MOM Lab Report of 19RAFIA

Rafia Umar submitted an I-beam report for her 4th semester Mom Lab course to Sir. Asim. She performed manual calculations to select an appropriate wide flange I-beam to carry the given load. Using SolidWorks, she modeled the selected I-beam with the applied load and boundary conditions. The analysis showed the moments are zero and the maximum deflection occurs at the beam's center. The minimum safety factor of 0.17 means the I-beam can safely carry the entire load specified in the case study.

CASE STUDY:

A steel beam is subject to a loading and has a cross section as shown

below, Design for an appropriate wide flange I-beam to carry the
load. Use classical equations and design software “SolidWorks” to
justify your working.

 First of all I have done all the manual calculations so that I can choose
a reasonable I beam for the study.
 All of the calculations are given here,
 From all the above calculations I have concluded that wide flange I beam
with S = 688 * 10^3 mm^3.
 After that written analysis I have made an I beam with specific
measurements taken from table.

 Here, is the isometric picture of

my I beam with fixture at one end and roller support at a specific distance.
 After that, material is applied on the beam.
 Unifrom Load at the distance of 1.8m.

 After running the study results are here.

 Maximum deflection occurs at the centre of beam and zero at the edges of
beams.
FACTOR OF SAFETY:

Maximum factor of safety is 2143 and minimum is 0.17 and my whole I beam is at
the minimum value means it can carry the whole above load given in the case
study.
And from the overall analysis I can conclude that my selected I beam can carry the
load with best results.
