4.10) A four cylinder petrol engine has output of 5.2 kW at 200 rpm.

During the Morse

test being performed each cylinder is cut one by one. The brake load readings are 35.47
kg, 36.08kg, 34.25 kg and 34.66 kg when one by one all cylinders are cut and the engine
is brought back to original running speed. The brake drum radius may be taken as 50
cm. The specific fuel consumption at this speed is 364 gm/kW hr. The calorific value of
fuel may be taken as 42MJ/kg. Determine:
a) the mechanical efficiency,
b) brake thermal efficiency, and
c) indicated thermal efficiency of engine.
