2.1 Ethernet Adapter Configuration of the GOMU Board

This topic describes the Ethernet adapter configuration of the GOMU board in the process of
installing the GOMU operating system.

Ethernet Adapter Configuration in Single-Server Mode

One BSC is configured with one GOMU board. There are six Ethernet adapters in total on the
GOMU board. The ETH0, ETH1, and ETH2 are configured on the three Ethernet adapter ports
on the GOMU panel. The ETH3-UPDATE, ETH4-SCU7, and ETH5-SCU6 are configured on
the three Ethernet adapter ports on the GOMU backplane. After the Ethernet adapter teaming,
the Ethernet adapters on the GOMU board are as follows:
l The ETH0 and ETH1 are teamed as the external Ethernet adapter team bond1 of active/
standby switchover. The bond1 communicates between the GOMU board and O&M system
(LMT and M2000).
NOTE
After installing the OMU software, run the omuctrl cfg command to configure the IP address of the
external Ethernet adapter team.
l The IP address and subnet mask of the ETH2 are \\192.168.1.1 and \\255.255.255.0
respectively.
l The ETH4-SCU7 and ETH5-SCU6 are teamed as the internal Ethernet adapter team bond0
of active/standby switchover. The GOMU LOCAL and GOMU CORE of the GOMU board
applies the bond0.

Ethernet Adapter Configuration in Dual-Server Mode

One BSC is configured with two GOMU boards. There are six Ethernet adapters on both the
active and standby GOMU boards. The ETH0, ETH1, and ETH2 are configured on the three
Ethernet adapter ports on the GOMU panel. The ETH3-UPDATE, ETH4-SCU7, and ETH5-
SCU6 are configured on the three Ethernet adapter ports on the GOMU backplane. After the
Ethernet adapter teaming, the Ethernet adapters on the GOMU board are as follows:
The IP address configurations of the active GOMU board are as follows:
l The ETH0 and ETH1 are teamed as the external Ethernet adapter team bond1 of active/
standby switchover. The bond1 communicates between the GOMU board and O&M system
(LMT and M2000).
NOTE
After installing the OMU software, run the omuctrl cfg command to configure the IP address of the
external Ethernet adapter team.
l The IP address and subnet mask of the ETH2 are \\192.168.1.1 and \\255.255.255.0
respectively.
l The ETH3-UPDATE is used for the data synchronization between the active and standby
GOMU boards and for the update of the active and standby OMU software.
l The ETH4-SCU7 and ETH5-SCU6 are teamed as the internal Ethernet adapter team bond0
of active/standby switchover. The GOMU LOCAL and GOMU CORE of the GOMU board
applies the bond0.
The IP address configuration of the standby GOMU board is similar to that of the active GOMU
board.

2.3 Data Synchronization Between Active and Standby

GOMU Boards
This topic describes the data synchronization between active and standby GOMU boards. When
the GOMU board is working in dual-server mode, the standby GOMU board automatically
synchronizes the data of the active GOMU board.
The data of the GOMU board is dynamic. It is changing when the BSC is running. Therefore,
when the data of the active GOMU board changes, the changed data needs to be delivered to the
standby GOMU board to ensure that no data is lost after the active and standby GOMU boards
are switched over. Thus the standby GOMU board can replace the active GOMU board.
The data synchronization is the synchronization of the dynamic data files. These data files consist
of the data configuration file, performance and measurement file, procedure file, and License
file.

2.4 Heartbeat Test on Active/Standby GOMU Boards

This topic describes the heartbeat test on active/standby GOMU boards in dual-server mode.
The active/standby GOMU boards perform the heartbeat test function to ensure the normal state
of active/standby GOMU boards.
The heartbeat indicates the information signal delivered between the active and standby GOMU
boards. It is the no-response message. In dual-server mode, the active and standby GOMU boards
send the heartbeat message to each other to show the active/standby GOMU boards and the
network connection are normal.
There are two heartbeat channels between active and standby GOMU boards: internal network
channel and backup channel.
l If the active GOMU board can receive the heartbeat message from the standby GOMU
board regularly through the two heartbeat channels. it shows that the active and standby
GOMU boards communicate normally, and the GOMU boards communicate with the
external network normally.
l If the active/standby GOMU boards do not receive the heartbeat message from each other
through any heartbeat channel in five seconds, it indicates that the heartbeat channel is
disconnected. The active GOMU board reports the alarm.
l If the two heartbeat channels are disconnected for over five seconds, and the internal and
external network of the standby GOMU board communicate normally, the standby GOMU
board automatically switches over to the the active GOMU board.

2.5 Switchover Between Active/Standby GOMU Boards

This topic describes the switchover between active/standby GOMU boards when the GOMU
board is working in dual-server mode. There are two switchover ways: manual switchover and
automatic switchover.

Issue 01 (2007-09-21) Huawei Technologies Proprietary 2-5

HUAWEI BSC6000 Base Station Controller
2 Working Principles of the GOMU Board BSC GOMU Administration Guide

NOTE

l The switchover between the active and standby GOMU boards takes about two to three minutes. The
data synchronization after the switchover takes about 30 to 50 minutes.
l The communication between the O&M system and BSC is disrupted about two to three minutes in the
process of the active/standby GOMU board switchover.

Manual Swtichover
When the GOMU board is working in dual-server mode, and the data synchronization between
the active/standby GOMU boards is normal, the GOMU board can be forced to be switched over
manually according to the actual situation. After the manual switchover, the standby GOMU
board is switched over to the active GOMU board, and the active GOMU board is switched over
to the standby GOMU board.

Automatic Switchover
When the GOMU board is working normally in dual-server mode, only the active GOMU board
is running. The standby GOMU board is monitoring the active GOMU board. When the active
GOMU board is faulty, and the time duration is over one minute, the standby GOMU board
automatically switches over to the active GOMU board. When the active GOMU fault is cleared,
the standby GOMU board restored to its original state. If the active GOMU board fault is cleared
within one minute, the switchover does not occur.
