Today cloth hawkers, cobblers who repair shoes, potters who make
earthen pots, makers of leaf carpets and steel binders are considered
inferior. People living in posh areas are not ready to even shake
hands with them. Whereas in the golden age of Muslims such
persons were the leaders of Muslims. In those days all professions
were considered a source of living and none was hatred. Now the
standard of respect and disrespect has changed. Now the persons
doing in interest business, hoarders, smuggler, manufacture of fake
medicine and corrupt persons are considered respectable. Those
who earn an honest living as a hawker, steel binder, carpet maker,
potter and cobbler are abominated. The people are honourable in the

Hadrat Samra bin Jundab (Allah be pleased with him) narrated that:
the Prophet said, "tonight I dreamt that (Gaberial and Mekail)(Salam

of blood, where a man was standing midst the river and on its bank,
another man was standing holding stones in his hand. The man in the
river attempts to come out and when he reaches the bank the other
man pelts stones on his face and forces him to retreat. This process
continued and shall remain to continue till the Day of Judgment. I
enquired about that man and the Prophet (Sall Allahu Alayhi Wa’alihi
Wa’sallam) told me that the person in the river is a usurer.
(Volume 3, Book 34, Number 298, Sahih Bukhari)
This Hadith tells us about the punishment for usurers. Since they
suck the blood of poor people in this world, therefore, they were
drowned in the river of blood. May Allah! Provide our protection due
to His beloved Prophet (Sall Allahu Alayhi Wa’alihi Wa’sallam).

land and water, and some of them opted for wasqs every year.
Hadrat 'A'isha and Hafsa (Allah be pleased with them) were among
those who opted for land and water.
(Book #010, Hadith #3759, Sahih Muslim)
This action of Prophet (Sall Allahu Alayhi Wa’alihi Wa’sallam) was not
for himself (Sall Allahu Alayhi Wa’alihi Wa’sallam) but his family. This
hadith mentions that stocking of the sustenance for one year for the
family is allowed and it is not hoarding. Prophet (Sall Allahu Alayhi
Wa’alihi Wa’sallam) also used to spend it upon needy persons from
this stock. Sometimes the entire stock was spent. Therefore, the
following hadith supports the same:
Hadrat Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) stated that: “Allah's Apostle
died while his (iron) armour was mortgaged to a Jew for thirty Sas of
barley”.
