CONTENT STANDARD 5.1 Light Travel In Straight Line.
LEARNING STANDARD: 5.1.1 State that light travels in a straight line by carrying out activities
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Pupils are able to :
1. State that light travels in a straight line.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to state that light travels in a straight line correctly.
TEACHING ACTIVITIES : : Activity 1 1. All pupils were asked to put their hands on the table and raise their hands slowly. (If the classroom is dark,
pupils are required to switch on the light)
2. The pupils will make observations about the shape that forms on their table.
3. Pupils answer will be linked to the investigation that will take place today.

: Activity 2 1. Pupils will be in their groups to conduct investigations. (Let’s test page 89)
2. Each group will be given a torch, 3 cardboard with a slit, black cardboard (screen) and wooden block.
3. Pupils are required to arrange the cardboard with slits and the screen as shown in the picture.
4. After that, pupils switch on the torc and observe the screen.
5. Pupils adjust the arrangement of the cardboards with slits until a light is formed on the screen.
6. Observation will be recorded in the experiment report sheet on how light works
: Activity 3 1. Pupils answer the exercise about the topic given in the science practical book.

CONTENT STANDARD 5.1 Light Travel In Straight Line.
LEARNING STANDARD: 5.1.2 Compare and contrast the shadows formed when light is blocked by transparent, translucent and opaques objects by
carrying out activities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Pupils are able to :
1. Compare and contrast the shadows formed when light is blocked by transparent, translucent and opaques objects by carrying out activities.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to explain the shadows formed when light is bockeed by transparent, translucent and opaque object by carrying out
activities correctly.
TEACHING ACTIVITIES : : Activity 1 1. Pupils are divided into 5 groups. Each group will be given torch, clear plastic, coloured plastic, manila card,
adhesive tape, scissors, popsicle sticks and white paper. (TB page 90)
2. Each group need to draw a butterfly shape on the clear plastic, coloured plastic and manila card. Then,
they tape a popsicle stick to each piece.
3. Pupils direct the torch towards a butterfly-shaped manila card and observed the shadow formed.
4. Step 3 is repeated by using coloured plastic and clear plastic of the butterfly shape.
5. Pupils observe and record the clarity of the shadows formed in a table as shown in the book.
: Activity 2 1. Pupils answer the exercise about the topic given in the science practical book.

CONTENT STANDARD 5.1 Light Travels in a Straight Line
LEARNING STANDARD: 5.1.3 Carry out experiment to determine the factors that affect the size and shape of the shadows.
5.1.4 Explain the observations that light travels in a straight line through written or verbal forms, sketches or ICT in a creative
way.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Pupils are able to :
1. Conclude the factors that affect the size and shape of the shadow.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to state 3 factors that affect the size and shape of the shadow.
TEACHING ACTIVITIES : : Activity 1 1. The pupils were divided into 5 groups to conduct investigation 1.
2. Each group will be given a torch, screen, adhesive tape and a model of tree.
3. The pupils will set the distance of the tree with the screen being 20 meter. The position will be marked with
coloured adhesive tape.
4. The size of the resulting shadow is observed.
5. Pupils are challenged to dind out how to minimize the size of the shadow without changing the position of
the object.
6. Successful groups will find a way to demonstrate their experimental results.
7. Observation will be recorded in the experimental report sheet.
: Activity 2 1. Pupils sit in the same group to conduct investigation 2
2. Each group will be given with a torch, coloured adhesive tape, screen and teapot.
3. The pupil will maintain the distance of the object (teapot) with the light source (torch).
4. The 3 position will be marked with coloured adhesive tape at the same distance.
5. A member of the group will be in positions 1,2 and 3 to direct the torch to the object.
6. The shadow formed on the screen will be recorded in the observation table.
: Activity 3 1. Pupils will complete the full report on experiment 1 and 2 before submitting to the teacher.

LEARNING STANDARD: 5.2.1 State that light can be reflected by carrying out activities
5.2.2 Describe the uses of light in daily life
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Pupils are able to :
1. State the light can be reflected.
2. Give examples of situations in daily life that shows light can be reflected
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to state the light can be reflected by carrying out activities.
2. Pupils will be able to explain 3 the uses of light in daily life correctly
TEACHING ACTIVITIES : : Activity 1 1. One pupil will hold a tennis ball and bounce the ball to a friend.
2. The pupils will respond to the teacher’s question, “Can the light be reflected back like a ball?”
3. To find out about his, pupils will conduct an investigation of the reflection of light.
: Activity 2 1. Pupils are divided into 5 group. Each group will bi given 2 face mirrors, 1 metal spoon, 1 tin lid, watch
and string. (Let’s Test TB page 95)
2. Pupils need to hang a face mirror outside the classroom with a string.
3. One pupils hold the metal spoon towards the sunlight and adjust it so that light is formed on the face mirror.
4. Each group need to observe what happens.
5. Step 3 is repeated by replacing the metal spoon with the watch, tin lid and face mirror.
: Activity 3 1. Pupils sitting in the same group to play the game “Try to guess who I am?”
2. Representatives of each group will be given a mirror and sit in the space provided in front of and behind the
screen.
3. Pupils need to read the riddle statement and pupils are required to read it in a mirror without looking ahead
and answering the question as soon as possible.
4. Each member of the group will take turns answering the question.
5. 2 points will be given to the group that answer correctly and quickly.
6. Pupils will be given a bubble map to complete with the application of the principle of reflection in everyday
life. (refer TB page 97)

5.2.4 Explain the observations of reflection of light through written or verbal forms, sketches or ICT in acreative way
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Pupils are able to :
1. Sketch a ray diagram to show reflection of light from a mirror.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to sketch one ray diagram to show the reflection of light from a mirrir correctly.
TEACHING ACTIVITIES : : Activity 1 1. Pupils were divided into 5 groups to conduct the investigation. Each group will be given. (TB page 99)
2. Each group will be given a mirror, black box with a slit, white paper, torch, wooden block and ruler.
3. Pupils place the white paper on the bottom of the box and arrange the mirror.
4. Pupils direct the torchlight through the slit on the box towards the mirror.
5. After that, pupils observe the light reflected from the mirror and draw the light ray on the white paper using
a ruler.
6. Pupils remove the white paper and label their own drawing.
: Activity 2 1. Each pupil will create a bookmark of the rays diagram in the group.
2. Each group will be provided with a manila card, hole puncher, coloured paper and ribbon.
3. Each group was given 20 minutes to produce the bookmark.
4. The best bookmarks from each group will be sent to the teacher for evaluation and sale during the
exhibition.

LEARNING STANDARD: 5.3.1 State that light can be refracted, through observation using various media.
5.3.2 Explain through examples that light can refracted by carrying out activities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Pupils are able to :
1. State that light can be refracted.
2. Give examples of situations in daily life that show that light can refracted.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to ctate that light can be refracted.
2. Pupils will be to give 3 examples of phenomena that show that light can refracted.
TEACHING ACTIVITIES : : Activity 1 1. Pupils will respond to the challenge of bending the straw without using the hand in group for 5 minutes. (Group
Challenge)
2. The successful group will show demonstrations of bending straw without hands.
3. If no group is able to show it, each group will be given a glass of water and put the straw in the water and observe the straw.
4. Pupils observations of straw will be linked with the refraction of light topic.
: Activity 2 1. Pupils sit in their groups to conduct investigations.
2. Each station will be equipped with the following tools and materials along with a card instruction
Station 1 : Pencil, glass and water
1. Put a pencil into a glass filled with water
2. Explain the observations from the side of the glass
Station 2 : magnifying glass and newspaper.
1. Put a magnifying glass on a newspaper.
2. Pupils explain the observation when they lift the magnifying glass at a height of 3 cm from the newspaper.
Station 3 : jar of water, cube.
1. Pupils observe the size of a Rubik’s cube placed in a jar of water.
2. Pupils compare it with the size of he Rubik’s cube placed outside the jar.
Station 4 : Opaque bowl, coin, jar of water.
1. Pupils put a coin into an opaque bowl. Then, they change the position of the bowl and eye so that the coin cannot be
seen when they look from the side of the bowl.
2. Pupils maintain the direction of sight and explain the observations when another pupils pours some water into the
bowl
3. Observations will be recorded in the experiment observation table.

TEACHING ACTIVITIES : : Activity 1 1. Pupils were divided into 5 groups to conduct the investigation. Each group will be given a mirror, flip
chart paper, adhesive tape, and basin. (Outdoor activities TB page 103)
2. In groups, pupils tape a flip chart paper onto a wall outside the classroom.
3. After that, they place a basin filled with water under the sunlight.
4. Then, pupils put a mirror into the basin of water.
5. They adjust the bottom part of the mirror which is under the water surface towards the sun until rainbow is formed on the
flip chart paper.
6. The pupils will coloured the rainbow that appear on the flip chart paper with the coloured pencil.
7. Pupils will restore all used equipment.
: Activity 2 1. Pupils sitting in the same group and will be given a flip chart paper and marker pen.
2. The leader of each group selects any device such as periscope, a pair of binocular, a hand lens or a mirror.
3. Each group discusses how the properties of light are applied by the device based on its use.
4. Each group need to present the discussion in the form of a mind map based on the creativity of the group
members.
5. Pupils display the group work in class. Pupils can view the work of other groups. (Gallery Walk)
