This document appears to be a student assignment on designing for errors in human-computer interaction. The objectives are for students to understand the significance of designing for errors and how it affects usability. The background provides context on human capabilities and limitations and designing for errors. For the procedure, students are asked to select a system where they encounter slips and mistakes, describe the system and errors, and propose changes to the system to avoid these errors. The student chose a mail application, described committing errors by accidentally deleting emails instead of replying due to similarly placed buttons, and proposed separating the buttons or adding a confirmation dialog before deletion.

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the experiment students must be able to:

Cognitive

a.) understand what is the significance of designing for errors.

Psychomotor:

a.) determine how designing for errors affect the overall performance of usability

Affective

a.) appreciate how error designing can improve usability

II. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

In order to accomplish this task, the student must have a clear understanding of the following topics:

● Human capabilities and limitations

● Designing for Errors

III. PROCEDURES

Select any application or system where you encounter slips and mistakes. Describe the system and how
the slips and mistakes are committed. Then make a proposal on the system to avoid these slips and
mistakes.

Criteria Descriptions Points

Choose of System Uniqueness of chosen system 20%

System Description System should be properly described, what it 30%

does and what module where you encounter
errors

Explanation Clarity of the argument in relation to the 30%

errors discussed

Presentation Delivery of the whole document 20%

1. What is the system/application is all about? Describe it.

Answer: It is a Mail application on the iPad. Mail application is probably one of

the first thing you'll want to set up on your device or in your iPad. You can use it
to view and send emails, reply to messages, and managing your inbox from in
emails. All the things you're used to do with your email account from a mail
application.

2. When do you commit mistakes/errors? Why? Cite a situation or scenario.

Answer: The designer of this Mail application on iPad made a mistake for the
icons or buttons which is the Delete and Reply buttons are right next to each
other. If the user is not on right conditions like for example, he/she is sleepy or
drunk, he/she might delete the email instead of responding on the email.

3. Proposal changes on the system/application for you to avoid these errors.

Answer: If I'm going to changes it to avoid their errors, I will separate the Delete
and Reply buttons or maybe put "confirmation dialog" feature so that the user will
notice. For example, in every time the user presses the delete button the
confirmation dialog box will prompt to ask and the user will confirm it
