Course Name: Early Childhood Administration

Description: Analysis of procedures for managing child care operations with emphasis on types in
Nebraska.

II. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Course will


1. Outline general goals that should exist for any child care program.
2. Explain the importance and implications of state licensing standards for child care centers.
3. Illustrate steps involved in setting up a child care program through compilation of a portfolio
that includes: *
a. personal philosophy of education based on all prior education and practicum experiences.
b. director’s role in the child care center.
c. records of health, training and employment for the staff and records of health, attendance,
and fees for the children.
d. public relations materials, including parent handbooks, newsletters, calendars, and
brochures for use in a child care program.
e. staffing needs and documents needed to hire new staff and delegate jobs.
f. budget, including making purchase decisions for facilities, equipment, supplies, insurance
and food. **

III. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Student will be able to


1. State general goals that should exist for any child care program.
2. Describe the importance of state licensing standards for child care centers.
3. Demonstrate steps in setting up a child care program:
a. Develop a personal philosophy of education based on all prior education and practicum
experiences.
b. Identify director’s role in the child care center.
c. Create and keep records of health, training and employment for the staff and records of
health, attendance, and fees for the children.
d. Design public relations materials, including parent handbooks, newsletters, calendars, and
brochures for use in a child care program.
e. Discuss and ascertain staffing needs and prepare documents needed to hire new staff and
delegate jobs.
f. Workshop a budget, including making purchase decisions for facilities, equipment, supplies,
insurance and food.
IV. COURSE CONTENT/TOPICAL OUTLINE
NOTICE: This syllabus sets forth a tentative schedule of class topics and learning activities.
However, the instructor reserves the right to modify this schedule to enhance learning for
students. Any modifications will not substantially change the intent or objectives of this course
and will conform to the policies and guidelines of Northeast Community College.

95 – 100 A+ 70 – 74 C
