The Chocolate Library

The history of chocolate begins in Mesoamerica. Chocolate, the fermented,
roasted, and ground beans of the Theobroma cacao, can be traced to the Mokaya
and other pre-Olmec people, with evidence of chocolate beverages dating back to
1900 BC. The Aztecs believed that cacao seeds were the gift of Quetzalcoatl, the God
of wisdom, and the seeds had so much value they were used as a form of currency.
Originally prepared only as a drink, chocolate was served as a bitter, frothy liquid,
mixed with spices, wine or corn puree. It was believed to have aphrodisiac powers
and to give the drinker strength. After its arrival in Spain in the sixteenth century,
sugar was added to it and it became popular through Europe, first among the ruling
classes and then among the common people. In the 20 th century, chocolate was
considered a staple, essential in the rations of United States soldiers at war. The
word “chocolate” comes from the Classical Nahuatl word chocolātl, and entered the
English language from Spanish. The new craze for chocolate brought with it a thriving
slave market, as between the early 17th and late 19th centuries the laborious and slow
processing of the cacao bean was manual. Cacao plantations spread, as the English,
Dutch, and French colonized and planted. With the depletion of Mesoamerican
workers, largely to disease, cacao production has been often the work of poor wage
laborers and African slaves. Wind-powered and horse-drawn mills were utilized to
speed production. Chocolate remained a treat for the elite and the wealthy until the
arrival of the Industrial Revolution brought steam-powered engines to speed the
processing of the bean. The first steam-driven chocolate mill was created by a French
inventor named Debuisson in the early 18th century.

The Chocolate Library, was founded in 2012 by design and publishing expert
Erica Biscocho. "I love shopping online and think chocolate and books make brilliant
gifts, but when I'm looking online I find the sheer volume of products can quickly
become overwhelming.
The idea behind The Chocolate Library is to be a peaceful place to browse in
comfort - a bit like a library. We have reviewed every product and summarized it in a
nutshell so you can read in one sentence why we think it makes a good gift. We also
suggest who we think it suits and who not to give it to.

There are literally millions of products out there. We hope to make a little
sense of it all and help you find what you're looking for. The Chocolate Library is very
much a labor of love that is constantly evolving. Chocolate and books - what's not to
love about that!"

FINANCIAL and their Qualifications
PRODUCTION MARKETING SUPERVISOR

Manager – Looking for a formidable manager is not easy as you think it is. In order to
be hired as the manager of a certain business. You need to pass these qualifications:
First, you are required to have degrees, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Depending on their position, business managers take courses in management,
economics, math, marketing research, human relations and interpersonal
communication to better hone their skills in managing people. Essentially, business
managers learn various management techniques in college through instruction,
presentations and role-playing before they can get a business management position.

Assistant Manager – Next to manager is of course the assistant manager. An

assistant manager works with a head manager and performs a number of
supervisory duties. The position requires leadership ability and good people skills,
the ability to communicate well and the knowledge and experience to take initiative.
An assistant manager must have a strong attention to detail and be able to
effectively take direction from an immediate supervisor. Leadership Skills; Ability to
Follow Directions; Responsibility; Likability; and Decision-Making Capability are the
top 5 qualities that an assistant manager must have.

Chief Financial Officer – The requirements for becoming a CFO may vary
considerably based upon the type of organization where the position is sought.
Generally, most candidates will have a bachelor's or master's degree in business
administration, finance or economics, although some may carry degrees in liberal
arts or a job-specific field of study. For instance, many in medical or public sector
professions may have degrees specific to their original occupations and later receive
additional training toward the tasks of a chief financial officer. Likewise, the CFOs
within the educational workforce typically possess a doctorate degree in educational
administration. Within some industry organizations, such as manufacturing, retail or
transportation, the possibility may exist for a lower level executive who does not
possess a college degree to be promoted into the CFO position. In these cases,
candidates will possess extensive experience and training within a company, as well
as progressive advancement and increased responsibility over the financial decision-
making process. Chief financial officers generally must possess strong analytical and
communication skills to both understand complicated financial data and effectively
explain the ramifications of that data to the workers they oversee. CFOs must also
maintain vital leadership skills, such as determination, decisiveness, accountability
and self-confidence, and be able to encourage these traits in others.

Production Supervisor- Some employers may require an associate’s or bachelor’s

degree for the position, but according to ONet Online, many manufacturing
companies only require a high school diploma for production supervisor positions.
Individuals planning to advance to a production management position may obtain a
business management degree to improve opportunities. Production workers may
complete business courses while gaining experience in the company to increase
opportunities for a supervisor or manager position. According to the U.S. Bureau of
Labor Statistics, industrial production managers usually have a minimum of a
bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or business administration. Larger
production companies may prefer managers with a graduate degree in business
administration. Experience, Skills and Certificates are also qualified.

Marketing Director- According to O*Net, the majority of professional marketing

managers surveyed, including marketing directors, have a bachelor's degree
(www.onetonline.org). Coursework is business-intensive and introduces students to
concepts, in business law, ethics, finance and statistics. Advanced courses might
explore consumer behavior, international marketing, communications and market
research. Students also might participate in group projects in which they develop
plans and implement a marketing campaign. Students also might consider earning a
Master of Science in Marketing or a Master of Business Administration in Marketing.
Variations in these degrees, like a Master of Science in Integrated Marketing, are
available as well. These programs provide students with an advanced marketing and
business education and culminate in a written thesis or project. Aspiring marketing
directors generally start out in an entry-level position in marketing. Duties might
include compiling product descriptions, assisting more experienced employees with
product promotions and executing marketing services. As new hires gain experience,
they might be promoted to more challenging roles, such as account manager, where
they manage one or more client accounts.

Supervisor- Achievement of the qualification shows competence has been

demonstrated by the learner to supervise personnel and activities associated with
sustainable waste management activities. The qualification is designed to give
flexibility associated with the range of supervisory roles as employment requires and
is therefore determined by the units selected. The qualification is assessed ‘on-the-
job’ which may include working on public highways or other areas accessible by the
public or other persons. The structure of the qualification includes some Units which
are specified in other similar WAMITAB waste management qualifications. This
provides an ideal progression opportunity for learners to achieve further
qualifications or specific units to match future employment requirements by building
on the units and credits achieved here. The qualification provides progression
opportunities by utilizing units that are common to other waste management QCF
qualifications. Achievement of this qualification can lead to management and
professional qualifications as determined by industry needs and higher education
opportunities appropriate to the sector.
