Design Considerations:
A loft apartment has become a trend today and being adapted into living in urbanized
areas, as well as in rural ones. This type of design utilizes space in a different level, avoiding
the traditional walled space designs. The uniqueness of the loft apartment should lie in the
creation of four different levels that contain a space for each function without the use of walls
except for bath. Spaces ae interconnected, at least partially. The proposal should also consider
green building systems/innovation in developing a concept. Green building solutions shall
include but is not limited to:
Chosen site shall be from any existing structures and should be accessible via major
public transportation routes. The project design approach should provide users an
environment with distinct architecture, efficient space planning and functional space
distribution.
The proposed loft apartment design, which site comes form an existing establishment,
also considers the following:

Green Roofs
Green roofs are the latest trends today and is spreading faster around the globe. It
has been used in private residences, schools, cultural and business institutions. This
innovation is getting used and integrated into architectural structures due to its many
environmental benefits. The Green roof accommodates variety of herbs, grasses, flowers
of any kinds, herbs, and many more. With its great benefits, this type of design solution
can bring natural beauty to urban buildings and rural structures to their surroundings. It
can absorb carbon dioxide, reduce stormwater runoff, insulate the interior of the building
by reducing heat absorption, and it can provide shelter and habitat for insects, birds, and
other exotic wildlife (as such habitat destruction of wildlife goes severe each decade).
The Watermill Residence was design for summer and weekend retreat, by Architect
Andrew Berman. It consists of a single-story guest wing and garage, with a roof supporting
expansive campus and a research and civil engineering center for the Pôle Scientifique et

Energy and Architecture goes hand in hand. Architects design houses with considerations
Solar roofs are the latest trends today when it comes to self-supporting and self-
generating electrical energy for usage in the homes. With this design, the house can generate itself
electricity for all the appliances. With this, paying electricity bills will not be needed anymore.
Solar Energy is by far, the best renewable energy source of today. Once used only for
space stations, now it is integrated into different establishments and or laboratories. The sun emits
an enormous amount of energy each day and is readily available every day. With this very
inexhaustible source of electricity, and is far safer than power plants, which generate toxic
Bamboo Plywood
The rapid degradation of wild forests has been associated by the big demand of
hardwood, which is used for variety of architectural and structural needs. Resources of hardwood is
mainly the wood that comes from the trees of wild forests. To address this problem, designers has
abundant in most parts of a forest. It grows fast to its full maturity in four to six years while it takes
a tree decades or even hundreds of years. In a span of a few years, it can be already harvested, so
Bamboo is strong and durable. Bamboo ply is stronger and harder than most hardwoods.
Its tensile strength goes up to 28 000 per square inch while steel tensile strength only reaches 23
000 per square inch. It is also 25 per cent harder than Red Oak, 12 per cent harder than North
American Maple, and has 50 per cent less expansion or contraction than Red Oak.
Bamboo is flexible in design. It can be cut, nailed, screwed and plugged using
woodworking equipment. Its color can also be altered to give a more satisfactory finish. Sydney-
based bamboo plywood specialists, Plywood & Plastics offer a natural coffee color finish and other
variety of grain types. This flexibility of bamboo in different areas of construction and design saves
Water has become scarce in areas of the world, and its scarcity is affecting the world.

has become scarce and there is a need to conserve it. Using rainwater as means for other purposes,
The Bilboa Arena, in Spain, was design by architects ACXT / Javier Pérez Uribarri y
Nicolás Espinosa Barrientos . This arena has a special design which collects and stores rainwater.
As described by Archdaily, “the cover sports is a vegetable, green, an indoor cistern that stores

Climate Tile Designed to Catch and Redirect Excess Rainwater from Climate Change
The Climate Tile is a pilot venture intended to get and divert 30% of the anticipated
additional water coming because of environmental change. Made by THIRD NATURE with IBF
and ACO Nordic, the task will be initiated on a 50m asphalt stretch at Nørrebro in Copenhagen.
The principal walkway was made as an imaginative atmosphere venture that uses the Climate Tile

The design concept that is proposed is a Filipino Minimalist Modern Loft. The design
is a Filipino style. This is to make Filipino architectural art be the subject for modern architecture
instead of using foreign architectural design; to promote the Filipino Architecture. The Filipino
architecture design is integrated into modern minimalist style, which is to combine the two art and
The design concept aims for green building solutions. The modern architecture relies so
much on modern supplies, such as hardwood for floorings or other fixtures, tiles, etc., which are very
expensive and contributes highly to the degradation of the natural resources. The proposed design aims
to solve the problem using the approved indigenous resources, such as bamboo plywood. The Filipino
architecture is a way to reduce environmental degradation of wild forests, and a way to use fast
The minimalist style of the design makes the loft apartment good to the eyes. The
lessening of the use of superfluous architectural concepts makes the establishment pleasing to the eyes,
and non-destructive. It gives it a comfortable feeling and cool effect to the person living.
