Acdamic and Non acdamic behaviour:
Academic Activities:
Worship could be anything that can be done to please Allah. Anything that brings benefit to
the mankind can also be reflected as an act of worship. This life is a test and we can pass it
by doing good deeds. We should become slaves of Allah and do our best to please Him. We
should always remain obedient towards Allah.
The Quran says:

“(ALLAH) who has created death and life, that HE may test you which of you is best
indeed.”
Surah Al-Mulk [67:2]

Humans have the right to make decisions but the consequence depends upon our actions.

Routine of University:
For example, if a person studies psychology and treats at least one needy person free of
cost daily with the intention to please God, it will become a source of worship for him/her.
Similarly, if we are becoming a doctor, we should have the intention that we will treat the
poor free of cost once or twice a week. In this way our academic activities can also be a part
of our worship. It is stated in the Quran

“You alone we worship; You alone we ask for help”

Surah Al-Fatiha[1:5]

Moreover, in our academic life we interact with many people including the junior staff such
as custodians and guards. We should come with the intension that we should say them
salaam when we meet them in the morning and show respect towards them. We should not
be rude towards them and treat them equally in order to show obedience towards Allah.
We can also help them financially and take care of their basic needs when needed. This can
also be an act of worship. We should also be polite with the lab attendants and should not
argue with them rather show them respect in order to please Allah.
It is written in the Quran

“Verily! God is with those who do good deeds.”

Surah Al-Ankabut[29:69]

Helping others in our academic lives to please Allah can also be worship. Besides making fun of
students who are unable to understand things quickly and make mistakes, we can help them in this
hour of need. We should also be supportive towards our juniors who are new to the university and

Page 2
need assistance at any stage. One should also not cheat in his/her papers and should be sincere with
it to prove the slavery of Allah Almighty. The act of worship can also be fulfilled if one hears his/her
lectures attentively with the intension of worship in mind. We should also be patient while standing
in the queue in offices and not create any chaos because Allah loves patience and this can please
Him.

Non-Academic Activities
In our daily lives anything we do that is not disobeying God, can be considered as worship.
The most common practice nowadays is that people usually listen to music while travelling,
whereas this time we can be utilized to recite short dua’s or quranic verses which can give
us a huge reward later on. Not only we can recite the verses but also ask Allah for
forgiveness. In this way we can spend some more time in the remembrance of God.
Allah says:

“And your Lord said: “Call upon Me, I will answer you. Verily, those who scorn My worship
they will surely enter Jahannam in humiliation!”
Surah Al-Ghafir[40:60]

Apart from this, most people especially youngsters throw tantrums when they are not
provided with the food of their choice at home. One should eat it without any argument and
be thankful to Allah for it. We should not always eat lavish food all the time. Rather our
meal should be simple. It is strictly forbidden to be disrespectful at food.

“And when your Lord proclaimed, “If you give thanks, I will give you more; but if you are
thankless, lo!  My punishment is dire.”
Surah Al-Abrahim[14:7]

We can also make a part of our routine to feed the birds and cats. Feeding them can also be
a good dead and can please Allah. It is considered a very good deed to feed the animals.
One can also recite the name of Allah before and after eating and should eat according to
the sunnah.
We should also be respectful towards our elders. Whenever we greet someone we should
greet them with a smile. We should also show kindness towards relatives. Relatives play an
important part in our life and have been given great importance in Islam.
It is stated that

“The person who breaks the bond of kinship will not enter paradise.”
 [Sahih Al-Bukhari]

Student–teacher relationship:
Importance of teacher in Islam
Teacher has been given very high importance in Islam. Teacher is the one that gives
his pupil a proper direction and make him the sensible and educated person in the world.
He changes the student life and brings him to the light of knowledge from the darkness of
ignorance.

Hazrat Ali’s saying is: The person who taught me one word made me his slave.

Right of Teacher
Teacher has been given a higher status in Islam.
 So, as a student we should respect our teachers and obey their orders.
 We should behave in good manner with them as we do in front of our parents
because teacher is the spiritual father to us according to Islam. Teacher is the
person who will give us guidance and make our future bright.
 We should not disobey him. Commonly when teacher takes a test we behave rude
because most of us do not like test or exams.

Hazrat Ali has said very well for this occasion:

Life is stricter than a teacher. A teacher teaches and then takes an exam. Life takes
a teat and then teaches.

So we should not be rude because the exam they take is beneficial for us but we don’t think
in that way. Teacher is like a torch of light which gives us the direction in the darkness of
ignorance and helps us to reach our destination successfully. We know that a person cannot
become successful without the prayers of his parents just like that a student cannot become

Page 4
successful if there is no respect for his teachers. He also requires the prayers of his teachers
to become more successful in life.
u who are faithful and those who have acquired knowledge”.
If a teacher scolds us there is always guidance in it for us. And most of us think bad for the
teacher that why he scolded us. A teacher never thinks bad for any of his student. Instead,
teacher would be the happiest person to see his student become successful in the world.
Relation between a student and a teacher is the relation based on knowledge, guidance,
and trust. We should trust our teachers that they will lead us to the right direction.

A good teacher is like a candle; it consumes itself to light the way for others.

A teacher not only gives us education related to our professional field but also gives us
virtues and manners which should be present in a sensible person. He makes us a good
person who should spread his knowledge and work for the goodness of the world. He
teaches us how should we speak in from of the public and convey our message so that
everyone can understand us easily. Without these virtues our education is nothing just a
waste of time.

Interaction with other staff an students:
Our interaction with other staff of the institute should also be good just like the
teachers of the institute. Other staff includes janitors, security guards etc. We should
behave with them in good manner because they are here to facilitate us. Many students
don’t respect them because they think that these people have no status and we have no
need to show love for them. These students show attitude before them. Janitors keep the
institute clean just for us. Security guards are there to protect us from danger. So, instead of
showing attitude we should be thankful to them.

In hadith, Hazrat Muhammad(SAW) has said:

Who do not have pity on children and not respect the elders is not one of us.

Our behavior with other students should be friendly. We should respect our seniors because
we have seen that our seniors are very helpful. They help us in our studies. Therefore, we
should also help our juniors and guide us in a good manner. Every student has come from a
different background so in our institute we are community. We should help everyone in
every aspect like intellectually and monetarily.

Facilitate (ease} for people and do not make it difficult for them and give them good
tidings.
Hazrat Muhammad (SAW).

Group study with friends:

The advantage of group study is that make good relation with other as a brother and sister.

Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives,
orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at
your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does
not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.

Surah Al-
Nisa[4:36]
