Question # 5: (10 Marks)
Answer the following questions.
a) Write the command for internetwork shown fig#05 such that no rip updates exchange between
Router MALIR and DEFENCE but all other routers can exchange the updates.

b) Briefly explain with solid reason why RIP cannot perform unequal load balancing?
Answer
RIP is a distance-vector routing protocol that uses router hop count as the metric. RIP
is a classful routing protocol that does not support VLSMs or CID. RIP does NOT
support unequal cost load balancing, and does not take the bandwidth of the link into
consideration, so this is the usual effect. In some cases, it might be desirable for the
network administrator to increase the metric of the slower link, so as to force the
router to prefer the better link, but this means all the traffic would pass through just
one link.
c) Why RIP 1 cannot advertise the subnet of network also explain how it manages to forward the
packets without subnet information discus all possible methods.
d) Perform the route summarization of all networks mentioned in the topology of fig#6

e) Why we need Extension of IGRP and discus chief disadvantages due to which IGRP is
extended to EIGRP.
Answer
IGRP (Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) and EIGRP (Enhanced EIGRP) are the two routing
protocols used in routing operations. The IGRP is a distance vector interior gateway routing
protocols, but the EIGRP incorporates the features of the link state routing with the distance
vector routing protocol. There are several differences between the IGRP and EIGRP, priorly
IGRP employs a classful routing method while EIGRP is a classless routing protocol. EIGRP
provides better support for the vast scale network as compared to IGRP.
The biggest drawback of IGRP (and EIGRP) is that it’s a proprietary protocol, which means it is
implemented only by Cisco routers. If all you have on your network are Cisco devices, using
IGRP is not a problem.
