A-EXERCISE SHEET 1
SINGLE PHASE RECTIFIER CIRCUITS
(Submission on 5th April 2021 for hard copy)

Q. 1 A load impedance Z= 10+j 5.7735 ohms is connected to a single phase


230 V 50 Hz ac source via a diode. (a) Write the expression for the load
current; (b) draw the output voltage & current wave forms; (c) find the
mean output voltage; (d) find the mean output current.

Q. 2 A load impedance Z= 10+j 17.32 ohms is connected to a single phase


250 V 50 Hz ac source via a thyristor. For a firing angle delay of 30
degrees, (a) write the expression for the load current; (b) draw the output
voltage & current wave forms ;(c) find the mean output voltage; (d) find
the mean output current; (e) find the reverse voltage time of the thyristor.

Q. 3 A load impedance Z= 10+j 17.32 ohms is connected to a single phase


200 V 50 Hz ac source via a thyristor. For a firing angle delay of 60
degrees, (a) write the expression for the load current; (b) draw the output
voltage & current wave forms; (c) find the mean output voltage; (d) find
the mean output current.

Q. 4 A load impedance Z= 10+j 10 ohms is connected to a single phase


240 V 50 Hz ac source via a thyristor & a freewheeling diode across the
load. For a firing angle delay of 30 degrees, (a) write the expression for
the load current; (b) draw the output voltage & current wave forms; (c)
find the mean output voltage; (d) find the instantaneous value of output
current at the end of the first positive half cycle.

Q. 5 for the circuit in Q. 4 find the instantaneous value of the output


current at the end of the first cycle.

SINGLE PHASE CENTRE TAPPED RECTIFIER CIRCUITS

Q. 1A single phase full wave centre – tapped uncontrolled rectifier is


connected to a 230 V, 50 Hz ac supply through 1:1.5 turns ratio
transformer whose total leakage inductance referred to secondary side is
0.002 H. The rectifier is supplying a current of 20 A to a highly inductive
load. Find (a) The mean output voltage; (b) Angle of overlap; (c) Mean &
R.M.S. diode current; (d) R.M.S. secondary & primary currents; (e)
Draw all the relevant waveforms.
