1. Introduction
Two Apple engineers, Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers, founded Nest in 2010. Fadell was originally
inspired by the inadequacies of thermostats for settings appropriate to his vacation home. Nest
Learning Thermostat was introduced in October 2011.Nest applications allow users to connect
with their home from wherever they may be. All Nest devices and applications connect to the Nest
service. The device of Nest are Thermostats, Protects, and Cameras and applications are iOS,
Android, and web apps. Nest uses a variety of signals to detect human presence in a Home. Google
Nest is Google's line of voice activated smart home products. Google Nest may seem like a
consumer product, but it is usable by businesses as well. Consumers will use Google Nest smart
speakers as an entertainment and information hub, while businesses can use various features to
automate smart offices and to extend their market reach. Nest is a market leader in the smart
devices space. Google Nest is the company's line of smart home devices. According to Marwan
Fawaz, Nest’s future is open-ended.

1.1. Who Owns Nest?
The company that owns Nest is Google. In 2014, Google bought Nest, which added to company's
Internet of Things portfolio. Since then, Nest has become a household name, due in large part to
the ease of use of the smart devices. The company officially branded the Nest as Google Nest in
mid-2019.

1.2. Sensors in Google Nest
Google has connected home device on cameras, microphones and other sensors to provide helpful
features and services. These sensors can detect things like motion; sound and temperature to
protect your home make lives more convenient and comfortable.
1.2.1. Current sensors Google’s connected home device
Cameras: - record video and still images and detect what is happening in the home.
Microphones: - record audio and can detect specific sounds or motion nearby.
Activity sensors:-detect activity or changes to the physical state of the device, such as a
door sensor that detects when a door opens, or detects when a device moved. Some activity
sensors may also detect the presence or movement of people in your home.
Environmental sensors:-detect external properties of the surrounding environment, such
as temperature, humidity, light, smoke and monitor the conditions inside or around home.
Control sensors:- enable control of a device, such as a touch-sensitive button, or a magnetic
sensor to detect the position of the ring on the Nest Learning Thermostat
Motion: - detect movement of people or animals in a room.
Google’s connected home devices may also contain additional sensors that monitor device
operation. For example, internal device sensors can detect when a device’s battery is running
low, when it is overheating, or other conditions that can affect the ability of the device to
operate as intended.
1.2.2. Examples of nest sensor Uses
a. Nest Cam
It is a webcam designed for monitoring the home; the owner can view streamed video
on a smartphone.
It is Internet connected device intuitive and easy to use. It optimize security and
comfort.

b. Nest Thermostat
Gathers data from experience and programs itself for temperatures the owners prefer, once
established the product automatically adjusts temperatures.
It can notify owners if the temperature gets too high or too low, enabling them to avoid
frozen pipes or an overheated.

c. Nest Protect
It is a smoke and carbon monoxide detector with battery-operated and AC versions.
Protect can turn off the furnace in the event of a potential fire and can be silenced by
a smartphone-generated command.

d. Nest Secure
It is a home alarm system that owners can arm and disarm from anywhere.
Owners can choose how much time they have to arm or disarm the alarm before it goes

1.3. Advantages of NEST
a. Security
A product can use the Nest API to help prevent home intrusions. When all family
members are away from home, the structure enters away mode.

1.4. Disadvantages of NEST
a. Complex
Installation and maintain process is complex.

The cost of buying and fixing system is high. In addition, it is difficult for firms for the
maintenance.
