Cep Lcs f20 Updated

This document outlines a complex engineering problem (CEP) for designing a speed control system for a DC motor. The objective is to design a system that can accurately measure and maintain the motor's speed between 0-11.4 rpm with 10% or less oscillation, despite unpredictable loads. Two assessment milestones are outlined: 1) Analyzing the uncompensated system's performance in a unity feedback loop by January 18th, and 2) Designing a MATLAB controller to meet the speed requirements by January 25th. The CEP requires in-depth engineering knowledge of control and circuit theory, and involves identifying the motor model and designing a suitable control law to address the conflicting technical issues. A 4-page final report is due by

Complex Engineering Problem

CEP Statement
Speed control of a motor/generator is a specially designed control system to
achieve required rpm or frequency under unpredictable load. Large scale models
are currently being used in industries and research institutes for a wide range of
purposes. Scaled down models are also being used in educational institutes for
learning and research purposes. The object of this project is to design a speed
control of a DC motor small in size but capable of measuring instantaneous rpm of
motor and maintain the speed of motor as desired by user. A DC motor capable of
producing rpm up to 11.4 rpm (1.195 rad/sec) and with the ability to control rpm of
motor within 2 sec with the accuracy of 10% oscillations. The project is to accurately
measure the rpm, and control the speed of shaft.
