I. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Daily Routines
1.1 Prayer
1.2 Greetings
1.3 Attendance
1.4 Reminders
2. Priming
2.1 Motivation
The teacher will read a short story entitled “A Fishing Trip”
A Fishing Trip
Liza was going fishing with her brother. Mother gave them a big lunch because
they would be gone all day. First, they put their things in the car. Then they went to
Bagasbas Beach. Liza caught three fishes. She showed them to her mother when she
got home. Mother cooked all of Liza's fish for dinner.
After reading the story, The students will put the sentences in order using numbers.
__Liza caught three fishes.
__First, they put their things in the car.
__Mother cooked all of Liza's fish for dinner.
__Liza was going fishing with her brother.
__Then they went to Bagasbas Beach
B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
The teacher will ask the students to:
a. Complete the last two dice
2. Analysis
a. What have you observed?
b. Is there any pattern?
c.. Let the students define sequence and give examples of patterns/sequences they
have encountered in their lives.
3. Abstraction
Pattern is a set of numbers or objects in which all the members are related with each
other with specific rule.
A Sequence is a finite/infinite list of terms (or numbers) arranged in a definite order,
that is, there is a rule by which each term after the first may be found.
Each number or element in a sequence is called a term.
A sequence is a function whose domain is the finite set {1,2,3,…,n}
or the infinite {1,2,3,…}.
On the given examples
a. {5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50}
- numbers from 1-50 which are all divisible by 5
b. .{3,6,9,12,15,18…}
- numbers which are divisible by 3
c. Set of all negative integers less than -20
Answer:{-21,-22,-23,-24,-25,..}
d.Give a Set of all positive integers divisible by 3 but not by 5 from 1-20.
Answer: {3,6,9,12,18}
Guide Question:
Which one is a finite sequence? An infinite sequence?
From the given activity let the student differentiate finite and infinite sequence.
Finite Sequence is an arithmetic sequence with finite elements in the domain.
Infinite Sequence is an arithmetic sequence with infinite elements in the domain.
4. Application
A. “What’s Next”
Each item below shows a pattern.
1. What is the next color?
blue,red,yellow, white,red,yellow,white, blue,yellow,_____
Answer: white
2. Find the next term in each sequence
a. 5,11,17,__ Answer:23
b. 1,4,9,16,25,__ Answer:36
c. 3,6,9,__ Answer:12
3. Find the next term on the given sequences and their 7th number?
a.0,4,8,12,16,___,___ answer: a. 20,24
b.1, 4, 9,16,___,___.___ answer: b.25,49
A gardener buys a plant that is 12cm in height. Each week after that, the plant
grows 10cm. What will be the height of the plant at the beginning of the 1st,
2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th weeks, if it follows the same pattern?
( The teacher will ask the students to describe in words the pattern they used to find the next
term.)
