PRAGAMAN 5.

SWAYAM THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP CLUB

INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, NIRMA UNIVERSITY

The session began with a brief introduction by Mr. Tenzin Thargay about his entrepreneurial journey.
He gave us insights into how entrepreneurship is not just quick and easy money-making but a
challenging journey. One has to look forward to a problem that needs a solution rather than focusing on
the results.

To begin with, a core team of diversely competent members needs to be in place. Before diving into
any industry, it's better to look at the financial statements of large listed companies within it. It helps us
analyze how a mature company would work in that ecosystem.

The contemporary environment is seeing pivot centric where the focus is on dealing with the covid
situation. Industries like travel and hospitality were hard-hit. However, health-tech and ed-tech
industries fared well due to a significant tech component inherent in them. The pandemic has allowed
entrepreneurs to bring in technology to create a disruptive impact. During covid, while the large
businesses are struggling to survive because of their huge investments in fixed assets, the start-ups are
bringing in disruption through technology. For example, start-ups like Swiggy and Zomato thrived by
bringing in the idea of a cloud kitchen. Similarly, teleconsultation is a significant pivot happening in
the healthcare industry. The idea is to identify the pain points within an industry and providing a solution
for the same using technology, domain expertise, etc.

We learned about CollegeDekho's contribution to the ed-tech start-up industry and its growth strategy
in Covid times. The counselling process became virtual that allowed people to operate from remote
areas. Fintech journey got added to the business. It allowed students to apply for a zero percent loan.
The company’s agility and ability to adapt allowed it to survive and further grow in times of crisis.

Later the session continued with a series of questions from the students that brought about some more
insights on entrepreneurship.
Some of the learnings from the session are as follows:
• Entrepreneurship is a journey where thought and action become one. One has to focus on the
immediate work at hand rather than the results. The actual outcome is not in our control so, it's
better to practice mindfulness and direct our energy towards the present.
• Companies should create key performance indicators. It allows each employee to realize, how
their contribution will help the company achieve its goals. It gives each individual a target and
motivation to achieve the same.
• Even an organization with the most hardworking, cost-effective, and task-centred human
resources may not be a success. An organization needs a sense of value system and
consciousness that drives its people to move toward a collective goal.
• The strategy should get divided into small achievable tasks. Otherwise, the focus from the
situation at hand shifts, and strategy gets reduced to a theory.

The session ended with a brief summary of the key learnings and vote of thanks.
