Leonora Orosa-Goquinco
A girl that inclined ballet and other dances. And known for having courage in
breaking traditions in dance despite of public indifference. A founder of Filipinesca
Dance Company in the year 1958. Leonora Orosa-Goquinco also known as Cristina
Luna. Born on the 24th day of July, 1917 in Jolo, Sulu. A daughter of Sixth Orosa
and Sevedna Luna. Became a mother of three with her husband Benjamin
Goquinco.
After graduated valedictorian in high school at the early age of 17, she started
her major dance experiments in the year 1934. And graduated as summa cum laude
at St. Scholastica's College with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education. And
took some graduate courses in music abroad. She produced a numerous dance in
her time such as; Dance Panorama, The Elements (the first ballet choreographed by
a Filipino), and the first folkloric ballet (Trend: Return to the Native). She became a
ballet trainee under Lilia Lopez, Epifania Rodriguez, and Luva Adameit. And took
some professional and teacher courses at the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo.
Her passion, love and dedication to dance open a lot of opportunities for her.
A dancer, choreographer and also an author of history of Philippine dance. Leads
her to achieved different and numerous awards national and international. And
proclaimed as a National artist in Dance in the year 1976.
