1) Finance: BA is of utmost importance to the finance sector. Data Scientists are in high
demand in investment banking, portfolio management, financial planning, budgeting,
forecasting, etc.
4) CRM: Business Analytics helps one analyse the key performance indicators, which further
helps in decision making and make strategies to boost the relationship with the consumers.
5) Manufacturing: Business Analytics can help you in supply chain management, inventory
management, measure performance of targets, risk mitigation plans, improve efficiency in
the basis of product data, etc
6) Credit Card Companies: Credit card transactions of a customer can determine many
factors: financial health, lifestyle, preferences of purchases, behavioral trends, etc.
Innovations & Applications Of Business Intelligence
1) Sales Intelligence: A key application of BI focuses on where your business meets the
customer. Customer negotiation is a crucial skill that every organization’s sales
department should foster.
2) Visualization: Business intelligence software utilizes a range of data analytic tools that are
designed to analyze and manage data related to your business operations. This data,
presented in the form of visualizations, allows the organization to monitor logistics, sales,
productivity and much more.
Business analytics is a relatively new term that is gaining popularity in both business and
academic circles like nothing else in recent history. In most general terms, business analytics
is the art and science of discovering insight – by using sophisticated mathematical, statistical,
machine learning, and network science methods along with a variety of data and expert
knowledge – to support better and faster/timely decision-making. Therefore, business
analytics can be thought of as an enabler for decision-making and problem solving.
Determining the evident success of the different tools of business analytics is a big part of the
relevant research papers. In this case, the following subject matters of Business Analytics are
hugely emphasized in the research institutions all around the world:
The strategic decisions around the design and management of information systems.
Forecasting and other applied econometrics are another great subject point revolving
around business analytics. Application areas include financial modeling and
forecasting, educational assessment, antitrust and regulation, and operations
management.
Optimization of data analytics to improve business decisions are another standpoint to
study for research. Researchers focus on how to formulate and solve complex and large-
scale optimization models, building customized software packages and decision
support systems to do so, and incorporating risk management concerns, dynamic
environments, and competition into the decision framework.
Business intelligence deals with high technological applications and devices for business
analysis and decision making and this is configured within business intelligence
dissertation topics. Business Intelligence research subjects comprise of issues ranging from
interpersonal communication skills to analysis of problems so that viable solution can be
delivered. The research subjects fixate on the following matters:
Big Data and meta-fraud- using business intelligence concepts to establish theoretical
links.
Use of business intelligence and exploration of the efficiency achieved in procurement
and logistics.
The role of organizational culture in adoption of business intelligence operations and
its implementation of the relevant systems in the emerging businesses and growing
economies.
Importance of mobile business intelligence systems in shaping the consumer behavior
and ethical considerations.
Scope of BI
The possibilities with data analytics are endless, and to support the development of emerging
technologies, the government passed the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Act in 2010.
Subsequently, the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) was established for creation,
management, operation and development of hi-tech parks across the country. Under the
Support to Development of Kaliakair Hitech Park Project, 4,981 youths have already received
ICT training. Furthermore, the BHTPA has trained around 6,500 youths in different areas of ICT.
Of them, around 4,700 trainees have already got jobs under the employment incentive
program. Under the Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP), a total of 1.25 million
youths will be trained by 2021. It is undeniable that there is a lot of effort from the government
to fill the skills gap, and a steady stream of data scientists and data analysts are being churned
out from training program aided by the government and development partners.
When eGeneration started building the data science team, we struggled to develop talent and
business process to gain real value from analytics. We partnered with academic institutions
and data analytics program to train our team, and today eGeneration is one of the few
companies in Bangladesh to have a sizeable team of skilled data scientists. As data science will
become mainstream and be increasingly adopted by companies in all industries across the
country, challenges of acquiring and benefiting from the scarce talent pool will become more
pertinent. (Ahsan, 2020)
Case on BA & BI
SIEMENS
The Siemens Congleton plant has been consistently ranked as the number one facility among
so many plants in the world- class Siemens | DT MC Group. Though it is not easy but Siemens
Congleton plant makes it look so, even while producing over a million variable-speed drives
annually and responding to fluctuating business demands with the flexibility few smaller
operations master. A vital component of this success is an enterprise portal which allows every
business user (via mobile or web) to access consistent, relevant data. Pyramid is the one
behind this “one-stop shop” – supporting established workflows and providing a reliable view
of operations from executive suites to the manufacturing floor. With Congleton requires a
solution because of its significant number of daily transactions, the amount and velocity of
data so that employees can take data-driven decisions at operational speed demand.
Now, instead of waiting for days to get access to the information, decision makers put their
data to use immediately with advanced analytics, data-rich visualizations, and collaboration
capabilities. As Senior Business Intelligence Developer, Steve Waters, explains, “Decision
makers are now able to analyze the precise areas that interest them, save views of that data
and then share them with colleagues for comments and reactions, or to prompt further
exploration and discovery of trends and exceptions.”
“The combination of Pyramid and Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services provides decision-
makers with increased flexibility, autonomy, and responsiveness.” Access analytics on a
platform through a browser-not on a desktop-bound BI tool-that uses common business
terms, calculations, and processes, which means everyone is making decisions confidently
The Seattle-based coffee chain Starbucks is also a renowned user of BI technology. Through its
popular Loyalty Card program, Starbucks is able to collect individualized purchase data on
millions of customers. Using this information and business intelligence software, the large
coffee company can make predictions what purchases and offers an individual customer is
likely to be interested in. The company informs customers of the offers it believes they will want
to take advantage of via mobile devices. This system lets Starbucks draw existing customers
into its stores more frequently and increase its volume of sales. In this capacity, BI has a use
similar to traditional CRM systems. In fact, many businesses choose to combine BI and CRM
systems to get the most out of their data
Uber’s success in revolutionizing the transportation industry has plenty to do with its brilliant
use of data. using business intelligence and business analytics. Not only it matches passengers
and drivers, but its server calculates the prices based on various data. Factors like distance,
traffic condition, and supply/demand level are considered to set the fare that’s agreeable for
both drivers and users.
Conclusion: In the business world, the significance of IA & BI is growing everyday with the
course of time. In Bangladesh too, these tools have been used in wide spectrum all over the
industries in our country. But the development of these AI are unending so are the possibilities.
So it is really important for the entrepreneurs of our country to always keep the momentum
going for the development of IA and BI.
