1 Overview
The RRU5909 is an outdoor remote radio unit that is powered by a power cabinet. It is the RF
part of a distributed base station and can be installed near the antenna. The RRU5909
performs modulation, demodulation, data processing, and combination and division of
baseband signals and RF signals.
With the software-defined radio (SDR) technology, the RRU5909 can work in multiple modes
through software configuration. With the feature of LTE FDD and NR uplink spectrum
sharing, the RRU5909 can work in NR, LN, and GLN in the uplink.
The RRU5909 adopts a 2T2R design, which further improves the output power and carrier
capacity.
1.1 Appearance
Figure 1-1 shows the appearance of the RRU5909.
From SRAN12.1 onwards, the RRU5909 (900 EGSM/900 PGSM) can work in NB-IoT mode.
From SRAN12.1 onwards, the RRU5909 (1800 MHz) can work in LM mode. From SRAN13.1
onwards, the RRU5909 (1800 MHz) can work in GLM mode.
From SRAN15.0 onwards, the RRU5909 (1800 MHz) can work in NR mode in the uplink.
From SRAN15.1 onwards, the RRU5909 (EU 700 MHz) can work in NR mode in the uplink.
2 Technical Specifications
In the following sections, 900 EGSM and 900 PGSM are also referred to as 900 MHz.
2.2 Capacity
Table 2-2 Single-mode capacity
Mode Capacity
The GSM receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 51.021, is measured at the antenna
connector assuming that the channel rate reaches 13 kbit/s and the bit error rate (BER) is lower than
or equal to 2%.
The UMTS receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 25.104, is measured at the antenna
connector assuming that the channel rate reaches 12.2 kbit/s and the BER is lower than or equal to
0.1%.
The LTE FDD receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, is measured under a 5 MHz
bandwidth based on the FRC A1-3 in Annex A.1 (QPSK, R = 1/3, 25 RBs) standard.
The LTE NB-IoT receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, is measured under a 200
KHz bandwidth and a 15 KHz subcarrier spacing based on the FRC A14-1 in Annex A.14 (π/2
BPSK, R = 1/3, 1 RB) standard.
The following inband & guardband table describes the total output power of LTE FDD+LTE NB-IoT.
For details about power configurations for LTE FDD and LTE NB-IoT, see the "L+M Configuration
Combination" sheet in NB-IoT Typical Power Configurations (RRU) or NB-IoT Typical Power
Configurations (RFU).
When two LTE FDD carriers are configured, it is recommended that the power spectrum density
(PSD) of the two carriers be set to the same value. PSD = Carrier output power/Carrier bandwidth
(1.4 MHz and 3 MHz bandwidths are considered as 5 MHz bandwidth in this formula.)
The output power is 1 dB less than the standard power when an RRU/RFU is located at a height of
3500 m to 4500 m; and is 2 dB less than the standard power when the RRU/RFU is located at a
height of 4500 m to 6000 m.
For an RRU/RFU working in GSM mode, the maximum output power per TRX is 60 W when the
S1 or S2 configuration is used. If the output power of 60 W is required, the corresponding power
license must be purchased.
Factors such as the inter-site distance, frequency reuse factor, power control algorithm, and traffic
model affect the gains of dynamic power allocation. In most cases, network plans are designed based
on the power specifications using dynamic power allocation.
When the power sharing function is used:
Assume that UEs in a cell are randomly distributed.
Power sharing requires the DTX and power control functions. In GBSS8.1, the dynamic power
sharing feature is mutually exclusive with the GBFD-113201 Concentric Cell, GBFD-114501
Co-BCCH Cell, GBFD-118001 BCCH Dense Frequency Multiplexing, and GBFD-117501
Enhanced Measurement Report (EMR) features. In GBSS9.0 and later versions, the dynamic power
sharing feature can be used together with these features. However, the dynamic power sharing
feature currently cannot be used together with the GBFD-117002 IBCA (Interference Based Channel
Allocation), GBFD-117001 Flex MAIO, GBFD-118701 RAN Sharing, and GBFD-114001 Extended
Cell features in GBSS8.1, GBSS9.0, and later versions.

The typical power consumption of an RRU is measured when the ambient temperature is 25°C and the
RRU is 50% loaded. The actual power consumption has a 10% deviation from this value.
Item Specifications
DC RRUs can use external power modules (such as AC/DC power modules, OPM15M, and OPM50M)
to support AC scenarios. For details about the external power modules, see user guides of the
corresponding models.
