Reflection journal

What I learned from this capstone project:


So, first of all, I don’t have so much confidence to finish this
project, but because of my self-thinking and I was asked my
parents to buy a home server then they don’t think it is helpful for
my family, that’s why I make this choice. After I learned it, it
makes me have more and more confidence, so it is one of the
essential things to let me knew no matter how the problem is, if I
have already made this choice, follow my heart and do it because
there is already no way to back, that’s just like our life, we need to
look forward and do our best, that won’t cause the regret. And if
for the skill that I learned, I think it still is the primary
programming, and it also brings me to a new world called Linux. I
can see in the system it has an express edition of Minecraft.
Maybe I will use it to build a Minecraft server to play with my
friends in the future.

What is personal server relevant to different people:


My project is to give myself a place to save my pictures and make
my phone or computer have more space to do other things. The
second one is using it to save some movie, and that can make me
no matter where I’m in my home, I just need to connect on Wi-Fi, I
can watch the film on the server quickly. For the schools teacher
that will be helpful, when teacher is saving the files in their device
but there is no enough space to save they can use the server to
save these big and old files. There are many youtubers in the
internet there and they need save their video resources, but if
they upgrade their computer’s that will be expensive, so most of
youtuber’s studio have a server, but it will be much bigger and
heavier.

The connection from project with personal core competencies:


A home server is not a creative thing, but it is a trying in the area,
the new system, new environment of all things, and trying to find
the way to make them more accessible and cheaper to make
everyone have their server. The other thing is that the technology
develops so fast, and some of the internet courses have already
not worked. The official website also doesn’t support the service,
so I find this out. I pe my work can help some people are doing
this project like me.

This capstone project impact:


This project is called the home server, so it is worked for people in
one home. There will have many personal things of the family
member, so it can be set everyone has their account, and they
also have a folder can be shared to everyone, which people can
see the things in every place in their house and that won’t occupy
own device’s space.

The place I most proud of:

The hardest place of this project:


I think it is from 0 to 1, no matter how we do something, the
hardest is to make it come true and most of out thinking they are
just thinking, it will cause many problems to stop it, but if we can
overcome it, that means we already finish it for a half.
So the biggest problem is at the time, I was the second time install
the OpenMedia Vault, and it keeps showing the owner not match.
I searched for a lot of solution on the internet, it still doesn’t work,
and in the end, I saw it said that I could use the other order to skip
the IP address check, and after that, the problem is passed, it
takes me more than 2 hours.

The things I want to change:


Because the computer is the things grows very fast with the
technology, people always need to update it. If people update the
hard drive at some time, it will be easy to lose the pictures, and
that is not just the old pictures. It also is a warm memory in
people’s life. But if we can have something is specifically use to
save it, like people consistently save the somethings have similar
things in one folder, that will make less chance to lose it, I hoper
everyone can save their good, happy and warm memory forever,
this is what I want to change and let everyone know don’t forget
someone or something is worth to memories.

What I want to talk with next year student:


The one thing for everyone will do the capstone, take care of
detail and make a choice carefully, choose the one you can finish,
and you can do.

The most helpful things for me:


In my resource, the one most helped me is the bbs from Hanging
An. His writing has the most specific step and explains. Most of my
things are based on his teaching. When I met a problem, I
responded to him, and he gave me the answer. Everyone knows
it’s hard to get a reaction from a strange, but he did that.

The things I want to change:


I’m delighted with my project even it is not perfect, but who else
can do things to the best in the first time, I’m happy to see my
production, but I also will make it better as I can in the future.
