AIM: Design and simulate magic tee using CST.
THEORY:
An E-H Plane Tee junction is formed by attaching two simple waveguides one parallel and
the other series, to a rectangular waveguide which already has two ports. This is also called
as Magic Tee, or Hybrid or 3dB coupler.
The arms of rectangular waveguides make two ports called collinear ports i.e., Port 1 and
Port 2, while the Port 3 is called as H-Arm or Sum port or Parallel port. Port 4 is calledas
E-Arm or Difference port or Series port.
The cross-sectional details of Magic Tee can be understood by the following figure.

7. In the Modelling tab, Shapes section, select Brick. Press Esc key to show dialog box In
the dialog box shown, set the following values for the Collinear Waveguide In the
Material drop-down menu, Load material from library, then select Copper
(annealed).
8. Repeat the Step 7 with following dimensions for the inner surface.

In the Navigation Tree, click on outer1 in the components section In the Modelling
tab, Tools section, click on Boolean Click on Subtract from the drop-down menu
Click on inner1 in the components section in the Navigation Tree.
10. Repeat Step 7 with following dimensions for the cut to insert H-arm Repeat step 9
to subtract Cut from Outer1.

11. Repeat Step 7 with the following dimensions for the outer and inner surface of H-
armrespectively Repeat Step 9 to subtract Inner2 from Outer2.
12. Repeat Step 7 with following dimensions for the cut to insert E-arm Repeat Step 9
to subtract Cut from Outer1(Collinear arm).
13. Repeat Step 7 with following dimensions for the outer and inner surface of the E-
armrespectively Repeat Step 9 to subtract Inner3 from Outer3.

14. In the Modelling tab, Picks section, click on Picks click on Pick Face from the drop-
down menu. Double click on the surface of the hollow rectangular face.
15. In the Simulation tab, Sources and Loads section, click on Waveguide port. In the
Waveguide Port dialog box, Position section, update values as shown.
17. In the Simulation tab, Solver section, click on Setup Solver shown above. If the
frequency range dialog box shows, set the range from 6GHz – 12GHz, click OK. In the
Time Domain Solver Parameters dialog box, click on Start. The simulation begins.
18. After the simulation completes, you can find 1D and 2D/3D results in their respective
sections in the Navigation tree.
