust in the replacing mix reduces the dosage of fine aggregate, it may affect the workability and compressive strength property of the concrete. Therefore using of an admixture with sawdust will be an acceptiable option. The used engine oil can be used as admixture to preserve workability and compressive strength by reducing the water content in the mix. Therefore partial replacing of fine aggregate with saw dust and used engine oil helps the hollow concrete block industry by reducing the cost of production.
