Q1. Solution

Given Mean μ= $ 951

Standard deviation σ = $ 96.

a) P (x ≥ 1000) = 1000 - 951 / 96 = P (z ≥ 0.51) = 0.5 - 0.1950

P (x ≥ 1000) = 0.305

b) P (900 ≤ x ≤ 1100) = (900 - 951 / 96) + (1100 - 951 / 96)

P ( -0.53 ≤ z ≤ 0.43) = 0.2019 + 0.4394

P (900 ≤ x ≤ 1100) = 0.6413

c) P (825 ≤ x ≤ 925) = (825 - 951 / 96) - (925 - 951 / 96)

P (-1.31 ≤ z ≤ -0.24) = 0.4049 - 0.1064

P (825 ≤ x ≤ 925) = 0.2985

d) P (x ≤ 700) = 700 - 951/ 96 = P (z ≤ -2.61) = 0.5 - 0.4955

P (x ≤ 700) = 0.0045

Q2. Solution

Given Mean μ=$50,542.

Standard deviation σ =$4,246.

a) P ( x ≥ 60,000 ) = 60000 – 50542 / 4246 = P ( z ≥ 2.23 ) = 0.5 - 0.4871

P ( x ≥ 60,000) = 0.0129

b) P ( x ≤ 45,000 ) = 45000 - 50542 / 4246 = P ( z ≤ -1.31 ) = 0.5 - 0.4049

P ( x ≤ 45,000 ) = 0.0951

c) P ( x ≥ 40,000 ) = 40000 - 50542 / 4246 = P ( z ≥ - 2.48 ) = 0.5 + 0.4934

P ( x ≥ 40,000 ) = 0.9934

d) P ( 44000 ≤ x ≤ 52000 ) = (44000- 50542 / 4246) + ( 52000 - 50542 / 4246)

P ( -1.54 ≤ z ≤ 0.34) = 0.4382 + 0.1331

P (44000 ≤ x ≤ 52000) = 0.5713
Q3. Solution

a) Population proportion for response to crisis p = 0.73

x = 810
number of items in the sample n = 1100
p̂ = 810 / 1100 = 0.7363

P (x ≥ 810) = 0.7363 – 0.73 / (√0.73 * o.27 / 1100) = P (z ≥ 0.47) = 0.5 – 0.1808

P (x ≥ 810) = 0.3192

b) Population proportion for quality of product p = 0.96

x = 1030
number of items in the sample n = 1100
p̂ = 1030 / 1100 = 0.9363

P (x ≤ 1030) = 0.9363 – 0.96 / (√0.96 * 0.04 / 1100) = P (z ≤ -4.011) = 0.5 – 0.49997

P (x ≤ 1030) = 0.00003

c) Population proportion for handling complaints p = 0.85

number of items in the sample n = 1100
p̂ = 0.82 & 0.84

P (0.82 ≤ p̂ ≤ 0.84) = Z2 – Z1

Z1 = 0.82 – 0.85 / (√0.85 * 0.15 / 1100) = -2.79

Z2 = 0.84 – 0.85 / (√0.85 * 0.15 / 1100) = -0.93

P (0.82 ≤ p̂ ≤ 0.84) = 0.4974 – 0.3238 = 0.1736

Q4. Solution

Mean μ = $125
Variance σ 2= $525
Standard deviation σ = $22.91
Total sample n = 32
Standard deviation σ x́ = σ / √n = 4.05

a) P (x ≥ 110) = (110 – 125) / 4.05 = P (z ≥ -3.70) = 0.5 + 0.49997

P (x ≥ 110) = 0.99997

b) P (x ≥ 135) = (135 -125) / 4.05 = P (z ≥ 2.47) = 0.5 - 0.4932

P (x ≥ 135) = 0.0068

c) P (120 ≤ x ≤ 130) = (120 - 125 / 4.05) + (130 - 125 / 4.05)

P (-1.23 ≤ z ≤ 1.23) = 0.3907 + 0.3907

P (120 ≤ x ≤ 130) = 0.7814
