1. If you were Joel, how will you handle the complaint presented by Ria?

I have to listen the complaint further and find out the reason why Ria didn’t get the
promotion whether there is a problem in job performance or supervisor’s evaluation. I have
to talk and notify the supervisor and the store manager about this complaint and find the
answer behind the promotions standards. Once I had fully listen to Ria’s complaint and the
Managers explanation, I can think of the valid reason and sort out the discrepancy via their
statement. And more importantly, I have to look for Ria’s employment history and
documentation to find a strong evidence if there is a discrimination happening in the
workplace.
2. As the newly hired HR Officer, how will you avoid this kind of problem in the future? *

As an HR officer I should create a promotion standard and system wherein the employee’s
promotion will be based on the evaluation of their performance. With proper evaluation and
documentation of the employee’s performance, I can ensure that this process is being taken in legal
action which is fair for every employee.

3. What should Joel do now?

The action Joel should do is conduct a performance appraisal. Joel should analyze the situation,
consider Ria’s current performance and find a legal solution.
