TRENDS IN MANUFACTURING:

a. Before manufacturing the products, engineers need to design that product on paper or sheet
or designing software. In order to have maximum participation of people in the designing
field, we need to lower the barrier so that more people can participate in design and
manufacturing.
b. In the previous days only, few engineers work on the design and rest of the engineers work
there to bring their ideas into the market but now the things has change. Now, everyone has
their own vision and ideas. Nowadays we can see the convergence of trends which helps to
lower the barrier and helping to bring their product into the market.
c. Most people when they developed their product think of the traditional product lifestyle from
concepts of engineering, manufacturing, to sales, use service and eventually end of service.
But to connect with our product even after sales, there are so many methods are innovating.
d. The six-axis robot was very difficult and intricate to make and bringing it to market then was
thing which seems to be not possible but with the help of tool and technology and great help
of cloud, six different geographic location connected at one place and build that product.
e. RAM-LAB is responsible for the repair and servicing of large vessel, cargo ship containers,
if a propeller blade breaks on one on this cargo ships, they have next generation production
technology that they can literally 3D print that part.
f. According to the norms of 2050, we need to design the airbus which has 50% less CO2
emission, so it has to be lightweight and for that generative technology help by connecting
the product to cloud and it gives you ideas that you can use in your product. It shows you
more than 10 results according to the market demands.
g. In the push-button manufacturing there is design and manufacturing together, Autodesk
software helps to automate the part and thus engineers can spend their time and effort in
creative process.

INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL MANUFACTURING:

a. With the simple data source, people of different discipline can improve the design, analyze
its performance, prepare the tooling and even begin building the marketing material, all in
parallel.
b. With the help of digital manufacturing, different people from different places can contribute
to design the product and this is possible with the help of digital manufacturing.
c. In the previous years, it is difficult to design the product and analyze it and this creates a big
obstacle for start-ups, but now as the manufacturing and design are innovating, things are
easy and now they can bring their ideas into the market.
d. In future, computer will not only become a tool to design but it will be a partner in the whole
process, digital manufacturing is improving and many of the things will change into it which
will make easy for the engineers to bring their ideas into the world.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CAREER SKILLS:

In case of mechanical engineering, the things are changing. There are different skills, abilities
and knowledge mechanical engineers must have but, in the future, surely, they will need more
advance skills than toady.

Current mechanical engineering skills Future mechanical engineering skills

1. Drafting 1. Additive manufacturing
2. Part and assembly design 2. Hybrid manufacturing
3. Surfacing design 3. Machine learning
4. Design for manufacture 4. Simulation drive design
5. Finite element analysis 5. Generative design

In the future, for every engineer’s job they will need the work style, skills, abilities and knowledge.
Work styles such as dependability, adaptability, attention to detail, leadership, cooperation. Skills
like critical thinking, complex problem solving, speaking, listening and most management. Abilities
like deductive reasoning, visualization and written comprehension. And most important they will
require the knowledge of mathematics, physics, English language, design, engineering and
technology.

WHAT IS FUSION 360?

a.Fusion 360 is a cloud-based CAD, CAM and CAE tool for collaborative product development.
b. Fusion 360 combines fastenings of organic modeling with precise solid modeling, allowing
you to make your design manufacturable. Fusion 360 is an innovative approach to modeling.
c.It has enough flexibility to let virtually any user approach the design process however they like.
d. Suppose if you are shoe designer and you have that typical shoe design, so on any other cad
software before manufacturing that product you need to make lots of sketches and then design
finally but in case of fusion 360, we can quickly improve the surface of that typical shoe and it
take less than half hour, it’s just a matter of time.
e.Another example of product designing in fusion 360 is suppose you have the product and you
need to design that product on NC machine and you have very less time so you can quickly
correct the surface of your designing in just a matter of time.
f. Before manufacturing any part of machine, it is necessary to simulate it on any design software.
Fusion 360 has very high graphics and flexibility that it can simulate the part even if it is not
manufacture in fusion 360.

KEY DIFFERENCE IN DESIGN WORKFLOW FROM TINKERCAD TO FUSION 360:

a.Both tinkercad and fusion 360 keep data in the cloud and allow you to collaborate with other
users.
b. In fusion 360 we can make n number of changes on a file and can make n number of versions
and still can go back to any version. Fusion 360 is the sketch-based CAD program.
c.In tinkercad, we need to group the geometry before add or subtract geometry but fusion 360 use
tool called feature that allows to add, subtract and modify geometry.
d. In case of the tinkercad, you create the box shape and then you provide the radius but in case of
Autodesk, you can create the 2D model in all plane and then you can extrude it, in case of the
complicated geometry this is very easy.
e.Fusion 360 saves a step by step history of every feature that you have added. Fusion 360 divides
the complicated shape in many numbers of points and surface this gives flexibility to pull that
part and can work even intricate over it.
f. Tinkercad was initially developed for 3D printing so it has its limitation but in case of fusion
360, end goal can be 3D print or many other manufacturing processes like machining, injection
molding etc.
g. Fusion 360 allows you to create basic parts but you can also put together complex assemblies
and each thing in fusion 360 designing process is so programmed that after completing the
design you can directly put iron block in CNC machine and you will get that part that has
design on fusion 360.
h. In tinkercad, there is limit in workspaces, initially the part has designed like the blocks and
then converting it into final part design and simulate it or animate it is in the single workspace,
which is little bit complicated.
i. In case of fusion 360, there are several workspaces over which we can work with like there is
different workspace for animation, 2D drawing, final part etc.

KEY DIFFERENCE IN DESIGN WORKFLOW FROM SOLID WORKS TO FUSION 360:

a.SolidWorks has long been the industry leader for CAD modeling. Then, five years ago, Fusion
360 launched, a new, cloud-based CAD modeling software to challenge the industry leader.
b. In their simplest forms, SolidWorks and Fusion 360 are both software used for the same thing:
3D modeling. However, depending on if you’re an engineer, designer, architect, or maker,
you’ll find yourself preferring one over the other.
c.SolidWorks is an assembly-driven software. That means it builds parts individually before
assembling them in a separate file. This is advantageous when parts are used in many
assemblies as well as for documentation purposes. Although SolidWorks does have the option
to create multibody parts, this feature does not provide the same amount of flexibility as Fusion
360’s process.
d. Fusion 360’s solution is to use a multi-component part system, where components of an
assembly are built and assembled in the same file. This makes it easier for engineers and
designers to reference other components and build off of them within an assembly. Unlike
SolidWorks, Fusion 360 does not need to reference multiple files when building an assembly,
although larger assemblies in Fusion can cause issues.
e.For non-technical designers, Fusion 360 offers many easy-to-use analysis packages to understand
how a part will respond to external forces. These simulation packages include: static stress
analysis, thermal analysis, buckling, and shape optimization. Thus, Fusion 360 is great for
basic and easy-to-use simulations but lacks some of the more advanced features.
f. Similarly, to Fusion 360, SolidWorks offers a simulation package with varying sets of features,
depending on the purchased license. SolidWorks’ best simulation package lets you evaluate
linear and nonlinear responses, dynamic loading, composite materials, linear and nonlinear
dynamics, and much more. SolidWorks is therefore a great tool for very advanced simulations
and analysis.
g. Another feature important to designers is mesh modeling. This is where points along a surface
can be “pushed” or “pulled” to create organic geometry and surfaces. Unlike SolidWorks,
Fusion 360 excels in this area.
h. Fusion can directly import a project into its “Sculpt” feature, where a user can instantly start
mesh modeling with a very user-friendly interface. SolidWorks offers a similar feature using
its surfacing features, but it’s very challenging to set up and unintuitive to execute.

STORING THE DATA:

a.With traditional CAD software, you either have a very expensive PDM system, a shared network
location, or local file storage. These systems have benefits but they do also have
drawbacks, many of which you probably run into a time two. For years now, cloud storage
has been a great benefit in many different industries. You probably store more data on the
Cloud than you even know.
b. How is Fusion 360 different?
Well, for starters, your data is all in the Cloud. You no longer have to be concerned with the
hard drive size, organization of your files, or even if you have multiple copies of the same file.
c.Now while you can work offline and decide if you want Fusion 360 to maintain an up-to-
date and offline cache of your projects, it isn't strictly required. You create a file, you save
it, and if you need to work in a different location, you made a copy.
d. But therein lies the problem, that copy. Not only is it problematic to copy a single file
especially back in the floppy disk days, but you have to worry about the most current
version, all locations of file saved, and who has a copy. Now your advisor is away from the
office, but if you send a share link and can view your file in 3D right in any browser. can make
comments, approve changes, and let you know right away how progress is coming.
e.With Fusion 360, you can work offline and when you get reconnected, your data updated
automatically. If you happen to lose connection while working, just keep working. Fusion 360
saves attempt local copy and the next time you connect to the Internet, your work is updated.

HOW TO CREATE A PROJECT AND SUBFOLDERS TO HELP US ORGANIZE OUR DATA?

a.To get started, we're going to open or show the data panel by using the icon in the upper left-
hand corner of Fusion 360. The name you'll see at the top of the data panel should be the name
of your Team Hub. If not, you want to make sure to navigate to your name drop down in the
upper right-hand corner, and select Switch Teams and pick the Team Hub that you want to use.
b.  If you click on the name at the top of the data panel, this will open up on the web where you
can also create new projects and folders. At the top of this area, we have the all projects
section.
c.We also have libraries which has assets in it and several different sample projects. You can name
this new project whatever you want. If we double-click on this, we'll now be inside of this
project. You can see the name there, and again, if we click on this, it'll open up this project
and the web inside of Autodesk 360.
d. We have data and people that are displayed on this project. We can upload data and we can
also create a new folder or go to settings. While it's not required for you to create multiple sub
folders, it does help when organizing data, especially if you have a specific structure in mind.
e.To navigate back, we can select project file We can select the arrow next to it to go back up a
level if we have multiple sub folders, or we can select this triangular icon to navigate back to
the top level underneath this project.

HOW TO OPEN, CLOSE AND SAVE A FILE?

a.we want to get started by opening our data panel, navigating into and get into the folder. we're
need to select the Upload button. Once we select Upload, we can select the file or we can drag
and drop the file into this box. We also have the ability to change the location.
b. We can also see the job status there, whether you are online or offline. Once the file has been
loaded completely, we can double-click on it to open inside of our canvas area.
c. Every time we save a file in Fusion, the version will be updated which means that we can go
back to previous saved versions at any point in time.
d. To close the file, all we simply need to do is hit the X at the upper right-hand corner of its
name.

ACCESSING AND CUSTOMIZING TOOLS:

a.The first thing that we want to do is expand our data panel. The data panel is located at the top of
our screen and it’s called the application bar. If we want to close any of these other untitled
files, we simply use the X next to their name. And because nothing's been done in those files,
we're not prompted to save them.
b.The next area that I want to focus on is up in the right-hand corner, and this is called the profile,
preferences, notification, and help area. This is going to show you notifications, things like any
updates that may be happening with Fusion 360, if a new version is ready to be
installed. Access to things like manufacturing extensions, information about job status, whether
or not you're working online if you have a connection problem.
c. If we take a look more in terms of our modeling and how we get access to features and tools,
we're going to be looking mainly at the toolbar. The interface of Fusion 360 has a common
tabbed interface. We can access things like surface and sheet metal tools, specific tools such as
sending a file to 3D print, taking a look at add-ins, and some inspection options such as
measuring and taking a look at curvature.
d.We also have access to work spaces. These will be things like creating detailed renderings, doing
animations of a design, simulation, creating tool paths to cut or manufacture a design, and even
creating detailed drawings. We also have some of the have shortcut keys listed next to
them. For example, extrude has E, Hole has H, and if we go a little bit deeper, such as into
Patterns, you'll notice that all of these features have three dots on the right-hand side.
e.If we want to add any of these to our standard toolbar, such as Sweep, we can use these three
dots. We can pin to Toolbar, we can pin to Shortcuts, or we can Change a Keyboard Shortcut
that's associated with that item. at the bottom of our screen.
f. The small area here, which is called the navigation bar and display settings, has some options for
things like orbit, looking directly at a planar face, panning, zooming, and fitting to screen. We
also have some display options such as changing the visual style. For example, we could go to
a wire frame display or we could do a shaded without the hidden edges.
g.There are also some additional options in the display settings such as whether or not to display
mesh face groups, change the environment we're working in. Modify the effects such as an
environment dome or ground plane, change the visibility of certain aspects of the design,
change the camera.
h.While we're on the topic of our view cube, this is a great way for us to reorient our view by using
the Home options, or taking a look at it in standard view orientations. We can also rotate the
view by 90 degrees quickly and easily. And we can use this drop-down arrow to expand some
of our options such as changing our camera, resetting our default home view, and resetting our
current view.
i. At the very bottom of our screen we have a timeline. This is a history-based record of the
features and sketches that are created in our design. We have a history-based set of features
and sketches located at the bottom of our screen, that we can modify and navigate through at
any point in time.
