Taste of Meat and Mushrooms

Mushrooms can efficiently act as an earth-meat in a vegetarian diet. Some kinds of

mushrooms tasted like natural meat products, so it is essential to know what kind of mushroom
compliments a dish. According to Escher (2019), The portobello mushrooms have the same
comparable taste to steak or beef since people consume it as a whole "mushroom steak." The
Shiite mushroom taste like pork, duck, or turkey meat since some people incorporates it in
Asian-style soups such as sweet and sour soup that bring out its flavor quality sauté. Lastly, out
of all the edible mushrooms available, Oyster mushrooms have the texture most similar to a
chicken when cooked sensitively. However, one can enjoy a variety of delicious flavors from
oyster mushrooms. It tastes like button mushrooms when enjoyed raw, and when cooked at
very high heat, they tend to be earthy, aromatic, a bit sweet, and sometimes a hint of an anise
flavor. Also, to bring out mushrooms' briny flavor, one can try cooking oyster mushrooms in a
gentle sauté (WHAT DO OYSTER MUSHROOMS TASTE LIKE? 2021).

Comparison of meat and mushroom

Mushrooms, when utilized, might little wonders for a broad scope of dishes. Zet (2021)
states that mushrooms can take center stage in many meatless recipes even though it might
only be a great taste substitute for meat but not as a nutritional substitute since it is not a rich
protein source for meat products. However, these little wonders surpass meat in another scope.
They are rich sources of vitamins, minerals and the only vegetable that contains vitamin D
naturally due to their exposure to sunlight. Moreover, mushrooms add a flavor known as umami
that gives more appetite to increase eating vegetables and decrease meat consumption while
not compromising its meaty savory.

According to Lama, S. (2019), mushrooms are fungi that are similar to plants. It has a
meaty flavor that allows it as a substitute for meat products. Additionally, the mushroom also
has nutrients such as iron, vitamin B12, and vitamin D, typically found in meat. With this, it is
pretty similar to those meat products exempt from protein. Mushroom contains low protein. In
100 grams of oyster mushroom, it has only 7% of the daily value for protein. On the other hand,
in 100 grams, 55%, 57%, 41% of the daily value for protein for pork loin, skirt steak, and
chicken, respectively.

Comparison of beef and mushroom

Beef, a culinary form of meat, is sometimes the main ingredient of burger patty and
siomai. They came from bovines such as cattle, cows, heifers, bulls, or steers (Difference
between Meat and Beef, 2021). Based on 2020 USDA and NIH data, both beef and mushroom
have high potassium. However, beef contains great iron, protein, and more calcium than
mushrooms. Furthermore, while mushroom contains more riboflavin and pantothenic acid, beef
has more Vitamin B6 and B12(Lama, 2019).

A study of thirty-two men and women were assigned to consume twice per day either
sliced mushrooms or 93% lean ground beef. However, the amount provided was in equal
proportion in terms of protein and the number of calories. The mushroom has a lower calorie
density than beef, so the volume of mushrooms provided per serving was much greater(about
226 grams per serving of mushrooms versus 28 grams of beef). After the lapse of ten days, the
participants returned to their regular diet for two weeks and then switched menus for ten days.
Those who tried mushrooms the first time will consume beef after two weeks, and vice versa.
