SIMPLE PAST TENSE (140 questions)
Rules – Simple Past
1. I use the Simple Past for actions finished in the past.
2. Typical signal words for he Simple Past are yesterday, last week, a month ago,
in 2010.
3. I add ed to the infinitive of regular verbs.
4. If the regular verbs ends in -e, I only add d to the infinitive.
5. With irregular verbs I use the form in the 2nd column of the table of the irregular
verbs.
6. I use did + not + infinitive of the verb to form the negative.
7. The contracted form for did + not is didn't .
8. I use did + infinitive of the verb in object questions.
9. I use the verb in the Simple Past in subject questions.
10. The verb be can have two forms in the Simple Past.
I use was with I, he, she, it and were with we, you, they.

Exercises
Put the correct forms of the verbs into the gaps. Use Simple Past in the statements.

Negate the first sentence in each task. Write the negations of the verbs in bold into the
correct gaps.

You can use long or short/contracted forms of the auxiliaries.
