The document is a final exam for an engineering dynamics module, consisting of 8 questions testing concepts related to kinematics and dynamics. Question 1 has 4 parts asking students to determine angular velocities and accelerations of links in a stone-crushing mechanism. Question 2 asks students to determine the time and distance for an airplane to decelerate from 70 m/s to 5 m/s based on a given deceleration graph. Question 3 asks students to determine the speed and furthest landing point of a kicked ball. The remaining questions cover topics such as acceleration calculations, pulley systems, spring forces, and mass accelerations. An equation sheet is provided at the end to assist with calculations.

QUESTION 2: [20 Marks Total]

An airplane traveling at 70 m/s lands on a straight runway and has a deceleration described by
Figure 2. Determine:

a) Determine the time t' and the distance traveled for it to reach a speed of 5 m/s. [10 Marks]
b) Construct the v-t and s-t graphs for this time interval, 0 ≤ t ≤ t'. [10 Marks]

QUESTION 3: [20 Marks Total]

As shown in Figure 3, the ball is kicked from point A with the initial velocity vA = 10
m/s. Determine:

a) The speed when the ball strikes the ground. [10 Marks Total]

b) The furthest point where the ball will land. [10 Marks Total]

QUESTION 4: [20 Marks Total]

The car is traveling along the road with a speed of v = (300/s) m/s, where s is in meters.
Determine the magnitude of its acceleration when t = 3s if t = 0 at s = 0.

QUESTION 5: [20 Marks Total]
As shown in Figure 5, at the instant shown, cars A and B travel at speeds of 73.13 m/s
and
22.35 m/s, respectively. If B is decreasing its speed at 0.1738 m/s 2 while A is increasing its speed
at 0.099 m/s2, determine the acceleration of B with respect to A. Car B moves along a curve
having
a radius of curvature of 1126.54 m.

QUESTION 6: [20 Marks Total]

A pulley system is shown in Figure 6. Determine the speed and acceleration of crate B if A
2
moves downward with a speed of vB = 2 m/s and acceleration equal to AA=6 m/s .

QUESTION 7: [20 Marks Total]

As shown in Figure 7, The 2 kg mass collar C fits loosely on the smooth shaft. If the spring is
unstretched when s = 0 and the collar is given a velocity of 15 m/s, determine the velocity of the
collar when s = 1.5 m. Use second Newton’s law approach.

QUESTION 8: [20 Marks Total]
As shown in figure 8, when s = 0.6 m, the spring is unstretched and the 10 kg mass block has a
speed of 5 m/s down the smooth plane. Determine the distance s when the block stops.
