HADHRAT ‘UMAR (R.A) COMING INTO ISLAM

Hadhrat ‘Umar (R.A), of whom all the Muslims are justly proud. And the disbelievers still dread,
was most adamant in opposing the Prophet (S.A.W) and very prominent in persecuting the
Muslims before he embraced Islam.
One dat. The Quraysh in a meeting called for somebody to volunteer himself for the
assassination of the Prophet (S.A.W). ‘Umar offered himself for this job, at which everybody
exclaimed: “Surely, you can do it, ‘Umar!” with sword hanging from his neck, he set out
straight away on his sinister errand. On his way he met Sa’ad bin Abi Waqqas of the Zuhrah
clan. Sa’ad inquired: “Whither! ‘Umar?.” ‘Umar said: “I am after finishing Muhammad.” Sa’ad:
“But do not you see that Banu Hashim, Banu Zuhrah and Banu Abde Munaf are likely to kill
you in retaliation?” ‘Umar (upset at the warning): “It seems that you also have renounced the
religion of your forefathers. Let me settle with you first”. So saying, ‘Umar drew out his sword.
Sa’ad announcing his Islam also took out his sword. They were about to start a duel when Sa’ad
said: “You had better first set your own house in order. Your sister and brother-in-law both
have accepted Islam.”

Hearing this, Umar flew into a towering rage and turned his steps towards his sister’s house.
The door of the house was bolted from inside and both husband and wife were receiving
lessons in the Qur’an from Hadhrat Khabbab (R.A). ‘Umar knocked at the door and shouted for
his sister to open it. Hadhrat Khabbab (R.A) hearing the voice of ‘Umar hid himself in some
inner room, forgetting to take the manuscript pages of the Holy Qura’an with him.

When the sister opened the door, ‘Umar hit her on the head, saying: “O, enemy of yourself. You
too have renounced your religion.” Her head began to bleed. He then went inside and inquired,
“What were you doing? And who was the stranger 1 heard from outside?” His brother-in-law
replied: ”We were talking to each other.” ‘Umar said to him, “Have you also forsaken the creed
of your forefathers and gone over to the new religion?” the brother-in-law replied, ”But what if
the new religion be better and the true one?” ‘Umar got stories of the Sahabah beside himself
with range and fell on him, pulling his beard and beating him most savagely.

When the sister intervened, he smote her so violently on her face that it bled most profusely.
She was, after all, ‘Umar’s sister: she burst out: “Umar! We are beaten only because we have
become Muslims. Listen! We are determined to die as Muslims. You are free to do whatever
you like.”

When ‘Umar had cooled down and felt a bit ashamed over his sister’s bleeding, his eyes fell on
the pages of the Qur’an left behind by Hadhrat Khabbab (R.A). He said, “Alright show me, what
are these?” “No!,” said the sister. ”You are unclean and no unclean person can touch the
scripture.” He insisted, but the sister was not prepared to allow him to touch the leaves unless
he washed his body. ‘Umar at last gave in. He washed his body and then began to read the
leaves. It was Surah “Taha”

He started from the beginning of the Surah, and he! Was a changed man altogether when he
came to the verse: “Lo! I, indeed I am Allah. There is none worthy of worship save Me. So serve
me and establish Salaat for My remembrance”. He said: “Alright, take me to Muhammad
(S.A.W).”

On hearing this, Hadhrat Khabbab (R.A). Came out from inside and said: “Oh ‘Umar! Glad
tidings for you. Yesterday (on Thursday night the Prophet (S.AW) prayed to Allah, ‘Oh, Allah
strengthen Islam with either ‘Umar or Abu Lahl, whomsoever their likes’. It seems that his
prayer has been answered in your favour.”

‘Umar then went to the Prophet (S.AW) and embraced Islam on Friday morning. ‘Umar’s Islam
was a terrible blow to the morale of the unbelievers, but still the Muslims were few in number
and the whole country was against them. The disbelievers intensified their efforts for the
complete annihilation of Muslims and the Extinction of Islam. With ‘Umar (R.A) on their side,
The Muslims now started saying their Salaat in the Haraam. Abdullah bin Mas’ood (R.A) says:
‘Umar’s Islam was a big triumph, his emigration to Madinah a tremendous reinforcement, and
his accession to the Caliphate a great blessings for the Muslims.

QURAN

The Holy Qur’an is the literal word of Allah (S.W.T), divinely revealed to Prophet
Muhammad (saw) through the Angel Jibreel (as). Before any attempt is made to describe
the meanings of the word “Qur’an” the etymological base of the Arabic language needs a
brief explanation first. The Arabic language is one of the richest languages in the world
word containing many meanings and hidden depths, which have no comparison in the
English language.

“And we have sent down to thee the Book explaining all things, a guide, a mercy and glad
tidings to Muslims”. (16:89)

They are the guiding light which the Messengers received show their respected peoples
the right path of Allah.

The following are the Messengers with their respected Devine Books:

1. Zabur (Psalm) - Prophet Daud A.S

2. Tawrat (Tora) - Prophet Musa A.S
3. Suhuf (Holy Scriptures) - Prophet Ibrahim A.S
4. Injil (Gospel)- Prophet Isa A.S

LAST WORDS OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (S.A.W)

Suddenly, there was a person, he said salaam. 'May I come in?' he asked. But Fatimah (R.A) did
not allow him enter the room. 'I'm sorry, my father is ill,' said Fatimah (R.A), turned her body
back and closed the door. She went back to her father who had opened his eyes and asked
Fatimah (R.A), 'Who was he, my daughter?' 'I don't know, my father. It was the first time for me
to see him,' Fatimah (R.A) said gently.

Then, Rasulullah (S.A.W) looked at his daughter with trembled look, as if he wanted to
reminisce about every part of her daughter's face. 'Know one thing! He is who erases the
temporary pleasure; he is who separates the companionship in the world. He is the death
angel,' said Rasulullah (S.A.W). Fatimah (R.A) bore the bomb of her cry. The death angel came
toward him; But Rasulullah (S.A.W) asked why Jibril (alahsalam) did not come along with him.
Then, Jibril (alahsalam) was called. Jibril (alehslam) was ready in the sky to welcome the soul of
Habibullah and the leader of the earth.

'O Jibril, explain me about my rights in front of ALLAH?' Rasulullah (s.a.w) asked with a
weakest voice. 'The doors of sky have opened; the angels are waiting for your soul.' 'All jannats
open widely waiting for you,' Jibril (alehsalam) said. But, in fact, all this did not make
Rasulullah (s. a.w) relieved, his eyes were still full of worry.. 'You are not happy to hear this
news?' asked Jibril (alehsalam).

'Tell me about the destiny of my people in future?' 'Don't worry, O Rasul ALLAH (s.a.w). I heard
ALLAH tell me: 'I make jannat haram for everyone, except the people of Muhammad (s.a.w)
who are inside it,' Jibril (alehsalam) said. It became closer and closer, the time for Malaekat
Izrail (alehsalam) to do his work. Slowly, Rasulullah's (s.a.w) soul was pulled. It was seemed
that the body of Rasulullah (s.a.w) was full of sweat; the nerves of his neck became tight.

'Jibril, how painful this sakaratul maut is!' Rasulullah (s.a.w) uttered a groan slowly. Fatimah
(rt.anha) closed her eyes, Ali (R.A) sat beside her bowed deeply and Jibril (alehsalam) turned his
face back. 'Am I repugnant to you that you turn your face back o Jibril?' Rasulullah (s.a.w)
asked the Deliverer of Wahy. 'Who is the one who could see the Habibullah in his condition of
sakaratul maut,' Jibril (alehsalam) said.

Not for a while, Rasulullah (s.a.w) uttered a groan because of unbearable pain. 'O ALLAH, how
great is this sakaratul maut. Give me all these pains; don't give it to my people.' The body of
Rasulullah (s.a.w) became cold, his feet and chest did not move anymore....

His lips vibrated as if he wanted to say something, Ali (R.A) took his ear close to Rasulullah
(s.a.w). 'Uushiikum bis shalati, wa maa malakat aimanuku - take care of the saalat and take
care the weak people among you.' outside the room, there were cries shouted each other,
sahabah held each other. Fatimah (R.A) closed her face with her hands and, again, Ali (R.A)
took his ear close to Rasulullah's ( s.a.w) mouth which became bluish. 'Ummatii, ummatii,
ummatii?' - 'My people, my people, my people.' And the life of the noble man ended.

THE ANGELS
She said, “That is Jibril. He used to come to the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi
Wasallam) in human form, but on this occasion he came in his real form, and he filled
the horizons of the sky.” Sahih Muslim
Ibn Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu) further narrated concerning the verse (which means):
“He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord”. [Quran 53:18]
“This means green cushions, filling the horizons.” : Sahih Al-Bukhari

Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) saw Jibril with six hundred wings.” Sahih Al-

Learning Essentials (Essential Topics)

Story Reading
Directions; Explain the Following;
1. Read the Story then compare the life of Prophet Ayoub (A.S) to your real life situations.
2. When you’re about in the situation of Prophet Ayoub’s Life, what are you going to do?
Are you going to take a long sabr or you’re going to get revenge to Iblis La’natullaah
‘alayhi?.
3. Get some moral lessons base from the story of the Prophet Ayoub (A.S)

SABAR AND EIMAAN OF AYOUB

“Truly! We found him patient. How excellent a slave! Verily, he was ever oft returning in
repentance to Us!” Quran: 38:44

Iblis overhearing all of this became annoyed. He planned to tempt Ayoub to corruption and
disbelief, so he hastened to him. He tried to distract Ayoub from his prayers by whispering him
about the good things in life but Ayoub was a true believer and would not let evil thoughts
tempt him. this disturbed In Iblis more; thus he began to hate Ayoub even more.

Iblis complained to Allah about Ayoub. He said that although he was continuously glorifying
Allah he was not doing so out of his sincerity but to satisfy Allah so that his wealth should not
be taken away. It was all show, all out of greed. “If you remove his wealth then you will find
that his tongue will no longer mention your name and his prayer will stop”. Allah told Iblis that
Ayoub was one of His most sincere devotees. he did not worship Him because of the favors; his
worship stemmed from his heart and had nothing to do with materials things.

But to prove to Iblis the depth of Ayoub’s sincerity and patience, Allah allowed him to do
whatever he and his helpers wished with Ayoub’s wealth. Iblish was very happy. He gathered
his helpers and set about destroying Ayoub’s cattle, servants and farms until he was left with no
possessions. Iblis say to Ayoub: All your wealth is lost, some people say that it is because you
gave too much charity and that you are wasting your time with your continuous prayers to
Allah others say that Allah has brought this upon you in order to please your enemies. If Allah
had capacity to prevent harm, then He would have protected your wealth.” True to his belief,
Ayoub replied: “What Allah has taken away from me belongs to Him. I was only its trustee for a
while. He gives to whom He wills and withholds form whom He wills”. With these words,
Ayoub again prostrated to his Lord.

When Iblis saw this, he felt frustrated, so he again addressed Allah and destroy Ayoub’s
children, and also his Health. Armed with this new authority, Iblis began to take revenge on
Ayoub’s body and filled it with disease until it was reduced to mere skin and bone and he
suffered severe pain. Even close relatives and friends deserted him. Only his kind and loving
wife stayed with him.

One day, Iblis went to Ayoub’s wife in the form of a man. “Where is your husband?” he asked
her. She pointed to an almost lifeless form crumbled on the bed and said: “there he is,
suspended between life and death.” Iblis reminded her of the days, when Ayoub had a good
health, wealth and children. Suddenly, the painful memory of years of hardship overcame her,
and she burst into tears.

She said to Ayoub: ”How long are you going to bear this tutored from our Lord? Are we to
remain without wealth, children or friends forever? Why don’t you call upon Allah to remove
this suffering?” Ayoub sighed, and in a soft voice replied: Iblis must have whispered to you and
made you dissatisfied. Tell me how long I enjoyed good health and riches?” she replied: “Eighty
years.” Then Ayoub replied: “How long am I suffering like this?”. She said:” seven years.” Ayoub
replied: “In that case I am ashamed to call on my Lord to remove the hardship, for I have not
suffered longer than the years of good health and plenty. It seems your faith has weekend and
you are dissatisfied with the fate of Allah. If I ever regain health, I swear I will punish you with
a hundred strokes! From this day onward, I forbid myself to eat or drink anything by your
hand. Leave me alone and let my Lord do with me as He pleases.”
Crying bitterly and with a heavy heart, she had no choice but to leave him seek shelter
elseehere.in this helpless sate, Ayoub turned to Allah, not to complain but to seek His mercy;
“Verily! Distress has seized me and You are the most Merciful of all those who show mercy”. So
we answered his call, and we removed the distress that was on him, and we restored his family
to him (that he had lost), and the like thereof along with them as mercy from ourselves and a
reminder for all who worship Us”.(21:83-84)
Believe in the Divine Decree/The Preordainment

Everything in the universe follows Allah’s master plan – Muslims believe that Allah has
decided everything that happens. This shows the importance of God’s will: “In all things
the master-planning is God’s”. (Surah 13:42)

The Prophet Muhammad also told his followers: “There is not one amongst you who has
not been allotted his seat in Paradise or Hell”. (Sahih Muslim, Book 33, Hadith 6400)

Muslims take this as further proof that every person’s life is already mapped out in
Allah’s plan. Doom (Qadhaa') is the general Decree of Allah that every human shall die,
whereas a Divine Decree (Qadr) is a particular Decree of Allah or the execution of
Qadhaa', that a certain person is to die at a particular time and place. Hence, believing in
this article entails believing that Allah has created everything and has foreordained its
proper measure

Shahadatain (Testimony) Laa ilaaha illa Allah, Muhammadur Rasulul Allah

(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah).

A. Laa ilaahaa illa-Allah)

The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

(Arabic text of the Hadith)

“Whoever says Laa ilaaha illa-Allah sincerely will enter Paradise”
Reported by Bajar, Declared Authentic by Al-Bani in Sahih Al-Jami

With regard of application of Shahadatain, we say: (Written in Arabic texts)

 Ash-hadu Al-laa Ilaaha illa Allah, Wa Ash-hadu anna Muhammadar Rasulul-Allah.

Laa ilaaha illa-Allah is the foundation of Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism) in Islam. it is a

complete of life.
The Muslim scholar Ibno Rajab said: the word “ilaaha’ (which is God) means the One who is
obeyed and not defied, out of one’s sense of Owe and reverence, love, fear, hope, placing ones
trust in Him, asking Him and supplicating Him alone and all of these are invalid except for Allah
alone.

B. Muhammadur Rasulul-Allah
(Muhammad is the messenger of Allah)

This statement encodes the belief that Muhammad (saw) was sent as a Messenger by Allah. So
we believe in what He reported as truth, we obey him inn whatever he commanded we abstain
from whatever he prohibited and we worship Allah in the Manner he prescribed.

And the Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

(Written in Arabic texts)

“Do not exaggerate in praising me as as the Christian did to (Jesus) the son of Mary, for I am
only a servant, so say (He is) the servant of Allah and His Messenger. –Bukhari

The exaggeration referred to the Hadith is excessive praise, so we may not supplicate Him
instead of Allah, as the Christian did with Jesus, the son of Mary, falling thereby into the
worship of Jesus along with Allah. Instead, He (saw) instructed us to call to him as “Muhammad
the servant of Allah and His Messenger) as for his praise (the kind of) which is mentioned in the
Qur’an and the Sunnah, it is His due right.

True loves of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) lies in obedience to him, by supplicating Alla
alone, and not supplicating other God, even a prophet or a saint.

(Written in Arabic text)

“When you ask, ask from Allah. And we you seek help, seek the help of Allah”. – Tirmidhi

The application of testimony of Prophet Muhammad (saw):
