Vlogger: Wazzup, guys! Welcome to a new video! Today, we’re going to do a virtual
tour! We are going to Philippine Normal University (pop out pics ng PNU) to learn about
one of their oldest offered courses. Let’s go!

Vlogger: Introducing… my dear school. Inang Pamntasan! Did you guys know that The
Philippine Normal University (PNU) was established on Sept. 1, 1901. Founded as
Philippine Normal School, it was said to be the first higher institute of learning
organized during the American occupation.

Vlogger: Today guys, we’re going to visit the heart of Inang Pamantasan which is the
Library! I have a trivia for you! Did you guys know that PNU as we know doesn’t just
offer teacher education related courses but they also offer courses for aspiring
Librarians! Let’s find out more as I tour you to our Inang Pamantasan’s Library!

As one of the oldest courses offered in PNU, Bachelor in Library and Information
Science Program under School of Information and Knowledge Management has been
producing innovative and competitive Librarian for years!
This course is designed to develop, deploy and manage varied information resources in
print, non-print, electronic and digital formats and services. BLIS graduates are being
trained and prepared to integrate technology to the different library operations and
services. In addition, students are trained to harness a range of bibliographical and
online tools to support teaching, research and other services.

Guys, if you are a student who will graduate in this program you are expected to be:
Number 1: You can demonstrate competence in applying pedagogical
innovations, knowledge and understanding in handling and retrieving
information by providing user-education, information and media literacy.
Number 2: You Manifest effective planning, organization, development,
implementation and evaluation of library and human resources to anticipate
future educational and organizational changes.
Number 3: You Display and manifest innovativeness, creativity and
complexity in developing, designing and managing instructional materials and
equipment to support instruction and in an academic community
Number 4: You know how to Demonstrate wide knowledge and skills in the
application, handling and management of information tools and resources
which lead in developing and utilizing appropriate technology solutions to
better serve the society’s informational needs.
And lastly Number 5: You Exhibit good technical skills in knowledge
representation, document analysis and information organization.

opportunity on this course! Here are some professions as a graduate of Library and
Information Science…
Library Technician – they are a skilled library and information paraprofessional trained
to perform the day-to-day functions of a library, and assists librarians in the acquisition,
preparation, and organization of information.
Cataloger- they are responsible for the processes of description, subject analysis,
classification, and authority control of library materials
Archivist – they are information professional who assesses, collects, organizes,
preserves, maintains control over, and provides access to records and archives
determined to have long-term value.
Documentalist - a professional, trained in documentation science and specializing in
assisting researchers in their search for scientific and technical documentation.
Bibliographer – they are responsible for compiling lists of books, periodical articles, and
audiovisual materials, on specialized subjects.
VLOGGER: See? There are lot of career opportunities here in this course not only being
a Librarian! Interesting, isn’t?
VLOGGER: If you guys are curious about what they do in this course, here are some of
the core subjects offered under BLIS Program:
Organization of Information Resources I and II (S-LIS06 and S-LIS07)
– A subject wherein they are studying how to catalog print and non-print
materials
Collection Management of Information Resources – deals with the
management of the library collection as well as well as its conservation and
preservation. (hanap ng vid na naglilinis ng books ng library sa FB vid nila
meron)
Indexing and Abstracting - This is a practical course which discusses the
principles, theories, and development of indexing and abstracting. This is where
students trained how to make an effective index and abstract so that library
users can find information quickly and effectively.
VLOGGER: Those are just some interesting subjects that BLIS Program has to offer!
Now guys, let me tour you to PNU Manila’s BLIS Facility. Here are the best facilities
featuring Computer Labs, airconditioned rooms, and of course a huge library from 2 nd to
4th floor with more than 40,000 books! (pakita pakita ng mga facilities)
VLOGGER: Also, here in this area, students can either relax and nap with the peaceful
atmosphere of the Library. (pakita yung pic ng tulugan sa 2 nd floor)
