Headquarters:
Mumbai.
Owner: Arnab
Goswami, Asianet
News.
Slogan: Rashtra Ke Naam (In the name of
the nation).

Republic has broken the norms of traditional newsrooms and
journalistic set ups. As the digital wing of Republic TV,
RepublicWorld.com is a platform built for the next generation
of news. Seeped in hard-hitting opinion and wound with
interactive news content and formats, Republic World follows
the principle of breaking the news and breaking the silence.
R. Bharat, officially Republic Bharat is an Indian right-wing
Hindi-language news channel, launched on 2 February 2019.
Arnab Goswami is the owner and Editor-in-chief of Republic
Bharat TV. It is also available on DD Free Dish. It is a sister
channel of Republic TV which broadcasts news primarily in
English. Republic Bharat was officially launched on 2
February 2019 with slogan 'Rashtra Ke Naam'. In March 2020,
Republic Bharat entered into the top 3 news channels in the
genre. In April 2020, it was reported that Republic Bharat
leaped to the number 1 viewership spot. In April 2020, it was
reported that Arnab Goswami's own Hindi show ‘Poochta
Hain Bharat, Arnab ke Saath’ became the number one Hindi
news show in its slot. Arnab Goswami resigned as editor-in-
chief of Times Now on 1 November 2016, citing editorial
differences, lack of freedom and newsroom politics.
Republic Media Network plans to launch news channels in all
major Indian languages, and will expand its news operations
globally. As of 2 October 2020, according to BARC, Republic
Bharat has the highest TV viewership among all Hindi news
channels of India with 206861K weekly impressions. Republic
Bharat launched in the United Kingdom through the Sky

15
platform on August 15. The channel is available on channel
number 708. Republic Bharat has a separate UK beam with
locally curated programs and events. in May 2020, Republic
Bharat topped with a share of 0.04% of UK TV viewership in
the Indian news genre. Republic Bharat's strongest time band
has emerged to be between 21:00 and midnight in the UK.
Republic TV was hyped as India's first independent media
outlet which would 'democratize' news and compete with
global media giants whilst being unabashedly pro-India.
After the launch of the channel, the Telecom Regulatory
Authority of India (TRAI) received three complaints against
the channel alleging that the channel was violating TRAI's
broadcast sector regulations. The complaint was filed by TV
Today network which owns Aaj Tak, India TV and TV18.
According to the complaint, Republic Bharat had declared its
genre as Hindi news, but it was being added in additional
genres. This was seen as a deliberate attempt to illegally
garner higher BARC ratings and increase viewership.
In 2020 Mumbai Police initiated an investigation into the TRP
manipulation scam of the channel after a complaint was filed
that some channels were fraudulently inflating their
viewership ratings. The police conducted an audit into the
accounts of the ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd accounts. It
showed that the TRPs (TV rating points) and viewership of
Republic Bharat, were high from the first month of its launch
in 2016.

16
Republic Bharat, the Hindi news channel arm of Republic TV,
was fined 20,000 pounds (approximately Rs 19.73 lakh) by
the United Kingdom’s communications regulator Office of
Communications on 22 December 2020 for broadcasting
content that involved "offensive language", "hate speech" and
"abusive or derogatory treatment of individuals, groups,
religions or communities". Republic Bharat has also been
asked to air an apology on the channel. Between 26 February
and 9 April, the channel had broadcast an apology in Hindi
and English 280 times, at all hours of the day.
Republic Bharat have two sisters’ channel: Republic TV,
Republic Bangla.

India TV:
Launched: 20 May,
2004.
Headquarters: Noida,
Uttar Pradesh.
20
Owner: Rajat Sharma.
Website: indiatv.in, indiatvnews.com.
Slogan: आप की आवाज (Voice of the
people).

India TV is a Hindi news channel based in Noida, Uttar

Pradesh, India. The channel was launched on 20 May 2004
by Rajat Sharma and wife Ritu Dhawan. The channel is a
subsidiary of Independent News Service, which was co-
founded by Sharma and Dhawan in 1997. In 1997, Rajat
Sharma and Ritu Dhawan set up Independent News Service
(INS), the parent company which owns India TV. He co-
founded India TV with his wife in April, 2004 from a studio in
Film City, Noida, India TV. Its Broadcast Centre is in Sector
85, Noida, UP, India. Prior to launching India TV, Rajat
Sharma was a previously the anchor of Aap Ki Adalat on Zee
News and Janata Ki Adalat on Star News. India's longest-
running Television show Aap Ki Adalat in India TV has
completed 27 years of its existence in 2020.
The rise of India TV as India's leading news channel within a
short span of its existence owes a lot to the vision of its
chairman and editor-in-chief Rajat Sharma and the dedication
and toil of its ever-growing team of bright news TV
professionals. In a short period, India TV has created
benchmarks in innovation, impact, ratings, time spends, and
21
viewer-support. Indeed, India TV's newsbreaks have inspired
talk shows on rival channels, Bollywood films, BBC
documentaries and articles in Time Magazine, even Amul
hoardings. In today's rampant me-too-ism, India TV is,
perhaps, the only Hindi news channel that is perceived as
"courageous" and "different."
The channel's No.1 position is no accident. It is the result of
Mr. Sharma leading the way on the lonely path of "credibility
first." It is the result of the efforts of a self-made man who kept
both his feet firmly on the ground, a journalist for whom the
viewer's interest has been paramount. Today Mr. Sharma's
editorial decision-making reaches out to an audience of 90
million C&S homes. The human resource of India TV resides
among loyal viewers and 500 staffers. INS has investment
from ComVentures, a top Silicon Valley venture fund, and a
leading private equity entity. The enterprise value of INS
which crossed Rs 500 crore in January, 2008 has been rising
by leaps and bounds. India TV has state-of-the-art digital
connectivity and its Broadcast Centre covers an area of more
than 1,28,000 square feet in Sector 85, Noida.
Aap Ki Adalat is an Indian
television show that is hosted
by Padma Bhushan journalist
Rajat Sharma. The show
began in 1993, was broadcast
on the television channel Zee
TV until 2004, moved on from

22
Zee News in 2004, and now airs on India TV. Aap Ki Adalat is
India's longest-running and by far the strongest running show
on Indian television, attracting millions of viewers. In 2014, it
celebrates its 21st anniversary at Pragati Maidan in New
Delhi.
India TV's flagship prime time
news and analysis show Aaj Ki
Baat needs no introduction. The
one-hour show is hosted by Mr.
Rajat Sharma, inarguably the
biggest news anchor India has
ever produced. The show deals
with the biggest stories of the
day followed by a detailed
analysis of trending topics. Mr.
Sharma, the most credible and
gentle face of the news
industry, brings exclusive and
inside accounts on every development, thus impacting the
lives of over 1 billion people in the country.

February, 1998.

23
Headquarters: Sector 60, Noida.
Owner: ABP Group.
Website: www.abplive.com.
Slogan: Aapko Rakhe Aage.

ABP News is an Indian Hindi news channel owned by ABP

Group. It is a free to air TV channel founded in 1998. It was
formerly known as STAR News before being acquired by ABP
Group. ABP Live is an Indian English news website owned by
ABP Network. STAR News was launched on 18 February
1998. From 2003, STAR News became a complete channel.
It was the first bilingual (English – Hindi) news service and
was initially run by STAR India on its own with NDTV doing
the production until 2003. When the agreement with the
NDTV expired in 2003, STAR News was transformed into a
complete Hindi language news channel, part of the STAR and
ABP tie up. In 2003, the contract with NDTV ended and STAR
decided to run the channel on its own. STAR then entered
into a joint venture with the Ananda Bazar Patrika group to
form a company called Media Content and Communications
Services Pvt. Ltd. (MCCS) which ran the channel STAR
News. On 16 April 2012, Anandabazar Patrika (ABP) Group
announced that they would part ways, with the split, the eight-
year affiliation with the 'Star' brand came to an end. Media
Content and Communications (MCCS), the company that
24
owned and operated the news channels, said that after the
split, Hindi news channel Star News would be named ABP
News, Bengali news channel Star Ananda would become
ABP Ananda and the Marathi news channel Star Majha would
be called ABP Majha. A Punjabi-language version of the
channel called ABP Sanjha is popular with northern Punjabi
audiences. A Gujarati-language version called ABP Asmita
was launched on 1 January 2016.
ABP Network has pioneered the way news is disseminated in
India in Indian languages. ABP Network also has a
considerable presence on digital platforms with news
websites in Hindi, Marathi, Bangla, Gujarati, Punjabi, besides
platforms about Cricket & Bollywood.
Punya Prasun Bajpai began hosting Masterstroke on ABP
News in April, but he resigned four months later on August 1,
2018, due to alleged political pressure on the news channel.
In July 2018, the channel elicited criticism from the
government for its story about a video interaction on June 20,
2018, between Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and
beneficiaries of various government programmes. A
participant from Chhattisgarh, Chandramani Kaushik, told
Modi on the show that her income had doubled after she
switched from cultivating paddy to growing custard apples.
Two weeks later, based on reports from ABP News journalists
who later visited Kaushik to verify the
claim, Masterstroke revealed that she had been tutored by
BJP officials to make false claims. Following this, ABP News'
satellite link started misbehaving during the airing of Bajpai's

25
show. In an article written by Bajpai for The Wire, he claims
that some advertisers, including Patanjali, withdrew their
advertisements from the channel. Another Prime time show of
ABP are Rajneeti With Rajkishor.
As quarantine streaming continues to impact viewership
patterns across genres, ABP News, has come up with a fresh
line-up of shows, in a pursuit to revamp its content offerings.
ABP News is revamping its day-time content line-up, with
non-stop riveting 6 shows over the weekdays, ABP News is
airing ABP Reporter – a reporter-led show wherein reporters
set the agenda of every-day news; Newsgram – a unique
show covering 4 major stories of the day with an in-depth
analysis from the reporters; Panchnama – a deliberation on
top news stories amongst 5 panellists/experts and 4 news
anchors; Matrubhoomi – a show that presents news of
national importance, and anything that concerns the viewers
directly or indirectly; and Reality Report – a show beaming
mesmerising clips from much-anticipated reality shows. Apart
from these new offerings, ABP News is adding great value to
its popular ongoing show, ‘Saas Bahu Aur Saazish’, in a
special collaboration with Star Plus. Through this alliance,
ABP News will be bringing exclusive content to its viewers,
integrating the best of news & entertainment.

popularity of the channel amongst advertisers continues
unabated and the revenue figures for the current year (04-05)
have already crossed Rs. 10 crores. The main reason for this

channels that are pay channels. India's public service
broadcaster Doordarshan benefitted immensely from DD
News's launch, as its in-house production churned out much
quality content, achieving economies of scale. DD News also
carries financial information about stocks and commodities,
accessing information from the National Stock Exchange of

addition to leading commodity exchanges including the
National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) and
the MCX Stock Exchange.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley on 7 May
2015 launched a mobile application of DD News and said the
audience was extremely keen to have a comprehensive view
of issues and events. "The application will provide DD News a
platform to instantly communicate news on a 24×7 basis and
it has added a new dimension to its profile," he said, adding
that the application will address the needs of viewers who
sought information through the mobile phone.
In January 2019, Prasar Bharati Converted it into Complete
