Good morning everyone

My name is elyka galzote and I’ am here to discuss our topic for today about the basic strategies to promote learners
literacy “

As for the objectives of our discussion for today are the following

 what is literacy ?
 importance of literacy?
 barriers of literary?
 and how do we promote literacy?

At the end of our lecture, we are expecting that everyone attain knowledge on literacy

So lets , begin our topic proper for today’s discus’sion,

So first does anyone of you know what literacy is ?
Anyone ? does anyone have an idea?is

So Literacy is most commonly defined /as the ability to read and write.
A good foundation in literacy is vital for
every child and young person,
In other words it gives the ability!
to engage in education, reach our potentials, and to
participate fully in the community.
Although these are essential components of literacy,
today our understanding of literacy encompasses much more.
literacy is also the confidence and willingness to different languages we acquire, construct and communicate
meaning in all aspects of daily living.

Language is explained that it serve as a socially and culturally constructed system of communication.
Someone who reached advanced literacy in a new language, for example, is able to engage in these four skills
with their new language in any setting.

LITERACY IS AN EVERY-CENTURY SKILL

So what does it mean by literacy is an every century skill

where does literacy fit into your instruction? 21st century will read and write more than at any other time in
human history. People need the advanced levels of literacy to perform their jobs, run their households, act as
citizens, and conduct their personal lives.”
With content standards looming, it’s easy to focus only on the content we want to learn about. We have so much to tell
students and share with them. However, are we allocating enough time daily to practice our crucial communication
skills?
So moving on to the BARRIERS
So what is barriers ,do you know what barrier is ?
A barrier to learning, is anything/ that stands in the way of a child being able to learn effectively. A learner may
experience one or more barriers to learning throughout his or her education. ... For example extreme poverty,
abuse or neglect will all act as barriers to a child's learning.Barriers that increase confusion and spoil desire to
learn. Learning poor reading practices that cannot be unlearned.
Books that prevent learners becoming avid and skilled readers. Extra barriers for disadvantaged to children can
be barriers for other learners too. Other unintentional discouragements and Specific teaching disabilities

Proceeding on to how do we eliminate this barriers or how do we prevent poor literacy

So Here’s one way to look at it: (Content’) is what we want to emphasize, but there is also the how, and this is
where literacy comes in. There are an endless number of engaging,
effective strategies getting attention to think about, write about, read about, and talk about the content we
teach. So The ultimate goal of literacy is to build a student’s comprehension, writing skills, and overall skills in
communication.
Here are some examples on how do we prevent poor literacy

 teachers with high expectations for pupils’ achievements in literacy

 an emphasis on speaking and listening skills from an early age
 a rigorous, sequential approach to developing speaking and listening and
 teaching reading, writing and spelling through systematic phonics
 sharp assessment of progress in order to determine the most appropriate
 programme or support carefully planned provision to meet individual needs
 rigorous monitoring of the impact of provision
 high-quality pastoral care to support learning in literacy
 highly effective use of time, staff and resources.

these factors were leading to measurable improvements. Importantly when their monitoring provided evidence
of weaknesses and ‘stuck with what worked’.to meet changing needs.there's a wide variety of effective
approaches to the teaching and learning of literacy that built on the consistent use of phonics. Many of the
Good approaches were in common use, but they were particularly effective if put in practices.

Importance of literacy
literacy plays a vital role in transforming students into socially engaged citizens. Being able to read and write
means being able to keep up with current events, communicate effectively, and understand the issues in our world.

To promote literacy development

We should be allocate an effort between home and school.
Here are a few things we can support early learners’ literacy skills:

Encourage reading
Reading is the first pillar of literacy, so encourage young learners to immerse themselves in it frequently and
deeply. This should involve to a broad variety of different genres, such as newspapers, novels, comics, magazines, films,
reference material, and websites.Discuss texts together
Actively discussing what has been read encourages learners to make connections and think deeply about the
ideas contained in texts. Follow up the reading or viewing of a text with a discussion of what it made learners think and
feel.

Use games and activities that support literacy development

Write a half-page story that makes use of a new and unusual word or phrase.
Describe a person or object with as many adjectives as you can think of.
Information scavenger hunt: scour the web to find facts on a given topic within a set time frame.
Recap the plot of a novel or film in your own words (as learners progress they can try to do this in as few words
as possible).
 Make use of the library
Immersing children in a huge range of texts encourages them to dive in and explore. There’s no better place to
do this than the school or community library.

Therefore Thats all for our discussion today about learners literacy, I hope we learn a lot to our discussion
thankyou everyone for having your attention and time for listening .
