VAG-COM Function Coding

1. Basics

1.1 Connecting the VAG-COM Cord The

To change any bit in any Byte of the unit:

We go to the selection of the control unit box by using the "Select"

In rare cases, you need to make mathematical tricks and either subtract or add any values from the prompts to the existing ones.

To save the value of the bits, use the "Tab" button to move to another bit, and then click "Exit" in the upper left corner and click "Execute" in the encoding window to save the new encoding.
Do not forget to leave the block to actually test the function in operation.
After activating any important function, you need to arm the car with the standard alarm!
After arming, the coding is reset and after disarming the new code will be read from the EEPROM memory!
Only then does the full activation of the function take place.

1.3 Adaptation

Sometimes coding is done through the adaptation of a block.

By analogy with coding, we reach the block control window and select "Adaptation - 10"

In the upper list, select the desired channel and click "Read"

In the updated window, we see a prompt, enter the desired value, click "Save" and exit the block.

1.4 Enabling Hidden Bits

Description

Almost everyone who independently climbed into the brains of a car using VAG-COM faced the problem of hidden bits, which are sometimes very necessary to activate any functions.
Features

Works on all versions of programs and is the simplest and most effective, because requires only an understanding of the difference between "0" and "1".
The

Byte method consists of 8 bits, in our case they are numbered from 0 to 7.
If we look at the Byte binary encoding window, we will see 8 characters each of which is "0" or "1". It is not difficult to guess 0 - off, 1 - on. You just need to remember that the values in binary
format are the inverse of decimal.
In other words, we count the bits in binary encoding from right to left from 0 to 7. It is easy to read a binary value if you represent it in bit numbers: 76543210.
And, as everyone probably already guessed, in order to activate the hidden bit, you just need to change the desired character into binary code from "0" to "1" and press "Tab" to save the value.

Example

If you want to include only 1, 3, 4 and 7 bits, then the binary value will look like this: 10011010.
If you only need to include 0 and 2 bits, then the binary value will look like this: 00000101.

1.5 Block model number

Description

Sometimes activation of some then the function rests against the support of the block.
To find out whether your block supports any function or not, just look at the block model number.

Method

The block model number is hidden in the "VAG number" field of the block control window (in the picture it is 3T0 907 115 F).

1.6 Important information

Returning to previous settings

If something is "twisted", then go to the "Debug" folder (in the program directory), open the "CodingLog.txt" file.
All your coding changes are recorded there. Go back to the previous settings for a start!

18 Byte

For all those who have "00" in the 18th Byte 9 of the block, this does not mean that your encoding is exactly the same.
If you change this value to another and then return to "00", the return to the original state is not guaranteed.

Engine electronics coding

For the engine control unit to be successfully encoded, the engine itself must be shut off.

Comfort unit

On the Octavia A5FL there is no comfort unit 46, its functions are performed by the 09 central electronics unit, which has a special feature.
If you drove the car before coding, then it does not respond to commands. To get an answer from block 9 - remove the key from the ignition and then turn on the ignition or start the engine,
then the block will communicate.
Also, the unit may not respond if the car is locked from the inside.

Shine

When changing the factory settings of external lights (item 3), be careful and restrained, otherwise you may end up with a Christmas tree that other road users will find it difficult to understand.
Also remember that overly bright lights can blind other drivers, which in turn can adversely affect road safety.

2. Control and dynamics

2.1 Reconfiguring the accelerator pedal

Description

Slightly eliminates the "bluntness" of the accelerator pedal, makes it more intelligible. This encoding is a kind of lite-version of the accelerator pedal encoding.

Only available for 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI engines.

Note

With this configuration it is better to reconfigure XDS, BAS and TSC to maximum.
Some people put the settings from Volkswagen - they say, it becomes less twitchy compared to Audi.

2.2 Throttle valve adaptation

Description

Over time, due to dirt, the range of the "open - closed" position changes slightly, to restore it, adaptation is carried out, so to speak, the unit re-learns where there is a really closed position of
the damper, and where there is an open one.

Features

For cars with an electronic throttle valve (the overwhelming majority of new cars), you need to choose group "060", for those with a mechanical throttle valve - group "098".

Coding

1 block → 04 - Basic parameters → enter the desired value in the "Group" window → press the "On / Off" switch at the top right → waiting for the "Adaptation OK" status

Note

If none of the groups responds, it means that your engine does not support this adaptation.

2.3 Conversion of automatic transmission

Description The

classic 6-speed automatic transmission (not DSG!) Can be reconfigured to your taste and color. At the same time, the ratio of the speaker / flow rate is directly proportional.

Features

There are 3 adequate settings: "0000072" is a rather stupid setting for retirees, "0000020" is an average setting, "0008201" is a quick setting from Audi TT.

Note

Since the automatic transmission mechanism is structurally very complicated, the misconfiguration may cause a variety deviations in the work, including a malfunction.
Be extremely careful! Make a note of your factory settings before reconfiguring.

2.4 Reconfiguring the GTZ

Description

Braking efficiency is increased by applying the pressure settings in the master cylinder (GTZ) from Audi S3, Skoda Octavia RS, VW Golf GTI, Seat Leon Cupra.

Note

It is advisable not only to readjust the pressure in the GTZ, but also to change the brake discs and calipers themselves.

2.5 Electronic Differential Lock (XDS)

Description

XDS (Electronic Differential Lock) improves driving dynamics when cornering by using an extended differential lock (also often referred to as comfortable driving).

Features

There are 3 levels of XDS: 0 - medium, 1 - low, 2 - high.

Coding

Block 3 → adaptation → channel 36 XDS → test → enter the desired level value → save

2.6 Setting the brake booster (BAS)

Description

BAS (Brake Assist System) helps the driver in a critical situation to realize the maximum effort on the brake pedal in the first moments of an emergency stop.

Features

There are 3 BAS levels: 0 - medium, 1 - low, 2 - high.

Coding

block 3 → adaptation → 09 channel Brake Assist → test → enter the desired level value → save

2.7 Torque compensation system (TSC)

Description

With a sharp acceleration, front-wheel drive cars with 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI drift slightly to the right. TSC (Torque Steer Compensation) removes this drift.

Coding

block 44 → adaptation → 05 channel TSC → test → enter "1" → save

Note

You can also set the value "2", the steering angle seems to increase.
When accelerating from 60-80 km / h, a slight vibration is transmitted to the steering wheel - this is a feature of this assistant.

2.8 Setting Assisted Steering (DSR)

Description The

Driving Steering Recommendation (DSR) assists when taxiing in difficult conditions such as rough terrain.

2.9 Activating the Adaptive Steering Assistant (DCC)

Description

Adaptive / Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) allows the power steering and variable suspension (if fitted) to adapt to the road conditions.

Features

Not supported by all units, performance has been tested on software versions of at least 3305.

2.10 retention assistant on the descent or ascent (HHC)

Description

HHC (Hill Hold Control) keeps the vehicle on descent or the rise and prevents its spontaneous rolling until the driver presses gas pedal.

Features

There are 3 levels of HHC: 0 - standard, 1 - fast (low rpm), 2 - long (high rpm).

Note

If after activation you still have an ABS error, then your unit does not support HHC.

2.11 Brake Disc Wiper (BDW)

Description

BDW (Brake Disc Wiper) keeps the brake discs dry and clean in rainy weather.
The system is activated when the wipers are turned on (manually or automatically) for more than 5 seconds.
It should be enabled by default, but it's still worth checking.

2.12 Corner Brake Control (CBC)

Description

2.13 Switchable ESC

Description

On vehicles manufactured after 2008 ESC (Electronic Stability Control) button can not be disabled (disconnected only ASR).
The same function allows, by holding the ASR button for 5 seconds, to temporarily turn off the ESC until it is turned on again with the button or the engine is restarted.

Features

Suitable for blocks whose number in the penultimate character contains "B" (XXX XXX XXX BX), except for blocks with numbers ending in "BD", "BE". It is done on a muffled engine.

Encoding

Unit 3 → coding → long coding → 06 Byte → "00" is replaced by "80"

2.14 Setting the idle speed to 1.6 MPI

Description

If the speed is jumping, this setting will help to level it.

Features of the

The tuning is performed with the engine switched off with the ignition on.
Permissible range: 128 (corresponds to 640 rpm, on the dashboard ≈ 700 rpm) to 148 (corresponds to 832 rpm, on the dashboard ≈ 850 rpm).
The check is performed on a running engine.

Coding

1 block → adaptation → 01 channel → enter the desired value → save

Check

1 block → 08 - Measured groups → enter the value “050” into the “Group” window and click “Read”.
The idle speed value is in the 2nd window.

3. Light

3.1 Turn on DRL

Description

Activates DRL (Daytime Running Light) in various ways.

Features

There are 4 options: A - DRL through an additional section in the PTF (directly the DRL themselves),
B - DRL through the side lights, C - DRL through the low beam, D - DRL through the PTF (there are 2 value options: 64 - turn on, E4 - enable, the ability to disable via MaxiDot).

Encoding

A) 9 block → encoding → long encoding → 15 Byte → 6 bits → enable → 7 bits → enable

B) 9 block → encoding → long encoding → 24 Byte → 7 bits → enable
C) 9 block → encoding → long encoding → 11 Byte → 2 bits → enable
D) 9 block → coding → long coding → 14 byte → 1 bit → enable → 15 byte → 7 bits → enable

Note

If there is no MaxiDot, then in options A and D 7 bits in 15 byte can be omitted.

3.2 Operation of DRL in position "O"

Description

In the position of the light switch "Auto", it switches from DRL to dipped beam, depending on the illumination.
When this function is turned on, the DRL works only in the "Auto" position, when the function is turned off, the DRL will also shine in the "O" position.

Encoding

3.3 Overall lights through the DRL

Description

DRLs continue to shine even after the switch is switched to the "side lights" or "low beam" mode.

3.4 Disabling DRL when setting the handbrake

Description

3.8 Interior lighting when the tailgate is opened

Description

3.9 Corner Feature

Description

Corner The function turns the backlight using TFF. Works only at speeds up to 40 km / h and in conjunction with low beam.

3.10 Disable Corner when Reversing

Description

3.12 Leaving Home function

Description

The Leaving Home function turns on the dipped beam headlights and side lights for a short time after opening the car with a standard remote control, as if illuminating your way to the car. Also

3.13 Comfortable direction indicator

Description

Comfortable direction indicator (aka Autobahn mode) turns on repeaters of turns for a certain number of blinks with a light touch to the turn signal control lever, without fixing this very lever in
the "on" position.

Special features

On 087 J and 087 units, Q changes only if MaxiDot is reset to factory settings.

Coding

block 9 → adaptation → 31 channel "blinking of direction indicators (cycles)" → test → enter the value of the number of blinks (from 1 to 5) → save

Note

The default is "3".

3.14 Visual confirmation of closing the car

Description

Blinking with turn signals when opening and closing the car with the standard alarm system.

Features

There are 2 values: 0 - disabled, 1 - enabled.

3.15 Emergency alarm

Description It is triggered

in case of sharp (emergency) braking in the form of frequent blinking of brake lights or direction indicators (alarm).

Features

There are 2 options for working: A - through the brake lights, B - through the direction indicators.

A) 9 block → coding → long coding → 16 byte → 1 bit → enable

B) 9 block → coding → long coding → 16 byte → 2 bits → enable

Note

If both options are activated, the emergency alarms will not work at all.

3.16 Highway mode

Description

This function, when driving for a long time at speeds over 140 km / h, automatically turns on the dipped beam and side lights, the so-called European Highway mode (or Autobahn). When
driving at a speed below 140 km / h for more than 2 minutes, the mode is automatically disabled.

3.17 Brightness adjustment range and taillights

3.18 Adjusting the brightness of the DRL

Description

The brightness is adjusted simultaneously for all DRLs (if someone has something additionally configured in the role of DRL).

Note

Default is 92%.

3.19 LED brightness in side light mode

Description

On Octavia A5FL RS makes LED lights brighter in side light mode. On the Octavia A5FL, the DRL will be lit together with the side lights.

Features

If the stroboscope effect is activated through the DRL, then it turns out, as it were, another type of "stroboscopes".

3.20 Disable polling number plate illumination lamp

Description

4. Comfort

4.1 indirect tire pressure monitoring II generation

Description

4.2 Cruise control on MaxiDot

Description

Only relevant for Skoda Octavia A5FL 1.4 TSI.

4.3 Automatic rear wiper on MaxiDot

Description

In the MaxiDot "Comfort and lighting" menu, it becomes possible to turn on / off the automatic mode of the rear wiper, which consists in activating the rear wiper once a minute, provided that
the front wipers work in continuous mode for more than 1 minute.

Многие фичи не работаю, т.к. идёт только для Октавий. Эта статья уже встречалась, на драйве что-ли (или там её тоже успешно копировали), народ обсуждал, что для VW многое не
подходит, тк и блоки иные, и некоторые функции идёт конкретно для Октавий.
