Foreword

All praise only to The Almighty God, Creator of the universe, yet His
attention and care is on every single human being. He is our Father in Heaven
in the name of Lord Jesus Christ, in which by His mercy this Student
Engagement Guidebook was able to be completed.
Student Engagement Program (SEP) is UPH’s effort to encourage every
UPH students to be involved in activities outside the class, which was
structurally organized, to uphold Pelita Harapan University graduate profiles
Foreword that are aligned to the vision and mission of UPH. This program was
formulated through various meetings in which the Rectorates, Faculty and
Study Program leaderships, Student Life Department, and Sports Department
are all involved.
The true graduate profile achievement is the collaboration and integration
result between academic activities and non-academic activities, that the
government sees it as LEARNING ACTIVITIES. Therefore, UPH students are
expected to experience of equipping through the various activities that involve
the competency achievement either in the class or outside the class.
02
The early stage of the student activities journey, which is summarized in
the First Year Student Engagement (FYSE) agenda where through it, students
are inspired to equip themselves and motivate them to independently multiply
their self-capacity by wanting to be involved in student activities for the
coming years.
The terms and conditions in this guidebook need to be continuously
evaluated and improved in order to adapt with the current era and its unique
needs. May this book be put to a good use by the students as a guidance in
Foreword the learning activities for their personal growth that will refer to the UPH
graduate profiles only for the glory of God.

Introduction

”Change” is a normality and “Development” is a sign of life. The world of formal education today is
faced with “informal education” from the virtual world that has taught us a lot of things that are contradicting
to the formal education legacy, where it has been well-maintained in the walls of educational institutions.
Today’s generation is bombarded with information explosions with low-credibility resources, in which its
principles are held without going through proper filtration. Change is continuously on the move and
development occur hand in hand with it.
Intro
In the world of campus education today, the “fruits” of value formation in the name of “Nowadays era”
for this generation, has arose with result of decreasing passion of students to be a leader, or being involved duct
in an organization, and low participation in the committee, or other forms of activities that purposely could
equip their soft skills. However, on the other hand, today’s marketplace stakeholders are not really prioritizing ion
the GPA (grade-point average) of academic index of employee candidates, but are looking forward into those
of “complete” graduate profiles with additions of rich in knowledge, softskill and experience, which are
achieved outside the class.
Noticing this matter, Pelita Harapan University as a holistic education institution, with excitement will
rekindled the “file” of engagement and involvement of students to win the competition against the system
that could be categorized as a collateral damage from the digital world development.
07
The Ministry of Education and Culture (KEMENDIKBUD) through the policy of Independent Study
(MERDEKA BELAJAR) and Independent Campus (KAMPUS MERDEKA), has released various guidance on
how to increase the competency of students and graduates, where one of them is through the LEARNING
ACTIVITIES, which is an integrative combination of academic activities (curricular) and non-academic
activities (co-curricular). Previously, the government’s policy on non-academic activities is formed by the
Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education (KEMENRISTEKDIKTI) along with the release of the
LETTER OF ACCOMPANIMENT FOR DIPLOMA (SKPI), which consists of the transcript record of the
student’s non-academic activities. This Letter of Accompaniment will function as a portfolio of each
student, whereas on their turn, will be today’s era employer’s resources to see whether the university
graduate is worthy to be accepted or not in their institutions. Intro
SEP for the first-year students is summarized in First Year Student Engagement (FYSE), with hope
that it could encourage students to improve their soft skill competency that refers to UPH Curriculum
Framework, which acts as an umbrella to all kinds of education in the UPH environment. In UPH, the
duct
academic activities are carried out by the Faculties and Study Programs, the Faculty of Liberal Arts (FLA)
for equipping basic knowledge, and by academic supporting units such as the Research Institutions and
ion
Community Service (LPPM) and the Educational Development and Quality Assurance Institutions (LP2MP).
The Non-academic activities are developed by the Student Life Department, Sports Department, and
Career Center & Company Relation (CCCR) of UPH.

As an effort of encouraging students to be involved in the learning activities in

which the quantification process uses a POINT unit. Engagement Point (EP) is a
tool of motivation to trigger students to be active, involved and increasing the
participation of students in various academic or non-academic activities. This EP
also functions as a track record for the student’s soft skill development data, as
well as a rewarding method for the performance and achievements of student in
carrying out the activities.
